      @ Alex Ball Oh man, all day. I could record with this forever I think. I'm in two minds about adding the full tuning mod. I've spent months trying to design ways to not make it look ugly, I don't think I'll have the balls to go through with it unless I find a another LinnDrum as cheap as this one was. Too scary.

      @@rjbush7955 Cheers. I should do a LinnDrum too at some point.
      Will be putting out a Drumtraks one shortly.

      I reached out to the maker of the tuning mod and asked about an external box that could house the tuning mod that could connect to the LinnDrum through the air vents so there wouldn't be any modification to the case. He said he would probably make that option available!

    Love the sound of the LinnDrum. Can't afford the hardware but I like to drop LinnDrum samples when I get bored of 808 or 909 samples.

      @RJ Bush Yes indeed. I'm a sucker for recording with the Linn sounds, it's really punchy and easily get's the 80's nostalgia going.

    One word P R I N C E. This is where the infamous snare/clap combo originated from!!!

    • @madFame
      @madFame  5 лет назад +4

      @pellis81 That's the one, Prince's 80's sound owes a lot of it's character to the Linn Electronics LM-1. The LinnDrum really develops on that design. Such a complete machine.

      I always thought it was Oberheim DX or DMX that the clap and snare was from.

    What a great machine. Seems the Linn is way more advanced than my Oberheim DXa in terms of real time changes/erases, panning and the quantize function (it may just be my Oberheim isn't functioning fully in that regard). Great sounds from the Linn too. Luckily I have a Roland as well modded with Linn samples as well as the original ones.

    When you hear a digital 8-12 bit machine from the early 80's crap all over today's "analog" like the Arturia Drumbrute, or the 24 bit TRS8, it really makes you ask ...WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! IT'S NOT THAT HARD! STOP MAKING WORSE GEAR!

    I would love if you talked about a Yamaha RX series drum machine. I love the RX-5 and it's super capable but complicated in that classic Yamaha way. It sounds fantastic but takes some diving. I'm still trying to get the hang of the sequencer.

    Hi! Thx for the nice video. As i do have one of those units i was curious about the Trimmer in the maschine. Is this one pitching the hole unit up and down? I do have already burned a few proms in different pitches but having an option of tuning the whole unit would be quit convenient some times. And yes i know forrat is selling a mod for that and others but those ones are a little to expensive for me.

    • @madFame
      @madFame  4 года назад

      HI Michael, yes the internal trimmer sets the pitch for the whole unit. It's quite useful when you need to set your overall tuning a little higher or lower. And it's great for sampling all of the sounds at various pitches.

    Hi there, thanks for the video. Love this drum machine and just got one. Mine has early firmware, which means no step recording. I was wondering whether you or anyone knew how to upgrade the firmware. I found the 3.0 online, but no instructions about upgrading firmware. Maybe I don't dare...

    Could you tell us how you processed the audio here? There’s compression and reverb I assume? It sounds so much better than anything I can get with samples, although I assume that’s mostly because it’s the real thing.

    • @madFame
      @madFame  5 лет назад +4

      Hi there, thanks for watching! I make sure the Synth Quest demos are unprocessed to give viewers an accurate idea of what these units actually sound like. So this beauty is all-natural! Most sample packs have been processed from what I've found and the dry audio is so much better in most cases.

    • @arcanefrontier
      @arcanefrontier 5 лет назад +1

      @@madFame Wow, thanks for the reply. Now I just feel even less satisfied with my samples... I have a few packs that are supposedly "raw, unprocessed" but the snares always sounds so much weaker than this unless I do a lot of further processing.

    What is that sensor you used for external trigger? Link?

    • @madFame
      @madFame  3 года назад +1

      It's just a clip-on piezo from an electronic guitar tuner. Search "clip-on piezo" and you'll find them, works the same as a drum trigger.

      ah all good. I have a few from different brands and they have different sensitivities. The one in the video is a Yamaha one from an old digital guitar tuner. Korg sell them too from their Clip-hit product.
