    I will tell you THE secret... It’s not just about sampling the sounds and playing them back in a soft synth. It is about the split millisecond timing of how all the attacks of the samples line up with each other when they are quantized. That’s what really made this machine what it is. The way the kick and snare and hit hat line up when quantized. This is a BIG deal. If Behringer is going to clone it, they had better understand this and match it up with a scope or it won’t really have the magic feel of a LinnDrum.

      You Spin me Round (like a record) used the LM-1, as the cowbell was tuned up. Other songs which used the LM-1 are Don't You Want Me, Relax, When Doves Cry to name a few.

      @@akira808state4 Actually spin me round uses a Linn 9000, snare is from the 9000. And the rest.

    Some big names got so used to the sequencer that they actually modified the unit to control sampler machines, but this is another story...

    that length feature is something i never knew about, that would come in handy on the (Linn designed) MPC60, editing length quickly and easily is its weakest point as a (drum) sampler. Also didn't know that the accents for certain sounds were provided via the buttons themselves, and not programmed by the user. I like that and I might incorporate that same idea into some of my Linn style MPC programs

    TR808, and the linndrum = the iconic asskicking pair of the 1980s. :D nearly every song that had electronic drums in the 80s had one of those two machines. Or, a Simmons drum set. :)

    Forgive my dumdum question, but what's the appeal of these older, expensive machines anymore if you can sample them or source the sound for free online nowadays?

    • @dco1019
      @dco1019 3 года назад +5

      Its not a dumdum question...though a machine like this appeals to you or it does not. Maybe its nostalgia, hands on functionality...working with hardware.
      The extra extra authenticity of the sounds.. it stays valuable also for the record after you purchased it.
      I would say though that if you just as cool with having a vst or you wonder why sampling the sounds isn't the same thing then such a machine probably doesnt appeal to you...and you wont get a satisfying answer.
      I wouldn't break the bank for it either...but behringer is doing a cheap clone of it with sampling capabilty...I might go for that.

      most people DO sample the source if they like the sound, the appeal is pretty much just owning the actual synth. You can hear him say "for its time", he knows the sounds aren't highest quality so its not exactly practical but its cool to be able to say you own this period piece

    The Linn Drum can sound really nice with a chain of Pre amp, EQ , compressor, tape, compressor, limiter. Something like that.
