Did Coltrane remember all the diversities he did on all the "My Favorite Things"? I mean all of them are so incredibly great. John Coltrane was the best, I see why Miles was devastated when he left his band, John Coltrane was truly a legend.
Train is Train there is no words...first time this version came to me Unbelievable ..no words..but about M.Davis...see trumpet is diferent to get crazy...and who knows who is better Picasso or Stravinsky)))world could be better without competition's!)...
The are so many version of My Favorite Things by Trane. In each one you can sense the mood of Coltrane. It's the first time I listen to this Berlin's version. I am around 4 minutes listening and I think it is one of the best version Trane had played. Maybe an expert can add more!
I don't know how one would qualify as an "expert," but I so agree! It's the first time I've heard Coltrane riff on this tune in such a way that I actually prefer his initial noodlings around the melody (right at the beginning) over what he did on the famous studio version. In particular, I like many tonal leaps he takes without missing a fraction of a beat nor compromising the deliciously light and easy feel of the melody. Reminds me of the kind of genius Bird had: the ability to come up with seemingly unlimited musical ideas over the same melody--while not sacrificing beauty nor passion. I wish I had 1/10 of that kind of imagination and musical vocabulary. Such a treat to find this here, and for free, huh?
This man has done.which no other man could..evrr do.carrying the back front melody.all in 1 breath.truly amazing.....plus... His ability to use the scales he mastered...
Absolutely great! MCCoy drives it, Coltrane sends it to another world. Side note, best-tuned piano I've ever heard Tyner play. Stands right next to the "Selflessness " masterpiece. Beautiful ❤
One of the 3 or 4 best I agree but the album version is still the reference and 65 66 67 versions are stunning too. This is probably its best live performance in the hard bop years
Clearly someone hasnt heard to pimp a butterfly by kendrick lamar, im a huge fan of coltran alright but let me tell you there is music being made just as emotional and just as poignant but not just in jazz, in genres like rnb, rap and pop. You might not believe me but there is amazing music being made today.

@@AllianceForWellness well stated
The Newport 1963 version is better recorded and has the delicious Roy Haynes. Elvin must have been in jail at the time.
for me the best version is the 1965 version in France, live (the video is on the internet).
But I admit that this version is really beautiful
