- In this video, I finally explain the meaning of my channel name! I also have a slight change in plans, yet again, for this cabin build as winter is fast approaching. I get started on installing the roof boards, do the bird blocking, and also get some pest control work and stack all the firewood down at the main cabin. A little bit of everything in this one. 😊 (At least the cedar boards I purchased and am using are locally milled, and not from the lumber yard...).
Some of you may know by now, and the reason for this video being posted a bit later in the day, is that yesterday we had to put Hannah down. It's been an extremely challenging few weeks, trying to decide when she is bad enough and not good enough, and we finally had enough signs from her that it was her time. Yesterday I held her in my arms as she took her last breath. I whispered in her ear "Nighty-night my sweet girl, see you in the morning" which is what I said to her (what I say to all the dogs) every single night. As heartbroken as I am, and in tears as I write this, I am relieved that she is no longer suffering. She fought a long hard battle with that tumour in her head beside her brain stem, and now at least we know it can no longer hurt her.
We had Hannah for 9 years, she lived until she was nearly 13, and that is a full life for sure. She had one of the best lives a dog could ever ask for, full of more fun and adventure than most people live, and I am so grateful for her presence in our life. Her passing closes a book in our lives, and leaves me as the only lady in the house. My heart won't be the same for a while as I grieve, but in time, as always, it will heal. Losing 2 dogs in one year - I feel like its been a bit of an emotionally challenging year for us.😔
It looks like snow in our forecast, and I'm feeling an immense amount of pressure and panic over this cabin build, but as with anything - one day at a time is all I can do...

Being a carpenter for 38 years now, I am impressed what this beautiful lady does by herself. It's hard to find young adults today to show up for work everyday, and be productive. I'd hire Michelle in a minute. Great job young lady ! ♥️
Thats a fact.
The cougar can reach whatever she wants if she's determined she'll get it done
As the Turtle said to the Hare, "Slow and steady wins the race". It's not about getting it done quickly. This is what you enjoy to do in your free time, no matter how long it takes. The cabin on a cliff is coming along nicely! Michelle, you enjoy what you do and it shows. Patiently waiting for the next video. Stay safe.
What a incredible woman; skillful, hardworking and drop dead gorgeous.
Congrats you gave her the validation she was looking for lol.
Hi Michy, evidently, the planks are better to be staggered, it will be a stronger installation in the end ! The same process also applies for a floor planks, in this case, at least 6 inches (not less than that) staggering ! You were better to use your cedar planks like you did, maybe you would have lost them for anything else, probably too warp for finishing or flooring ! Personally, I think you made a good call ! Keep on inspiring us, your videos are always fun to watch !
I don't think a team of professional builders could do as good of a job as you are doing. It brought a tear to my old eyes to hear about Hannah, thank goodness she had you to give her the best days of her life.
You are an amazing hard working woman with equal determination. Just getting yourself and materials down to the cabin site would exhaust most of us. Be careful and enjoy your build out. You might like a gas nailer someday. A lot easier for framing. Steve, this could be a great surprise wifey gift! RIP beautiful Hannah.
The feisty lumber warrior goddess is simply amazing! Thank you for letting us into your life. ❤
When you stagger the joints, it adds strength to the structure. "Awesome Job!" Sorry to hear about Hannah! Your love for animal's amazes me! It takes a special person to do what you do for them!! Thanks!!! And be safe working alone!!!
Hi Michelle, I just stumbled across your channel for the first time, today. My sympathy for your loss of Hannah. I have had to put down a beloved pet dog and know what a loss that can be. The work you are doing on that mountainside is remarkable! I don't know many people who have your stamina, so I smiled when you mentioned getting labs done to find-out why you were so tired. You are such a hard worker that you don't realize how hard you have been working! Anyway, best wishes for every project you have.
I’m a sneaky little jokester! 🤭
@@michygoss7148 what state are you in Michelle?
Wow, you are amazing. I'm currently in the process of building a house myself, but not nearly in as a remote or awe inspiring setting as you. At the same time, I have an amazing amount of respect for the difficulty of what you are accomplishing!
