Let’s face it, if you’re watching this video you are almost certainly a running shoe geek and already have at least 5 shoes in your rotation. You’ll surely get the endorphin speed and have a “back up” carbon plated shoe as well. Mach 5 is great if you are sensible and have 1 or 2 shoes in your rotation. For a junkie like me I know I’ll use the Novablast for the slow runs but the Mach 5 will not get used because there are better shoes for fast days.
@@hamoudalnasser If I was buying now, Speed 3 (or Speed 2 which is also really good, similar to 3 and will be in sales for sure). I have used New Balance Rebel in the past which is non plated and a fast, fun shoe.
You describe my shoe rotation so well! I guess it means Mach 5 is next for me since I need to replace my NB Beacon 3 which was my long run workhorse for many years.
Hoka Mach 5 is my favorite road shoe of 2022. I love everything about it except the outsole durability. After over 200 miles mine still have a lot of the initial softness and pop. Definitely a great training shoe (and not a bad race option either).
I have both and def prefer the Mach 5. As the guys in the video mention, it’s that ‘don’t really notice i’m wearing them’ feel that does it for me. Only downside is the narrow fit which meant I had to go half a size up to avoid rubbing on small toe.
Providing I use daily trainers for moderate easy runs, cause in my fast workouts O tend to use plate shoes, Novablast has been an amazing work horse for me, being capable to go very well in Tempo Runs (in moderate Pace) and easy short or long runs. Nice review as always!
Had the Nova blast 2 that i used for daily easy runs and Mach 4 I used for Intervals, Tempo and 5 & 10K Road Racing. I liked them both. Both pair of shoes fit to size. The Mach 4 I did not have necessary durability issues after 300 miles. Like most Running shoes they start to lose their bounce after 3 - 400 miles anyway. Thanks for your Reviews.
I have tried both and Hoka feels so weird on feet. When I land on my foot I kind of feel all parts of the midsole separately. The most obvious is the outer side from midfoot to toes. Its like a hot dog filled with air that pushes part of my foot up when others went down. At the same time Novablast 3 feels amazing. I could easily forget about them during the run.
Haven't tried the Mach 5 :( But Novablast are my new favorite Daily trainer, thanks to FFBlast+ and the smart cutout of the middle gives an excellent bounce.
I am currently using both as an everyday trainer. Definitely prefer the Mach 5 so far, it's more comfortable and I like the spring of it. The Novablast I slap the ground with them for some reason and although the shoes fit me, my toes get a bit uncomfortable in them. On the other hand, I will be lucky to get 300 miles out of the Hokas before their bottoms are smooth.
I had the same issue with NB3 floor slapping (they just don’t roll like the mach 5) and the balls of my feet and toes burn for some reason had to sell them on.
I am deciding between the two. I am a forefoot striker and supinator. I also only run around 5k a few times per week at a relatively fast pace. Which of the two would you recommend?
@@georgehales5039 the Mach 5 is most stable of the two and suits the shorter distances and speed work for sure. To be fair the Mach 5 is probably one of the best daily trainers / tempo trainers I have owned.
tried the Mach 5, but it’s the same old Hoka issue, too narrow for my feet. 😢 Enjoying the novablast 3, really nice bouncy cushion, brilliant job from Asics
I found the Novablast feels really unstable on the foot, the soft cushioning is nice but wow it goes wrong if you run on anything less than ideal flat surfaces.
I ordered my normal size and half a size up of both of these to find out which would be better for me. I come from salomon trailrunning shoes like the senseride 2 and ultraglide. And i agree with most of what is being said in this review. The novablast cushioning feels a bit clunky to me compared to the mach 5. Which just feels more natural to me.. More groundfeel and responsiveness. Also the fit seems better suited to my (relatively narrow) feet at half a size up from my normal shoe size. The nova blast is either a bit tight or a too bit loose. I can’t speak on durability yet though.
I had the Novablast 1 and the Mach 4 previously and I couldn't fault the Mach it was a great shoe and a lot more durable than expected, if the 5 is better it will be some shoe.
