  • Hey guys!
    This video and recreation of Madonna 1985 hit "Into the Groove" has been a labor of love.
    After obtaining the original Multitrack master (I cannot share). I was able to dive in and recreate each sound, and arrangement using the same synths as the original song. With the exception of a MKS 80, ( BASS) TR-727 (I used samples), and an Emulator II (for the PIANO solo).
    It took over a week to map out, arrange, record, and mix. It was a ton of fun learning how the song was made. It was recorded with a UAD Apollo 16 , and Luna.
    I hope you enjoy ! Comment please!
    -Jon

    I also did a cover of this with a covers band (well, duo\trio) back in the 80s. I used a Roland 626 and 606 for drums and percussion and MC202 and Yamaha FB01 for bass, Ensoniq Mirage for piano and claps and Korg PolySix for synths. We'd make backing cassette tapes that had drums, bass (when there was no bass player) and some synth lines. I'd play lead lines on the PolySix and piano and samples on the Mirage, and there was a guitarist\vocalist and sometimes a bass player. I'd make the recordings and cut the tape to the song length, then record it again on the b-side so we didn't have to worry about rewinding. Fun days, and quite a good earner, but not as rewarding as playing original material.

    You've done a very good job here mate, fair play! I'm having a crack at it myself from the multitracks but can't work out what that tom that sits low behind the snare was made with. Also the hi-hats are a bit of a mystery. I've tried a Linn LM2 and a 707 but cannot get it to sound right at all, any ideas? Fairly certain its not the DMX. Never realised the bassline was layered with a DX7, thought it was just the super Jupiter. As you say it's great fun picking these classics apart. Keep up the good work!

      I suggest watching the end of the video and every sound is broken down. Hats are Linndrum, bongos , congas and other percussion is 707. Snare is a blend of DMX, gated Non Lin DMX Snare, and a backwards DMX Snare. This backwards snare is available for purchase fro=m Electrongate for your DMX. There is no tom layered under the snare

    Very close, the closest recreation I've heard, but it still sounds too polished, especially with the You Can Dance extras thrown in. The demo version used in Desperately Seeking Susan was just not this crisp and clean; it was raw, edgy, just a sound that is not heard in any of the released versions or even the demo versions found on You Tube. On my playlist is the version from the movie, it's shorter, but it's the only one that has that authentic sound.

      I'm so used to hearing the piano solo that (I think) was first on the 'You Can Dance' remix LP (1987) and the re-edit on the Immaculate Collection CD that I was kind of shocked when I dug out the single and found it wasn't on the 1985 vinyl. The original single (as used in the movie) sold about 800,000 copies in the UK without the piano or the 727 agogos. The weirdest 'Into The Groove' fact, however, is that in America it was a B-side, but in Britain and Europe, we all went completely mental for Madonna in August '85 ("Holiday" went back up the charts to number 2 at the same time this was top of the charts).

    • @mm_xx8827
      @mm_xx8827 Месяц назад

      @@AutPen38 Yes, that piano was added to the You Can Dance remixes. Personally, not a fan of it. Into The Groove was a B-side to Angel here in the US, but eventually was released as a single after it was realized it was not at all "B-side" material. I never understand why they do different things in different countries, the UK got it added to later pressings of Like A Virgin, in the US, no.

      It is in fact 4 sounds technically. However it is comprised of 3 tracks. The punchy sound is a DMX snare, DMX Clap, and another track which is a combination of the two (snare and clap), ran into the AMS RMX 16 NON LIN, then gated, and high pass filtered. Then the three tracks are blended to form one sound.

      @@javd007 I always wondered how they made clap/snares so ear-splitting in the '80s, so that info has illuminated it for me. It's crazy how the clap/snare/gated verb at the end of the 4-bar drum pattern (the "clap-clap-clap") is actually a hook in its own right, when on paper it's a bog standard drum pattern. It's kind of mindblowing that I could recognise this song (and the peerless 'Billie Jean') from the drums alone, when they feature very "normal" patterns. '80s snares and claps are the best!

    • @javd007
      @javd007  11 месяцев назад +3

      I’m sorry you feel this video was clickbait. The bassline is two sounds , I have a DX7 which is half of it. The Jupiter X does a pretty good job emulating the MKS 80 for the other half. I don’t have an emulator II but the emulator only plays for a few bars during the piano solo. So, In fact , the quijada does play throughout the entire track , however it is very low in the mix. I have the multitrack and it’s all the way to the end , I made sure every sound lines up with the original song . There are quite a few versions of the song , I based it off the multitrack that I have. Which is not a remix. My multitrack is missing the vocal chops on the emulator. It’s quite bare . So I don’t believe it’s a remix.
