@@Sarah83_loves_bass Exactly that. Following this train of thought, I have done a little research in the past few days, and I am still trying to find a Bible verse describing any angel as "angelic" 😅
Another fan called Geoff "a master of tension and release" and I felt that was true, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Your reaction and analysis helped me understand that much better. Thank you so much for that! I'll definitely watch more of your videos in the future. I'm more of a writer and reader, so I get what you mean about the fine details and intricacies. (A single word change can alter the flow and impact of a scene, or turn a good piece of dialogue into a character-defining moment.) VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci are the reason I've begun to pay a lot more attention to music apart from / in addition to basking in the emotions their songs evoke - so I'm happy to find people like you who share their knowledge in an engaging way and clearly love the works they're reacting to. The world is full of nitpickers eager to prove how something is bad, but I'm a fangirl at heart and understanding WHY this is both kickass and utterly mesmerizing just deepens my appreciation of the skill, talent and creativity Geoff pours into his arrangements. As Terry Pratchett (GNU) put it: "It doesn't stop being magic just because you know how it works."
Please ignore the people that tell you that you shouldn't comment so much on any aspect of a music video. There are plenty of people who react to music videos and all they do is sit there and smile and nod, and at the end they say "wow that was great! The end." If they object to you breaking down the genius of a video, or criticizing where something is lacking, they can go watch one of those other reactors. I watch you, and other reactors like you, because you bring something to the table in terms of your education and mastery of music. Please don't ever stop.
"Out of the ordinary"... a perfect description of Geoff. No other can combine this sort of dragon voice with an angel voice. As always i loved your reaction. Your whole body shows what you feel 😅
I love hearing about every part of singing. Whether small tiny details or big ones. Without one you don't have the other. Most reactors talk about the bigger details. So it's refreshing to also hear about the little stuff as well. Thank you for that. I love your reaction to this. It is his best video and song yesterday. So beautiful and powerful. Personally I never cared for this song. The high tenor ranges and repeating lines was too much for my sensitive ears. Geoff lowered all of that. Even his high tenor isn't pitchy. So I can now listen to this beautiful song. Fun fact..... Geoff was going to do a different Christmas song. But his wife Kathy said no you're going to do this. He just said ok.
I REALLY enjoyed your reaction! You looked like me, here in my room, arms moving to the music.....this is a phenomenal cover. He didn't even want to do it, but the boss insisted.
And we all fall to our knees and thank Kathy for convincing him to do this song ❤❤❤ It shows again "Happy wife, happy life", in this case more like "Happy wife, happy fans" 😂🤩🙏🏼
Geoff's voice has depth, and beauty both in the lower notes and those high notes and I never tire of it. He also has the knack for the instrumentation which speaks and adds so much to line and flow. Just gorgeous. Thanks and Merry Christmas to one and all.
Stunningly AMAZING! I also couldn't resist the urge to be a conductor during this performance. So, full and epic. My entire body needed to react. How does he do this to a song I have heard so many times. Thanks for a great reaction!
"Musical witchcraft" what a perfect phrase to describe Jeff's amazing abilities. I don't how or why we are being so blessed by so many amazing voices in our time.
Thanks for this reaction to Geoff's Christmas release. So glad you are back to Geoff (and hopefully VoicePlay). . I have run out of superlatives! Your analysis definitely adds more to information that I have heard from other reactors. Thank you again! I'm not the only one since this video has been averaging 100K views per day since it released! I enjoy the way Geoff arranges music nearly as much as his vocals. Judging by his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage!
