Geoff is an absolute gift, and it's a shame that more people don't know about him. He not only sang this, but he also did the vocal and musical arrangement, and shot and edited the video (with the help of his production manager and wife, Kathy). He's autlso the bass singer for the a cappella group, VoicePlay (who are an entire rabbithole unto themselves, where he's joined by a bunch of other guys who are also vocal monsters), where he also provides arrangements and video work along with the beatboxer, Layne Stein. But Geoff alone is a force; he can cover just about anything and absolutely transform it while still paying homage to the original work. And as you've noticed, there isn't really anything outside of his range although he definitely favors the lower end. But I think every solo song he performs gives us at least a short trip into his upper register. This particular song is a great one for really highlighting his different ranges; I'm pretty sure the only thing he left out of this cover are subharmonic notes, which drop his lower end by a full octave. Wait until you hear him lay one of those on you!
As to where to go next in his catalog- follow your bliss. The man doesn't put out bad music, so anything you choose will be good, if not spectacular.

Very few people alive can "go that low"...and the ones that do rarely (never?) have the beautiful tone that Geoff has in that range. But as much as I get thrilled by the Geoffquakes, I simply adore his upper range! He has such a sweet tone. This is why he says he feels he's really a baritone who can sing a lot of really deep bass notes. Honestly, he has a spectacular tone in every register. He has a very well-trained voice but so much beautiful creativity. He also does all the instrumental accompaniment himself on his solo work. He's really a wonderful pianist, nd a GENIUS arranger!

It's always fun to watch someone who's never heard (or heard OF) Geoff react to one of his videos! The level of surprise and astonishment just keeps growing and growing throughout the song!
This is the 2nd of 3 videos where Geoff dresses up as some of the dwarves from The Hobbit movies, and the 3rd video (Song of Durin) includes a dwarf from The Lord of the Rings as well. The first (and still the most popular video on Geoff's solo channel) is Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, where Geoff introduced the dwarves, but in that one there's really only 1 lead, all of the other voices stay in harmony, and it's much more difficult to pick them out. In this song, Geoff let each of the dwarves have a solo to showcase their voices, and it helps make this video my favorite from his channel.
If you check the description box for the video, you'll see that Geoff not only sings all of the vocals and makes the initial audio mix, he also arranges, produces, directs, films, and edits the videos, with his wife Kathy providing essential support such as costumes, which is pretty standard for Geoff's solo work. In a video like this one, he'll have help from specialists, like makeup and hair. He often works out of Pattycake Production studios, which is owned by fellow VoicePlay member Layne Stein with former VoicePlay member Tony Wakim, and VoicePlay's current rock-tenor Eli Jacobson provides the lighting. It's often quite a family affair!
You mentioned Geoff's speaking voice - he also has a number of short story and poetry readings on his channel, so if you just want to listen to his voice, you can always pick out one of those and give it a listen!

There are singers who can sing lower than Geoff, but the quality, tone, and sweetness of his voice are unmatched anywhere.
He started doing solo work when Covid shut the world down. Voiceplay had to stop touring so they concentrated exclusively on their RUclips channel (also seen on Facebook and Instagram). Geoff and Voiceplay usually put out one major cover each month, Voiceplay also does 2 or 3 shorts/minis per month. Voiceplay's most recent is Be Prepared from the Lion King.

Since we are in October I suggest his covers of Headless Horseman and The Monster Mash. For Voiceplay try their covers The Oogie Boogie song and This is Halloween both from The Nightmare Before Christmas movie. Regardless you cannot go wrong with your choice.

The people with the largest vocal ranges on earth tend to be basses, actually. You can use a lot of techniques to get higher, but using pure chest range, you cannot fake low. There are a ton of bass singers with Geoff's vocal range, but very few who can use it as well as Geoff does. I am a bass with a larger vocal range than Geoff, can go substantially deeper than him, but would sell my soul to sing as well as he does... one of the most underrated singers on the planet, IMHO.

It’s always nice to see a Tolkien fan really appreciate this. I’ve always liked the song but it seemed odd to me to hear it in such a high voice since the dwarves are known for their deep voices. By the way, he released this on Hobbit Day , the day that the book was first released in 1937.
His cover of Misty Mountains featured the Geoff that visually resembles him most and the other three were primarily background singers. In this song it was more of a chance to show off his considerable range. In the cover of Song of Durin it’s more of an ensemble with a lot of harmonies and a fifth dwarf, Gimli. They are at the scene where Gimli is singing in front of Balin’s tomb and these four dwarves appear slowly since they were contemporaries of Balin. He based it on the interpretation by Clamavi de Profundis, but they do the entire song and it’s quite lengthy. Since you are a Tolkien fan I thought you might like to check it out if you have not done so already.
I know that they don’t celebrate Halloween in your area the way they do here in the states, but whether or not you’ve ever watched Nightmare before Christmas, you should probably check out VoicePlay’s four songs from the movie. Oogie boogie is usually recommended first because it really is very Geoff-centric, but my favorite is Kidnap the SandyClaws. But my all-time favorite is his his solo release from last year, Jack’s Lament. He not only shows off his vocal chops, but his acting ability as well. It’s my favorite song from the movie and he has truly done it justice.
I really enjoyed your reaction, especially since you are a fan of Tolkien , and have subscribed in hopes that you will cover more of Geoff’s work as well as VoicePlay’s.

Geoff (and the group in which is remains a founding member, VoicePlay) are totally independent and do almost all of the work on their monthly releases themselves. Their skill sets are impressive. The video description on each release will list all of the credits. The final sound mix is always Ed Boyer but the video editing is done by whomever in the group is in charge of that month's project; all Geoff on his solo channel. Geoff's wife, Kathy, is very involved and serves as Production Manager for both Geoff and VoicePlay. Fun Fact: Geoff not only did all of the singing for this arrangement, but he also laid down the piano track. That's right, Geoff is a pianist as well. The only thing he didn't actually perform were the drums.
If you haven't checked it out yet, you should check out Peter Hollens' Arrangement of "I See Fire." Preferably the one where it's just him and he layers himself an insane amount of times. The other version are worth a watch/listen as he has recorded this song multiple times with different guests and they all sound great, but I'm partial to the version of just him because it's mind-boggling what he does with that arrangement. Jasmine trying to copy the low note at 2:27 was just so adorable 😄! Achieving a respectable A3 or there about at 220Hz. But still about 2¾ octaves away from what I assume was a C1 from Geoff. Or to put it in perspective. A3 is just left of dead center on a full size piano. While C1 is the 3rd lowest white key on the far left. Or about 32 semitones apart 😅. But don't sweat it! You have a beautiful voice, and high voices get most of the fame anyway 😉.
PS, Connor's D2 was even better and real bass/baritone territory 👍. Opera basses are almost never required to go lower than E2. Only crux is the the projection required to fill a venue without a mic even at those lowest notes. That makes Geoff's C1-G1 notes even more impressive. Even most true low bases don't go below G#1.

VoicePlay did a lead in video for the Halloween season and it's known as Classical Chaos w/ Rachel Potter who is trying to show the guys how to cast a spell. She looksannoyed enough that maybe she's a teacher trying keep the kids in their seats. You will see that they come by their nickname of The Theatre Kids of A Capella.