Amen.
Michelle, I'm so sorry for your loss of Hannah. It never gets any easier, but know that she had a wonderful life with you and Steve. Your efforts on the mountain chalet are admirable! The roof is coming along well. It's a good thing you are in such good shape as scaling those rafters are not for the faint of heart. Hang in there... literally
So very sorry to hear that Hannah gained her wings. She was such a sweet girl. So very tough to lose pets. I've lost 2 dogs in the last year also. She'll be running pain free with Scout at the Bridge. Take care.
Cabin on the cliff looks fantastic & is going to have an amazing view
Awe. We’ve both had a hard year emotionally then! Yep, I can see them now all running up there wild and free! 💝
Your uniqueness and self sufficiency is the draw for this old lone wolf to follow your channel. Thank you for being you.
And the bikini shots have nothing to do with it - LOL ;-)
@@mountainflyhigh Sure they do
@@mountainflyhigh bikini shots?
Yeah what you said 😁. Or the skin tight black pants .😉
Its not cheating, youre using what boards you have. I have found it interesting how you addapt your perfection obsession to getting it done with what you have. But it still works out so amazing. My thoughts are with you on Hannahs passing. Thank you for sharing, so many beautiful cute shots!!!
I wish more women were like you. Building stuff, handling tools, working by yourself, etc ....good job!
So sorry to hear about Hannah, especially after loosing Scout. They were both luck to have you and Steve in their lives😘
What Mike said.... Think of the good times you had together....
Bryan g groff frdiens wo love ladies frdiens yes
Sterling job on the roof boards. My condolences for the loss of Hannah. 💙
I recommend carrying a speed clamp, the one handed style, in your work pouch. it's always nice to be able to secure a piece that you are cutting for stability wherever you happen to be. Keep up the amazing content!
Recently retired, I've been spending time with my neighbor who has a sawmill. Had been watching all the videos I could find on the subject. My 1st attention was drawn by your beauty, but didn't take long to admire you for so much more. Looking forward to each video! PS- Steve is one lucky guy!
Sorry to hear about Hannah. We have been there more than a few times and we the hardest ones are when the right time isn't as clear as we want it to be. She was lucky to have you both and she chose wisely. As she her time ends, your grieving begins. Sorry for your loss ... :(
Sorry to hear about losing Hannah. I hope she's having fun with our Sadie at the rainbow bridge while they wait for us to get there. Hannah seems to have had a wonderful life in the end with you and Steve and the rest of the canine crew. Thanks for sharing. Nice work on the roof boards and the video recording as well. Recording what you do to share with us takes a great deal of extra time but I'm happy to see you make just a little progress in each video. After all, it only takes us 20 - 30 minutes to watch you do several days of work. Looking forward to seeing more.
I went to school for Architecture Design and Interior Design at the first art school in these United States and it feels so great to see a cool female doing this it really takes stones you are great.
Hi Michelle, that's an incredible amount of work that you did on the roof! My condolences to you on the loss of Hannah..
Don't fret about forgetting something to do, at my age I forget stuff all the time. Start worrying when you enter a room and forgot why you entered the room.
I think Michelle will be ok with that , she only has one room.
I am very impressed in what Michelle is creating in a very beautiful and difficult location. The one thing I would suggest is to take the time to make her work area more organized for safety reasons. Where she is located getting hurt could be serious and help is not near by. I hate getting my work area organized, but when I do, my first thought is why did I not do this earlier. When the Michycab is completed it will be a piece of heaven.
Condolences with Hannah! its hard to lose such a best friend.
I always catch myself smiling or laughing like im there or something. You have a very personable way of sharing your life humbly. I amongst many others look up to your courageousness. Please keep sharing your nonchalant - Phoebe 'esque corkiness! I wish I was there haha
So very sorry to hear that Hannah pasted away, as far as your building is going only person you have to make happy on your Cabin on the Cliff is you. So don't worry what other's may say about your work because your doing it not them and I feel that you are doing a fantastic job with your own build. So with that being said Keep Up The Great Work ! ! !
