J None used to be a full member: he left to sing for the navy but comes back on leave and does performances with them when he can. He also has his own channel and records his own stuff there. Geoff, the bass, also has a personal channel and does amazing covers. Layne, the beatbox, is an owner of PattyCake Studio, and they do a lot of their performances at PattyCake. PattyCake has it's own line of performances - mostly humorous take-offs on Disney stuff. (And they also do studio work for other performers). And with all of that work going on - both VoicePlay and Geoff post a full-length performance almost every month. They are hard working, talented professionals.
Thanks for your reaction to Voice Play! I enjoyed your reaction and appreciation for Voice Play so much that I subscribed to your channel hoping to see more Voice Play and solo Geoff Castellucci. Yes they are different than other acapella groups as they are more theatrical and often referred to as the theater kids of acapella music. They are a group from Orlando Florida and all of their members and frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Their featured guest here, J. None was a full time member of the group but left in 2021 to join the Navy. He is active duty but still comes back frequently to sing with them when he is on military leave. He has not been permanently replaced in the group so you will see different very talented featured artists that they have been friends and worked with since high school or college that are like extended family and you will love them all. J. None has an incredible vocal range and can beatbox and rap as well showcased more on his solo channel. For more of J. None's different skills and talent, check out Voice Play's "Valhalla Calling" and "Lion Sleeps Tonight" (trust me). Voice Play just recently released "Stand By Me" with a different featured guest, Mykal Kilgore (you saw him in "Be Prepared"), that was a group member back when they were in high school but left the group to pursue a Broadway career and has been very successful- you will be blown away by this one as well!
VoicePlay is my favorite group what with the variety they have, the character they possess and the creativity they draw on. Dropping a few of my favorites: Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Wicked (Broadway), Creep (RadioHead), In the Hall of the Mountain King, Classical Chaos, Sleeping in the Cold Below, Little Mermaid, We Don't Talk About Bruno.
Fun fact! They don't generally do dance choreography because it takes them a LOT of time and effort to produce just one music video with dance choreo in it! So they don't do them very often! (Dance isn't their forte, lol)

@@sean1849Pentatonix sold out to a label. The label tells them what to do and how to do it. They get big concerts because the label arranges them. They are corporate music. VoicePlay is completely independent. They turn down offers from labels on the regular. They’ve also turned down offers as solo artists. They do everything from arrangements to video editing on their own. The final vocal mix, fancy make up, and the occasional extra camera man are all they hire out. Also: VoicePlay hasn’t toured since the pandemic hit. They don’t NEED to. They are making a living entirely off of social media. Which Pentatonix isn’t doing. They have guests partially for the fun of it - gives them more variety in what they can do when their 5th is a high tenor one week, a baritone the next, and a woman after that. They’ll likely pick up a perm fifth eventually, but they’re in no hurry because they don’t need to be. That’s the biggest difference between them and everyone else. They’re making choices based on what they want. Not what they are told, not because they have to go a certain way. If you like Pentatonix, that’s fine. They have great vocals and all. But don’t confuse a label buying advertising with them actually being better.
Lol "Sold out" The only people who complain about an artist or group selling out are the artists or group who are not on top. It's the reason they give for not being as successful as the other artist or Groups in their genre. Not everyone deserves a trophy it's something that you earn and 4th place sounds pretty good but when there are only 4 groups in the mix it's last place. I never once said you shouldn't listen to them or that they don't sound good even though I think they are mediocre and pedantic.
@ Now see, mediocre and pedantic is exactly how I’d describe Pentatonix. They don’t seem to have much, if any, fun or joy in what they do. I get a “just another day in the office” vibe much of the time. Speaking of trophies…they have two Grammy nominations this year. Haven’t heard how many Pentatonix has?