Nice review, unfortunately Asics's drop is way too high for me so Hoka is what I have as daily trainer so far. I like their foam but I feel they need some improvement.
Own them both and much prefer the Mach 5. Just crossed 200 miles on my pair of Mach's and the soles are showing pretty decent wear but just love the lock down and fit of them compared with the Nova.
I would not buy a shoe for that much without durability ,loved the novablast 2 for long runs and having a lighter version is a great plus ,loved new balance when I first started running but they didn't last more than 250 miles ,and I have the endorphin speed 2 ,adios pro 2 and liberate nitro for faster stuff
The Mach 5 seemed to wear down somewhere around 150 miles for me. Loved the Mach 4 but the 5 was eh. I have around 45 miles on the Novablast 3 with a half marathon just last weekend and I ended up with a sever blister on my second toe on my right foot. EXTREMELY comfortable she overall though. But agree certainly not a shoe for faster runs.
Love the Mach 5, definitely one of my favorite shoes, it just disappears on foot. I just never liked the Novablast 1 or 2. My biggest complaint is the drop, it feels much higher than the listed 8mm. I much prefer lower drop shoes personally.
@@xaviergutierrez1331 they don't feel that way to me. I've had many NB shoes over the years and none of them felt like the drop was higher than listed. I currently have in my rotation the Rebel v2, more v3, and Supercomp trainer.
@@mtmatt6111 I really like them! The cushioning is great and they feel lighter on foot even though they are on the heavier side. The upper is amazing and they are surprisingly stable for such a high stack shoe. I like them so much that I probably won't pick up the More v4 now.
I am interested in the Mach 5, especially after this video. My Novablast 3 are long in the toe (possibly I should have went down a size) and feel a bit boat like. I'm right at 400 miles in them and the left heel interior has a fairly large hole that has formed. Overall, I just don't feel they fit my more narrow feet well. I run a lot of hills and have decided I prefer more nimble shoes, so will likely try out the Mach 5. Thanks for the video!
A long run shoe needs a bit of durability. The hoka flattened out at 250 miles. That's 2 and a half weeks of running for £120. NB3 will get you at least 2 and a half months. Note: it's a mileage shoe and not built for track/ tempo days
I tried both shoes but the hoka really didn't fit on my feet and not only this model. I felt a pressure, they are really narrow. I chose the nb3 and is the daily trainer in my rotation. ✌️I am really enjoying them
Not a runner, but get a couple of miles miles walking in every day at a fairly brisk pace. Would the novablast be more suitable for me then given it sounds like the Mach 5 comes into its own when you're moving at a fair clip? Or would it make little difference at a walking pace?
Personally there are a lot of better walking shoes . I would personally go for a plush and comfortable ride (even for running) but those shoes tend to be heavier due to the plush material . 1080 from NB is good shoe
Hi, what about using both (If there are great deals outside)? And for even faster runs use a shoe with a carbon plate like Saucony Endorphin Speed or ASICS Metaspeed Sky+. Or is that ridiculous and not really necessary? (That would be my preferred masterplan...) I want a daily trainer, one I use when I want to do really relax runs, than interval runs, than fast runs. Plus I thought using different brands/shoes could be a benefit for my body/legs/foot as well 🤷
hey gents, when you guys say true to size and this goes for all of your videos, do you mean true to size in a running shoe, which most sales people tell me to go a half size bigger than my normal walking around/actual shoe size, or when you say true to size do you mean, your actual shoe size? thanks for the videos, they have been and still are awesome and a definite time saver when going out to look for running shoes😀

Based on the review, it sounds like the Asics Noosa Tri 14 might be more of a direct competitor to the Mach 5 than the NB3.
Noosa15 with their blast + will be interesting!

Triumph 20 over Mach4 or NB2 for me. Not tried M5 or NB3 though.
Thanks Nick. Have you or any of the run testers tried the Nike Vomero 16s? It'd be great to have a review of those on this channel
Not one we’ve tested yet unfortunately!
OK thanks. Mach5 too narrow, nova too long for me. Vomero's are wider, seem perfect for easy and long runs. Looking out for a good deal! 👍🏼