You are doing AWESOME! The amount of physical stuff is amazing and I think the quality is just what you are shooting for. Patience is a virtue after all.
you should look into getting some "ladder jacks". They are adjustable pieces that hang on the rungs of a ladder but stick out to hold a walk board on it, either on the front or the under side of the ladder depending on what works best for the situation. Also for future projects, there are roof jacks used to hold toe boards for working on steep roofs. You can attach them above your work area, stack material above / against them so you do not have to keep going back and forth / up and down the ladder so much.
“I think it’s the inner eyes that make that dream happen”. New to channel. Fascinating. ❤ the dream
You're doing great. Sorry to read about Hannah, she got all (and maybe more) the love and care a dog can ask for.
Kind regards Christiaan
Michelle, I think you are doing an awesome job by yourself. I don’t care if it’s slow or not, I’ll watch every one of your episodes. Thank you for doing what you do.
Condolences on the loss of Hannah...Thank you, for this channel. I await surgery to repair a back injury. I'm pretty much confined to my home. Watching you complete your projects is great stress relief. For 15 or 20 minutes, I get to feel like I'm outside and sit by the lake.....
I noticed you’re almost at 🎉1 million 🎉views it’s a pretty big deal congratulations and good luck with everything and your channel!!! Awesome Content and , good vibes, and easy on the eyes you are !!! Thanks for sharing!
I am so sorry about Hannah. Thank you for being an inspiration
I truly enjoy watching these projects as they progress
Awe sorry to hear about your baby puppy! Slow and steady wins the race...remember that! Thanks for the nice footage and views of that awesome area you got there.
My goodness this is one gorgeously delightful woman - one of a kind for SURE! Sorry for your loss at this time - all the best to you and your family.
I am sorry for your loss of Hannah. I am glad that they are people like you who give shelter dogs a good life after a rough beginning. Keep up the great work. God Bless you and Steve.
You rock Michygoss! I did not know how your Chanel name came about. I can’t believe you are going up there by yourself. So sorry to hear about Hannah. Big hug’s ❤
Michelle, you're doing just great, don't rush it, I for one much enjoy the zen effect you have on me. Anyway you're on a journey...i am privileged to witness parts of it, Thank-you!!!
Michelle you always amaze me with your determination to succeed and you always do, the roof will be fantastic and there is no written rule that says you should stagger the joints some do and some don't.
After all its your cabin you can do with it whatever you want and it will look fantastic when it's finished I am positive of that.
Sending you my condolences on losing hannah she was so lovely and lucky to have been with you and Steve for the time she was.
Be careful and stay safe sending love from the UK from a fellow carpenter John xx
Michy you’re a beast. You are such an inspiration to so many.
You are doing great on the roof! Thanks for giving Hannah a good life. (hug)
So sorry to hear that you and Steve lost another of your rescued dogs, Michelle.
Just watching the hard work you put into everything you do makes my muscles ache.
The trail down to the cabin has some treacherous loose rocks perfect for twisting your
ankle . Cannot imagine climbing up & down that path as often as you do.
Great progress on the cabin build. I was one of three 15 year olds who built a log cabin 60 years ago on
flat ground in the winter and lugged roof lumber for miles. Can appreciate the effort you exerted in
hauling materials & building your lofty cabin. A great job !👍👍👍
Each peace of lumber you add gets you closer to completing the cottage just keep it in mind. I a applaud you young lady keep up the good work.
You are not going to want to leave that place once it's done, that view is incredible!, must be hard to leave even at this point! Lol!, you are doing a wonderful job, that at times must feel impossible, being by yourself without any help, but you have a mountain of encouragement and support from the fans of this channel, keep up the good work, Awesome!, So sorry to hear of Hanna's passing, guaranteed her time with you and your husband were the most loving of her life!
