Chiquitita is a Spanish term of endearment for a woman meaning "little one.' The narrator is an older woman talking to a younger woman and consoling her after a relationship has broken up. She is offering a shoulder to cry on and saying they will have good times again in the future. It's a message of comfort and encouragement for a heartbroken friend speaking of hope for better days to come ❤.
------> 9 January 1979 ABBA performed "Chiquitita" live at the UN General Assembly in NYC ------> They recorded a Spanish version in 1980, which spent 32 weeks at nº1 on the charts in México
"Chiquita" and "chiquitita" both mean "little girl" in Spanish, but "chiquitita" is a more diminutive form, signifying a slightly smaller or more endearing "little girl" due to the added "ita" suffix; essentially, "chiquita" is just "little girl" while "chiquitita" is closer to "tiny little girl."
This song is a perfect example of the complexity of ABBA's music, particularly with how they use counter-melodies so much, especially here in the chorus. It makes the music sound of full and robust. Benny and Bjorn were genius songwriters.
Exactly. This is complex music, especially with the classical piano accompaniment and counter-melodies in the chorus that make the sound so full and lush.
beautiful song from abba, the song was written for Unicef's Year of the Child, and the band was clear about using the royalties for a specific purpose.
'You were always sure of yourself now i see you've broken a feather i hope we can patch it up together".... So encouraging and disarmingly warming and caring. What's not to love?We were lucky back then.ABBA was such a consolation.
There is no better song for me that represents the harmonies, the Melodies, the beauty and originality of ABBA, then CHIQUITITA! It is as you said FIRE!
❤❤ I have always loved ABBA. In my opinion ABBA and Simon & Garfunkle had the best harmonic voices ever! Growing up during those times of music were the best.
let's put it this way, your older daughter would be your "chiquita" and your baby would be your "chiquitita" ... it also means a very tiny thing, like: that "my office is chiquitita" listen to this song from a parents' pespective and I think you'll find the lyrics a little bit more profound than you think.
Chico is a fond name for a boy, chica for a girl. Chiquito/chiquita is small boy/ girl. Chiquitita is a tiny, little girl. In Spanish - especially outside Castillian Spanish - a diminutive is used as a sign of affection.

Their Spanish version to this classic was no1 in Mexico for 32 weeks. In Latin America this is still an anthem kinda passing from Gen to Gen.A phenomenal record seller there.
Back when singers could actually sing. No autotune or pitch modulation software. I love this song, when I was a kid my parents used to play this all the time in the 70's and 80's.
Love ABBA and all the songs in their catalog. I have enjoyed them all my life and the variety of their tunes. Great reaction as always. Love your channel. OBTW, The word Chiquita is a term of endearment for a woman meaning "little one".
ABBA is about as Swedish as you can get. They were discovered by the world when they represented Sweden in the 1974 Eurovision song contest with their song "Waterloo" and won. In 2005 they were even chosen as the best song in the entire 50 year history of Eurovision.
I too had only heard in Spanish chiquita, when this song came out, my mother explained it was an added form of endearment to a little girl. New word I guess. I'm of Mexican descent btw.

There's Mama Mia, Waterloo, Money Money Money, The Winner takes it All, Voulez Vou, SOS, Super Trouper, I have a Dream, Does your mother Know, etc. Still want to see see you do Does your mother Know.
Yes. Benny, Bjorn, and Agnetha are Swedish, and Anni-Frid is Norwegian. The Swedes have sort of adopted her as their own, so a lot of people believe her to be Swedish.
One of my favorite ABBA songs. The most fun is Does Your Mama Know. The beat, the lyrics. The maturity of the grown man putting a teenage girl down gently. But ... the way it was adapted for the movie Mama Mia is the bomb. Sung by an older woman turning down a young man, and all of his friends end up bagging on him. It's cheeky in the best, best, best way.
The day before you came is another ABBA song, nearer the end of the band, it shows how varied thier style is and tones of songs changed throughout their career

ABBA (pronounced with short 'a' not long 'a') won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, then became popular all around the world by releasing hit after hit. In the late 80s and early 90s, many radio stations refused to play their music then two Australian movies were released "The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and "Muriel's Wedding". Both were HUGE successes and both had a strong focus on ABBA's music. This led to an ABBA revival. Priscilla became a huge stage musical that still is staged. The two male singers in the band (Benny and Bjorn) wrote a new stage musical called "Mamma Mia" which combined the lyrics of many of ABBA's songs into a new musical that is still popular.
Abba is Swedish. They are the very first winners of the singing competition show Eurovision in 1974. The show was all over Europe. Will Ferrell made a move about the Abba win called Eurovision.

They sang in more than English. They had a great album in Spanish which is the same as the English songs translated. Damme Damme amor a ces noche (sp?). At one point ABBA was the most profitable enterprise in Sweden
Their video information: Bjorn, the pianist, wrote the songs. He was their business minded one. Since they recorded in Sweden, he decided to go International by recording music videos, in the 1970's, BEFORE MTV. these were sent worldwide and played in America. I only heard them on the radio.

I have yet to hear a song by ABBA that I didn't love. My favorite though has always been "Fernando" I hope you get to react to it someday.
Such a talented group!
Love ABBA so much.
Chiquitita is the diminutive word for chiquita meaning smaller than small
They sang in more than English. They had a great album in Spanish which is the same as the English songs translated. Damme Damme amor a ces noche (sp?). At one point ABBA was the most profitable enterprise in Sweden
Said as "chick a ti ta" LOVED them when I was growing up. Still love their music to this day!!
Their video information: Bjorn, the pianist, wrote the songs. He was their business minded one. Since they recorded in Sweden, he decided to go International by recording music videos, in the 1970's, BEFORE MTV. these were sent worldwide and played in America. I only heard them on the radio.
My fave song!! Woohoo!!❤❤
From what I remember they didn't speak English and learned their songs phonetically in the beginning! Very impressive!