I have to admit, l am not much into traditional xmas carols, as l am not a cheery jolly kind of person, more of a cynical mean old Mr. Grinch & having worked in retail has not helped either, so carols are... difficult. But THIS? THIS l can relate to! It is the GOTH version of a carol, eerily haunting & sinister, yet drop dead gorgeous at the same time. The arrangement is stunning like a gut punch. It makes this most repetetive of all carols interesting to listen to, and where l can't stand trad versions of this l am almost addicted to this! Finally a carol l can really enjoy! The earth shattering lows from Hels basement give the melody an imho much needed foundation. Another reactor asked what kind of christmas is celebrated here, and all l can say is, it is the christmas of a country defending itself against a superior foe invading them, so in essence it is a battle anthem in my opinion. I love the subtle nod to this carols ukrainian origin through the blue/yellow color scheme in lighting & clothes, as well as the not so subtle nod of the broken bells in the cover art! I loved your reaction, showing the same passion l feel hearing this and l am here for all the little details you point out, often seeing them for the first time conciously, as l am a musically illiterate one, so thank you A LOT! Happy Holidays!
Thank you for pointing out the color scheme in this. It’s something I missed. But I had just gone out to listen to the traditional Ukrainian version so I did think of the turmoil in that country when I heard this. I thought the same way about the cover of Stand by Me. The release along with what’s going on in our country right now really hit me that we’ve got to stick together. We need to stand for each other - we cannot hope for the people in power to do so.
you do you, that's why we're here. I'm not a musician and there's a lot I don't understand, but I can hear a lot that I don't understand. You are one of a very small group of reactors that helps me bridge that, and I appreciate it. And yes, details are everything.
5:34 That is not a beat or base drop, it is a base *bomb* ! 😵💫 Paleontologists now think Rex did roar like in the movies. It was instead a deep rumble you'd feel as much as hear. I think Geoff fusing his voice to whatever instrument that is is a good approximation!
Loved this arrangement and production from Geoff. Insanely impressive is exactly the right term. If you react to Voiceplay's Christmas drop you will find something not all all like this. They did an old Louis Armstrong piece from the 50's, Zat U Santa Clause? I think you will love it, the beatboxing is from another world.
I do enjoy your reactions and love the comments you've added in appreciation of this cover. Keep up the amazing work - but be sure to take some time and enjoy the songs of this season too!
This song is simply EPIC ❤ Someone in another comment section compared it to a dragon choir singing Christmas carols 😂 And I think that's a very accurate description 🐲👍🏻 Love his arrangements 🫶🏻 I'm not much into all the Christmas stuff and songs, but this one... good lord... I'm listening to it on repeat since it dropped (literally 😂) on Friday 👍🏻 The term "musical witchcraft" you used, made me chuckle, cause I had to think of one of VoicePlay's shorts "Toss a coin to your witcher", where nearly everyone commenting wrote "That explains a lot, Geoff is a WITCHER" 😂😂😂
This is amazing, but just as amazing is the way you break down all the sneaky elements of genius behind the composition Geoff put together. Blows my mind out of the water. And I do so enjoy how expressive you are with your hands while you're listening to each stretch too. Any chance you might consider doing a react to Geoff's version of "Sound of Silence" down the line, after the holiday season? Color me very interested if you do.
Yes! All things about the nuances matter when the artist has skills! This is so fabulous; even as a person who doesn't have all of the musical knowledge, I can feel how epic this entire arrangement and video creation is: Geoff brought everything that matters into this. WOW.
Hola desde Argentina... Cómo adoro ver tus reacciones!!!.. todas las emociones "al plato"... Tan deliciosas y emocionantes... Sin palabras!.. y Geof... Que se puede decir de él... Totalmente fuera de lo "normal"?... Súper excepcional?!!.. eso y mucho más... Gracias por tanto disfrute! Un abrazo a la distancia 😊
I absolutely love how you described the section of those long tone sub bass notes along with the higher swells a heaven and earth connection. A perfect description.
To your talk about control at 2:40-I would call it “captivating.” Castellucci is a master of tension and release (and of dissonance!), his feint chords somehow fool me every time, and I love it so freakin’ much. (And I loved how you described his style too, it’s really well said.)
