John Coltrane. What can I say. God blessed us with the ultimate in John Coltrane. I listen to him on audio reel-to-reel, lp records at home. So relaxing, spiritual and moving you in right direction. mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
He was one of many. Something he tried to teach was that within all of us is a hidden divinity, he reached his own through music. I feel that there are many ‘Coltranes’ out there who have gone through their own spiritual & musical journey akin to his and have yet to be discovered
McCoy Tyner is so overlooked in this brilliant piece! While I love everyone in this ensemble, I feel that Tyner and Elvin are a bit misplaced in the background and perhaps not appreciated. Sure Coltrane and Dolphy are magical but for me the supporting cast is what truly make this cut.
One of my very favorite sets ever. Nov 23, 61. There's also an Impressions recording from the show--though for some reason the SQ is inferior. Coltrane's solo is incredible. The whole band is incredible. And a word on Dolphie's flute solo. Listen to it; then put on Jimi's If 6 Was 9 and tell me the bird calls at the end don't sound remarkably similar!
This entire piece is very interesting because the band switches all the time from the minor to the major versions of the scale. It's basically a musical way to go from sad to happy, or from tense to a release of tension. Poetic expressions, personal interpretations and artistic embellishments aside, that's how they manage to give such a nice feeling in these passages. Musically they are switching from a slightly melancholic tone to a light and happy one.
. . . I first started listening to JC in 1984 . . . just wish I heard this the first time I took acid in 67
Beautifully sad, thrilling, enthralling, spiritual, iconic....I'm lost for words and adjectives
I feel it spiritual !
I guess I am pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
Hundreds of times I heard this sound, I've never been tired of.
THE flute is such angelic addition
Never heard this particular version of this song; I’ve heard many versions from Trane but this is beautiful and new

What did I just stumble across. This is soooo very pleasing to my soul. Perfect timing. Perfect tunes. My soul is at peace tonight. THANK YOU!
That is the most exciting floot playing I have ever heard.
Dolphy used to listen to the birds in the morning to get it right.
Eric Dolphy was the man
@@bellodpb I just can't stop myself spelling like that.....a floot is played by a flautist.
Every time I listen to this I just feel like I wanna cry from happiness 😢

This "colored" American artist were more popular in Europe than in the US.
Srsly ? I'm from France and yes indeed Coltrane is very popular.
Idk Bout that. Trane is loved in all of America
Loved now but back then; definitely more popular in Europe sadly enough