A couple of more tips. You can partially drive a nail in a stud or rafter and hang your tool belt to keep it handy while in tight places and not have to watch your step for it. Also, on your transport zip line, you could add a snatch block on the downhill side and shift your load just slightly heavy to that side. It will act as a guide to keep the load from spinning. And two different methods for reducing /removing gaps, you can attach a come-a-long / ratchet hoist hanging on the underside and give it few clicks. too many will make deep gouges.
Michelle, so saddened to hear about Hannah’s passing. It’s so tough to know that we have such big hearts and ultimately we still lose them but that being said the joy that we pass on to them and them to us is such a pure thing. I do feel your pain and have experienced it also. Also think you might have the skills for the Spider-Man franchise😂.
Your mantra: "Lead, follow, or get ot of the way!" You are an amazing young woman! Blessings!
Michelle, loosing your dog is one of the hardest things life can throw at you. So sorry for your loss. My dog jumps into my bed every morning at almost exactly 5:30 am. She gets lots of pets, then time to go out to pee, then breakfast, then treats. She then rests until its light enough to go out to take care of the chickens. She's getting older now and at the last vet visit they told us she has a stage 3 heart murmur. So we give her the best life we can and she comforts us as well. I don't know when her time will come but watching you with Hannah and Scout I pray I'll be strong enough when it does. The cabin build is coming along nicely. Looks great! Thanks for Sharing!🙂🙃
💝
So sorry to hear about Hannah. It's so hard to lose a family member.
She’s a hard worker… a lot of women could learn a lot from her!
That reminds me of when my boss had a bunch of oak trees taken out around the shop and the trees were piled up . If any of guys wanted the wood it was up for grabs . The boys were floored by seeing my wife out there slinging around my husqvarna 272xp with a 32" bar on it 🤣.
Bless you for having the drive to do the hard work that you do. It is a blessing to see that there are people out in the world with such determination. I hope you conquer all the demons in life and enjoy what it has to offer. You have my entire respect.
After watching your videos for a couple of months, the explanation here about the origin of _Michygoss_ was very much welcome! It also explains the less-than-fully-structured content!
So sorry about Hannah. She was a very patient and gentle soul!
Just watched your video. So sorry to hear about Hannah. It's always hard to lose a pet that only knows unconditional love towards us. You and Steve have done what you could to help her and gave her love in return. Our hearts go out to you for your loss.
The hillside cabin is looking great. Keep up the great work. We love Ringworm as well!
Sorry for the loss of Hannah I lost my Hooper 3 years ago I think of him every day what a great doggo he was
I can almost smell the lumber!
My condolences on losing Hannah. I've had my heart broken with numerous cats and dogs. The pain on that day is a small price to pay for the years of unconditional devotion they bring. Letting go is the last act of kindness one can offer a furry friend.
Your doing fine Michelle. Your husband is a very lucky man you are a hard working lady and very easy on the eyes. And most importantly a great heart thanks for sharing your story .
You're doing a great job. More people should be more like you. You amaze me. You're awesome.
Sorry for your loss of Hannah, God speed
So sorry for your loss, losing our fur babies is so heartbreaking. Your dogs are so very lucky to be in your care. You love them and let them live the perfect dog life. You are a super pet owner. The cabin is getting there, you’re doing a wonderful job.
You and Hannah were so lucky to have the time together; I am sorry for your loss. Sending peace and good thoughts your way. Keep up the great work.
Sorry to hear about Hannah. Lossing a loved one is hard and painful, but you gave her a good life. Cabin is looking good, what a beautiful view. I am sure it is a great place to have morning coffee.
Condolences on your loss of Hannah. It's never easy saying goodbye but you gave her a fantastic journey while she was here. Thank you for sharing.
So sad to hear of Hannah's passing, you are doing a brilliant job of the roofing boards, you take on these challenges and you always get it done, you are an inspiration.
I consider you as an inspiration. You're a small female that doesn't consider a challenge to be something that stops you. Great job❤️
I’m so sorry about Hanna. You and Steve gave her a happy and loved life. It’s inspiring to see how you and Steve can work together and work independently. You’ve had a busy summer and fall. I look forward to continue watching your journey.