Thank you so much for freaking out over the technicality of the arrangement. You're the only person so far to really freak out over all the components of the song, not just the big shock notes. I appreciate very much
Yes! Thanks for your reaction and analysis! I have been listening to this on repeat as I drive in my car to and from work and all around town ever since it came out! :)
I agree with you totally! I think this is Geoff's absolute best work. Wow, such a talented man! Thank you for picking up on some background things that I may have heard but not really paid attention to!
Just love your cheerful energetic reactions. So glad you have reacted to Geoff's cover, so informative. I have only one word to say about Geoff - genius
It`s said that in every genius sticks a little bit of a madman lol. Your reaction is just as wonderfully insane as Geoff`s masterpiece is. Love it! And thank you for emphasizing all the little details. Those get neglected in so many reactions. Wish you a very merry Christmas from over here in Germany.👋🎄
Some reactors said it made them think of an Epic movie soundtrack...like a Lord of the Ring Christmas movie theme. There a magistral vibe we get that I love. Loved your reaction also.
I really enjoyed this video. I was directing the music right with you! I so enjoy all of the details you pick up on and talk about, from the big to the small details. Your commentary and your knowledge is a big part of why i watch you and your reactions when you are really into a song are also very entertaining as well.
Big things are made up of little things. Get the little ones wrong and the big parts will never seem quite right. This is the attention to detail that defines success or failure.
I've heard several people refer to it as a cinematic arrangement, ready for a grand fantasy movie. Some interesting information: Carol of the Bells is based on the Ukrainian New Year song called,"Shchedryk," written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914. The English-language lyrics were written in 1936 by Peter Wilhousky. The video was filmed at a popular and historic wedding venue, Howey Mansion, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Geoff and Kathy rented the venue from 10 AM to 3:30 PM. They filmed with 3 cameras, which now have wireless battery packs that clip right to the tripods, making the shoot easier.
I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction. I always like it when a reactor gets truly excited about a release that I enjoy. In addition you offer valuable education even though probably 50% of it or more goes right over my head. You might want to check out a recent release by PattyCake Productions: Into the Storm. It is an original by Layne and Tony from Elphaba’s point of view. The featured artist is Jessica Vosk who played her on Broadway and has a gorgeous voice. In addition Tony and Layne have outdone themselves on the video production values. There are cameos of different versions of the wicked witch all the way back to when Margaret Hamilton played her. The OG wicked witch cameo is played by Kathy Castellucci, Geoff’s wife. You probably won’t recognize her but it’s always a pleasure to see her.
I loved your enthusiastic reaction- thanks! Voice Play's November release of "Stand By Me" went unnoticed by most reactors and it is stunning! The cover is in a vertical format filmed in their mall so it was probably mistaken as a mini/short rather than a full length video. Please react to "Stand By Me"- it will blow you away!
May i draw your attention to an artist you have not heard yet, Angelina Jordan from Norway. I recommend "I put a spell on you" black/white version or her performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (she got praise from rest Queen and the copyright to her version) on AGT Champions 2020. Love from Norway!
A month or two ago. My full unpaused reactions are available on Patreon. However, for the holidays, I did release a couple videos this month that include the full reaction as well =)
Ya know, it’s not healthy to repress your emotions like that… you really should work on expressing yourself more openly. 😂 There’s another reactor, Mortius, who is all over those pauses too. The more you listen to VP and Geoff, the more you become aware of their habits. And those pauses is one of them. They had done a track from the Warframe gane some time ago - it’s called Sleeping in the Cold Below. The devs heard it, dug it, and asked them to do a track for the new Warframe release. That’ll be their next drop.
This version made me realize that a choir of angels probably would not sound "angelic" at all, but more along these lines.
Definitely, the angles where not described as fluffy little guys, but more as the warriors of heaven 👍🏻 So your thought makes a lot of sense 🫶🏻
@@Sarah83_loves_bass Exactly that. Following this train of thought, I have done a little research in the past few days, and I am still trying to find a Bible verse describing any angel as "angelic" 😅

So glad that Geoff's musicianship is getting recognized. He is more, so much more than just an incredible bass!
This is an incredible offering.
