As a bigger/heavier guy, I like my Mach 5s for flat tempo/track, but on descents they blow through the soft Profly+ foam and slam into the firm EVA below. This is also more likely to happen as the temperature goes up and the Profly+ becomes even softer. So for lighter runners or flats only, they are a fast fun shoe. But for heavier runners in warm climates or descents, I'd recommend something more firm with a more gradual foam transition to the sole.
Hey, i see you have copy pasted this exact comment on multiple reviews. Can you elaborate more, like how heavy are you, what shoes do you recommend, etc?
So many great shoes! I love my Mach 4 's. Today I purchased the Mach 5 and am excited to run tomorrow morning. I'm a slow runner and plan to run my October marathon in this shoe. The energy response will be enough for me. I have narrow feet with high arches. Shoe locks down great!! This shoes checks all the boxes:-)
Late to the party but HOLY SHIT. This is the shoe. Picked it up looking for a Steady Run shoe, now I can’t put it down. Basically force myself to rotate for easy runs. Such a brilliant shoe. Cushioned and comfy but so light and responsive!? Great shoe. Also appreciate them coming in wide. My only grumble would be how high the heel lock holes are and how short the tongue is - I just use the hole down without the heel lock. That’s it!
Im buying it soon and it will be my first actual running shoes, ive been running for the last month or so in nike air max ap's, they are both heavy and unresponsive, 400 grams in shoe size 7.5 i think, cant wait to get the mach 5 and compare my 5k and 10k times
I just got the Mach 5 a couple weeks ago, and in love. Best running shoe I've ever used, coming from mostly Brooks Adrenaline/Glycerine, Nike Pegasus, and recently the New Balance 1080v12 which surprisingly I really didn't like. Mach 5 is a dream compared to all the rest I've tried.
I've have recently changed to running in Hoka shoes I bought three pairs having Coached runners and worked in a running shop I can safely say probably the best shoes I have run in, great review Ben.
First run out in the Mach 5s Ben and your not wrong these are lovely 💯 the lower stack height compared to the NovaBlast does give a far more natural feel as-well; without losing any of the return energy 👟
Recently passed 800 miles in the Mach 4! Beat the record of my old Pegasus 35's (720'ish miles). Considering the Mach 5's but can pick up the 4's for really cheap now and "if it aint broke" etc...
I picked up a pair of discounted Mach 4s before the Mach 5 came out based on your recommendation Ben. I've been pleased with them so far and would definitely consider the Mach 5s as my new daily trainers when the time comes. 👍🏻
Mine arrive tomorrow in the mail. Can’t wait for that glove fit feel. I pray the size is correct. Great review. I’m a soldier so lots of road and every other day running 🏃🏾♂️ as I’m training for school and to generally get faster paste. 💪🏿
I’m terms of durability. I wore through the forefoot of my 1st pair of Mac 4’s after 350 miles. Your pair at 1000km look brand new. Your gait cycle must be 👌
I do most of my daily runs in the Mach 4, love it. I must be on over 500 miles on it and it's not wearing much yet. I will certainly be getting the Mach 5 at some stage.
I tend to wait a while and don’t pick up the newest version On release based on value and also wanting to ensure it’s a good investment. Picked myself up a 2nd pair of Mach 4’s on sale for £70. All reviews on the Mach 5 I have seen have been positive tho and it’s tempting
I ran something like 3000km in my old Nike Air Pegasus shoes circa mid-1980s... seems as though modern shoes wear out real fast? Haven't run much in decades. Would like to, but injuries :(
Love hoka equip a little expensive for me tho, I use their running sock at £22 per pair, £130 is a great price, my novablast were more, defo give a look once these wear out
My only concern is that there are no outsole which might wear the shoes easily. so i usually use it in a more longer run maybe 10km or maybe a running event.
Cool review as always. Did you ever try out the Reebok floatrides 2,3or 4? I used to be a Hoka fan but after 5 pairs of cavus/speedgoats and mafates I found them a bit too pricey for the mileage they were good for. Most never lasted more than 500k for me. They do look better these days but I can usually get a floatride for about a third the price of a mach5 and they go on and on and on. No contest
I'm on my 3rd pair of the Floatride Energy 3 and I also run in the Mach 4. For me, the Mach 4 is the better shoe. It's comfort and fit is second to none. Great for daily training and tempo efforts. Can be used for racing up to 30km. The Floatride Energy 3 is superior in its outsole and grip and perhaps the durability. It's great as a road to light trail shoe, daily training and park run tempo efforts. I can run comfortably also up to 30km in this shoe. Can't go wrong with either but overall the Mach 4 is a better shoe for me but at the end of the day I can afford multiple pairs of the Floatride Energy 3 for the same price as a Mach 4 so will always be swayed by a bargain.
It still hasnt been released on my country, HOKA Mach 5 and Asics Novablast 3, I’m in a bit of a dillema with these two GOATED daily trainers. Might cop both and suffer eating Ramen for a month 🤣🤣😭😭