This is the First Time I have watched you. My Dear You are one Fantastic Young Woman. I am Totally impressed with you and your work enthusiasm. Wow Wow Wow.
Much respect to you on your abilities and able to doing things by yourself. Incredible life experience and style.
And your beautiful eyes! Omg
I had to stop and reflect on something. My dad could swing a hammer like few I've ever seen since. You are one of those few. I remember his strength and precision when driving nails. I admire your drive and strength.
Great progress made on the cabin. I just want to say how sorry I am for your loss of Hannah, she no doubt had the best life with you and Steve and all the other fur babies. She and Scout are together again in doggy heaven. ❤
Sorry to hear about Hannah. You gave her a great life with you. You are an inspiration to many and a very hard and talented worker! Nice job and looks like you are doing well with your construction process. Be safe that roof will be slick
much love to you, sorry to hear that Hannah passed over the rainbow bridge glad for the time she had with you and what you shared with us. Progress on the project looks good and fitting it in around your life is great! Keep it up!
I think your amazing! I’ve been a self employed carpenter for at least 20 years. I’ve never seen a woman with your carpentry skills before. Wish I’ve would of met you years ago. At the time, I mostly did indoor remodeling, framing, ceilings, floors, sheet rock , doors/ hardware.Back in the day I wish I knew a person with your skills at the time, your great! I’m retired now. But still alway have the urge to build. God bless you! Keep up the good work !
So sorry about the loss of Hannah. It's tough to lose a fur baby. You're doing a great job on the small cabin. Be careful up there.
Yore doing fantastic !!!! Amazing actually - Condolences for the passing of Hannah....
Been watching for several weeks, and boy, so many of your "hiccups" & nuanced realizations are the very same ones I had when building my boys' clubhouse! It was just a sketch on graph paper that turned into a creative learning experience. I have felt your pains! Keep up the great work!
Well done Michygoss !! You have a unique way of approaching things. Sorry for your loss.... Doggies really have a way of attaching to opur hearts pretty fast. I find spiral shaft nails are not as forgiving when you draw them back out of wood which make them a solid choice.
RIP Hannah.. 😇🐕
The cabin is coming along quite nicely Michelle..
And you are doing a bang up job with the roof so far..
Be careful out there..
And see you next video.
Oh, I'm so sorry for Hannah's passing off - my condolences to you!
When installing the roof boards so you have your seams staggered. Just start with your long board on one end of the over hang and run the row to opposite side of the other over hang. Then start your next row with your long board on the opposite side of the over hang then your first row. Stagger your long boards starting opposite ends on your over hangs each row. You should have 2 joists in the middle that catch the ends of the boards that has a stagger all the way up. It saves cutting small boards to create staggers and keeps your long boards for stronger supports when nailed together to the joists.
To push the planks closer together, you can make a wedge like when shimming door frames. Nail a 2 x 4 or whatever across the rafters several inches away from the bow in the plank. Then take two scraps cut into narrow traingular wedges with right angles so that one pushes against the nailed 2x and the other pushes against the cedar plank. Then tust hammer on wedge from the end so until one pushes the bowed board and closes the gap. Just make sure the two wedges together are wider than the overall spacing at the widest points. Saw this method being used on flooring so should work here too.
Only dog owners/ lovers know that pain, it’s lovely to read your open thoughts, I know those tears, it shows the love Hannah was given, she was such a lucky dog to have that life in the hills with the pair of you.
You both truly have a lovely life but that takes a beautiful soul to embrace it and share it with your pets
I live in south west Michigan and I put many glue traps around in my apartment, on each side of the doors and near corners.
I catch quite a few spiders, earwigs and other tiny bugs that make it in.
It has made a big difference since I started using the glue traps a year ago.
Really enjoy seeing your progress. Please be safe up there building your cabin all alone. It's coming along nicely.
