Chiquitita is a Spanish term of endearment for a woman meaning "little one.'
The narrator is an older woman talking to a younger woman and consoling her after a relationship has broken up. She is offering a shoulder to cry on and saying they will have good times again in the future. It's a message of comfort and encouragement for a heartbroken friend speaking of hope for better days to come ❤.

"Chiquita" and "chiquitita" both mean "little girl" in Spanish, but "chiquitita" is a more diminutive form, signifying a slightly smaller or more endearing "little girl" due to the added "ita" suffix; essentially, "chiquita" is just "little girl" while "chiquitita" is closer to "tiny little girl."

This song is a perfect example of the complexity of ABBA's music, particularly with how they use counter-melodies so much, especially here in the chorus. It makes the music sound of full and robust. Benny and Bjorn were genius songwriters.

One of my favorite ABBA songs. The most fun is Does Your Mama Know. The beat, the lyrics. The maturity of the grown man putting a teenage girl down gently.
But ... the way it was adapted for the movie Mama Mia is the bomb. Sung by an older woman turning down a young man, and all of his friends end up bagging on him.
It's cheeky in the best, best, best way.

glad to see you with eaction to ABBA songs
several things to say about "Chiquitita" (1979)
Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like almost all ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha & Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence
It allows us to check how excellent singers the blonde Agnetha & the brunette Frida are and what harmonies of excellence they achieve. It stands out especially when they stretch the monosyllables with great quality and beauty
"Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the UNICEF Concert (January 9, 1979, just 46 years ago!) and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following year ABBA recorded a full album with their best songs entirely in Spanish
("Chiquitita" in Spanish is the biggest ABBA hit in My country Argentina)
Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
These official video was filmed in Swizterland 1979 (ABBA goes for a TV Special)
It's the only promotional video that ABBA made without your country Sweden
I hope to see you soon in another ABBA song
    my next suggestion is to
"Fernando" (1976) or Super Trouper (1980)
with the brunete singer Frida in lead voice
so you could listen and see the other voices in ABBA
(the guitarist Björn also is lead voice in some ABBA songs)
GOD bless you and stay safe
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷

ABBA (pronounced with short 'a' not long 'a') won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, then became popular all around the world by releasing hit after hit.
In the late 80s and early 90s, many radio stations refused to play their music then two Australian movies were released "The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and "Muriel's Wedding". Both were HUGE successes and both had a strong focus on ABBA's music. This led to an ABBA revival. Priscilla became a huge stage musical that still is staged. The two male singers in the band (Benny and Bjorn) wrote a new stage musical called "Mamma Mia" which combined the lyrics of many of ABBA's songs into a new musical that is still popular.

Happy New Year to you from France 🇫🇷 Even if they are said to be timeless, intergenerational, universal, for me, they have above all musical diversity that I don't know in other artists, bands. When they do disco, ispanic, rock, reggae, pop... "French Song", always, it seems to me, with integrity, talent and accuracy. I found a good description-
"Chica = Girl, but in some contexts it could also mean small when the noun is gendered female. As an example:
    - Ella es una chica bonita = She is a pretty girl
    - La caja chica = The small box
Chiquita = Tiny, small, hen the noun is female, the noun is male the counterpart would be chiquito
Chiquitita = Tinier, smaller than chiquita
Also there is chiquititita that's like... really tiny."

7:29 in Argentina we say both. Chiquitita is just "chiquita" taken a step further hehe. One can call a girl "una Chica" which technically ALSO means small (big v small = grande v chico, just using an 'a' ending as it's female)...then there's chiquita and further more you have chiquitita (and we say the same with boys. For both, at least in Argentina, the latter is used to emphasise the small size even more....eg "Ay! Pero ese bebe es re chiquitito!!!" [Note: in Argentine slang re = muy...just 'extra'])

as I understand it, Chica is a small girl (but can also be used as an adjective to mean small for other nouns), Chiquita is a smaller girl, Chiquitita is a very small girl. But I also think that some dialects only use Chiquita while other dialects only use Chiquitita.

Every Breath You Take is a total classic and completely"sampled" by Diddy. Don't Stand So Close to me is my favorite Police song.

Chiquitita is a dialect thing in some places. In other places it means very small ... chiquita - small, chiquitita - very small, chiquititita - tiny. It is also a girl's name, but from what I understand, it isn't too common. It is also a term of endearment, like honey ... I always heard it as a song from mother to daughter ....

    Chica is a girl.
    Chiquita is a tiny/smaller girl.
Chiquitita is a tinier/smaller girl than Chiquita.

They sang in more than English. They had a great album in Spanish which is the same as the English songs translated. Damme Damme amor a ces noche (sp?). At one point ABBA was the most profitable enterprise in Sweden

Their video information: Bjorn, the pianist, wrote the songs. He was their business minded one. Since they recorded in Sweden, he decided to go International by recording music videos, in the 1970's, BEFORE MTV. these were sent worldwide and played in America. I only heard them on the radio.