I switched to them after using the Brooks Ghosts and then training on the Xero HFS. I am glad to hear that they didn't change too much about the shoe. That's usually what causes me to switch. Thank you for the first impressions.
For an out and out easy daily milage shoe I prefer the Mach 4/5. The speed is more definitely more responsive with the nylon plate. Tend to only use the speed for faster runs so slightly different purposes for me
I've been using the Brooks Adrenaline this year. I've put in nearly 1,000kms and still going strong although I'm sure that will change soon. I'm thinking of the Speed 3 or one of the Hokas.
The adrenaline’s are a support shoe while the speed 3 is very neutral. I would get your gait analyzed along with looking at wear pattern on your old shoes before buying something with less support than you are currently wearing. You want to make sure you are in the right type of shoe

Hey Ben, quick question. Would you recommend these for an Ultra?!, I’m doing the 70mm mile Hadrians wall run in three weeks time. I normally wear the Carbon X2 but your review has got me thinking about changing. Thanks in advance
How does this compare to the speed 3? Are they comparable? I didn't feel the invincible was easy on the legs because it's unstable. I loved the bounce and softness though.
What makes you rank the Nike Pegasus below the Mach 5 and the Nike Invincible for the long runs? Say you have some super shoes for race day but only can have one other pair for training purposes. Thanks Ben!!
Hi, what size would I be in hoka, I'm a UK 7.5 in saucony endorphin speed 2 . Plus I have a little room i the toe box. Do I ge the same size? Als, which would you say is better for a daily running shoe hoka or my saucony endorphin speed 2? Kind regards
I usually don’t get a very good lockdown with Hoka’s. Are the 5’s and improvement over the 4’s? I mean are they a bit more of a racer fit this time around?
Have you run in the saucony kinvara 13s at all? Curious to hear your thoughts as an alternative daily trainer. I've been using them for a few months and LOVE them.
Great review. I want to try this shoe but I have the Clifton 8 (cushioned), Rebel V2 (bouncy), and the Invisible Run 2 (cushioned and bouncy). Is it better than a Clifton for easy long runs?
Ben I have a very humble request as a runner Can you make a Vedio about Sub 17 min 5k Which is a barrier for a lot of runners around the world as you’ve crossed that Barrier. We would be very happy if you’ll do that. Thank you !!
Hi Ben, have you ever raced in the Rocket X and if so what are your thoughts? Would be tempted to try it as it's very affordable alternative to the more expensive racers.
Don’t get them, or at least wait for the second version. The first one has just been a unresponsive slab of rubber. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, take a look at the Puma nitro elites as they’re often discounted in price
Nice review Ben 👍 How do you feel they compare to the Asics Novablast which I have been a huge fan of ❓ Were they true to fit on size or perhaps need to go 0.5 up ❔

Yes I forgot to add this. A fairly narrow fit (D) but this iteration comes in a wide (EE) so may be a good option :) be interested to hear if anyone tried it
As you can see from the Mach 4, I ran 1000km in that shoe so unless your looking for a shoe that goes beyond that I wouldn’t be too concerned personally

Cool stuff Ben as always!.. but which one would u choose between these and the invincible??.. seems they serve a similar purpouse.
Invincible for me is more an out and out recovery shoe where as this is an easy/tempo shoe. Mach 5 for me personally would be an easy pick
Great video, what would you say is the biggest difference between the this and the Clifton?
Main difference is the midsole. The Clifton has more of a protective foam, a lot less responsive for me personally but still a great option
Would you say the Mach 5 works daily trainers and race shoes for a first half-marathon runner aiming for a 1:30-1:40 time?
I also have this shoe but the tongues always slide away to the left and right. What can I do to fix it?
My only concern is that there are no outsole which might wear the shoes easily. so i usually use it in a more longer run maybe 10km or maybe a running event.

I doubt you’d be miraculously swayed if I’m honest. A very familiar feel just a few improvements

Bonjour et merci pour les informations. C’est la durabilité de la semelle qui m’inquiète.
As you can see from the Mach 4, I ran 1000km in that shoe so unless your looking for a shoe that goes beyond that I wouldn’t be too concerned personally
@@BenIsRunning merci 👍