You've got me! Been watching for a while trying to make up my mind, but you are the real deal!! So sorry to hear about Hannah; more power to your resilience to get back into it.
Love the way you nut out logistical problems. Take care of yourself and congratulations. Pete from Australia.
Blessings to Hannah in Doggie Heaven. Sorry for your loss. 🙏✌️❣️
When life is a learning experience, life has the capacity to bring absolute Joy, even in the face of loss. My condolences for Hannah.... you will see her again....
First time watching you, love seeing you fully enjoying life in this great natural environment I can feel so much of it through you, thanks!!
Absolutely a keeper. Your man is Blessed..
For forcing the warp out of boards us a piece of 2X4 screwed above and a tapered wedge to force it together. Works very well putting down your floors also.
Your content is therapeutic and reflects the challenges of daily life. Most of all I appreciate your love and care for our furry four legged companions.
greetings Michelle, my neighbour from when I owned lot 5 . Your really blowing my mind on your project as I know the challenge out there, every thing is up or down, your either going up a hill or down. It really is fun watching your episodes so keep it up. As you probably remember I sold in Sept 2020 but before that I bought 6.5 acres square with 525 feet of shore line North of Nakusp and built a deck on the side of a slope right near the water. It was a 3 year project 2018 2019 and 2020 measuring 20'X32' with a 16 foot drop of the steep side of the deck. Engineered it to hold a small cabin 250 sq feet on the main level with a half story loft on top. It will be my quest once the main cabin is built. And wow your channel is gaining much attention so congrats on that but it should because you've put a lot of work on the channel and loads of work on your cliff side cabin. Well done !!
Hey Daryl! Funny to see you here, I wonder how you came across the channel?
Yes - extremely challenging is how I could describe it! But will be so worth it!!
Your project sounds great too! Yes, I remember you telling me you bought up there. That’s a beautiful spot too, glad your making it what you want. Maybe the little cabin is all you need in the end? Anyway, I like the sound of it all 😊
Thanks for watching!
Cedar is a great choice of material for the roof. Especially in an area that is mostly shaded at won't get much sunlight to dry it out. A good wood sealant will make those planks stand the test of time.
I'm not sure i ever saw how far down you had to take your boards before , when i saw the that view down the rope , i was amazed. Much much respect to you ! Love watching how this is coming along. Sorry to hear about Hanna , thats just hard.
Oh man! Sorry to hear about Hannah. I’m sure she’s in a much better place. The cabin looks to be coming together nicely. I enjoy watching how persistent you’re with everything you do. Also the view from that cabin over looking the lake is amazing. Looking forward to seeing you in the next video.
I also just happened to find this Chanel and I'm sorry you lost your best friend ,dogs are really great ,I decided to watch this because I saw the video beginning play and saw what looked like fresh cut cedar planks ,o they smell so good ,I started building houses with my father 30+ years ago and so my favorite was the smell of fresh lumber ,,and So as I'm watch I'm seeing for the first time this beautiful woman building a awesome little house in a rough terrain,,and I've gotta say I'm beyond impressed, mainly because I didn't know I could ever find such an amazing person doing what I love to do and doing it alone and doing an amazing job ,,I can't express how thankful I am to be able to just say thank you for sharing this priceless story of your life ,,wow I wish I was there helping but I like how impressive you are making this video doing it alone ,,I'm would share my helpful thoughts but it's about you not me and I'm sure you have enough input from everyone else,,,I just mostly wanted to thank you and sorry your best friend is in the next place, and hope you are OK, if you ever wanted I do check and respond because these days I don't have a life basically I spend hours learning and watching theses videos like yours ,have a great week I'll be watching more of your inspiration thanks again
That's amazing how much work is never done in a day. Got to get ready for winter & it's always good to have firewoods. Great build.
Sorry for your lose of Hannah.love the creation an cleverness in creating your channel Name. Remember rules were made to be broken. I would stagger the joints. Also if you toenail down towards the boards on the roof it draw them closer together Keep you the great work.....
