33 million Americans traveled safely to Mexico in 2022. Not to mention Canadians. Over 1 million Americans live safely in Mexico. Not to mention Canadians.

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza  3 месяца назад

Exactly. A better way to look at the statistics would be to compare the number of Americans and Canadians in Mexico a year to the violent crimes impacting those people. Then the crime rate becomes probably less than 25 people per 34 million. Which makes Mexico one of the safest countries in the world for Americans

Great (and accurate) job on the taxes and property ownership.
The doctor I see was educated in the U.S., practiced there two years (so obviously is fluent in English) and is a board certified surgeon. And I have his cell phone number. It's just amazing. A visit for anything costs $MX 600 - about $35. We also subscribe to a concierge service with him at $40 per month. For that, if we need anything - an ambulance, an emergency visit to the hospital, a house call - he will be there, treating us, translating for us - anything we need. Again, where can you find that in the U.S.?
And concern about safety is just very different than what people imagine the concerns should be. The real concerns are probably more about driving any distances - potholes (that will take out an axle if you don't see it,) very narrow roads and sharing them with semis, drivers passing you out of nowhere at 90+ MPH, etc. But, we happened to have a shooting here in Loreto Bay a week or so ago. I believe it is the first violent crime in the history of Loreto Bay. Even in Loreto, the town itself, violence is extremely rare and isolated to very specific events (e.g., drug deal gone wrong - we don't have anything approaching a pervasive problem here, but the random presence of it is everywhere.)

Great spiel on safety in Baja. I always say it's never front page news when someone has a fun and safe visit to Mexico.

Superb info Doug! I'm picking up my residency card this coming Monday. You're spot on about the medical.....I have LOVED the treatment I've received in Mexico. Much better than in the US. Quicker appointment times, more caring doctors, much cheaper prices. Also, you're right on about the safety aspect. Now, the horrific part of your video. The taxes! Yikes. I had no idea you paid that much running a business in Mexico. 😞

Just to add a bit of perspective to your medical info. In May, ‘24 I had a Dr. requested CT of pelvis/ Abdomen at Duke Raleigh, NC. Somehow the exam got assigned an incorrect billing code which generated a bill to me for the entire cost. Want to guess? Sit down first. It was $6,960.00 for the approximately 5-10 minute contrast scan. Billing code was corrected but they nearly had to treat me for a heart attack.

One thing I love about Mexico medical is that almost all pricing is listed upfront. Most of the time there is a "menu board" at the front desk listing all of the services and their prices. In a another video we show Esperanza getting a very similar CT scan with contrast for 6300 pesos or about $325 USD. This price was listed on their website so you knew exactly what you were going to pay before you ever went.

Loreto is very expensive compared to other parts of Baja. It has been that way for a long time.
We love Mercado Libre and use it often. Coppel is another good option. Mercado Pago is awesome for banking, too.
    30 cents for a taco? I don't think so 😅.
I love that you tell things from your experience versus some of the other knuckleheads who think they know everything.
Keep up the great work amigo 👍

Next time you are in Loreto I can take you up to the taco stands on the side of the highway where we can get 5 peso tacos. They might be coated with dust and flies but still good.

Ever since our go to hotel, Mar de Cortez, closed, we probably won't go back to Cabo. Tacos at most road side stands in Baja are 20-30 pesos from my experience. Five pesos 🤣. Cheers 🍻

I used to love Mar de Cortez. We stayed there during Sammy Haggar's birthday party at Cabo Wabo and all his roadies were staying there. That was a crazy party. We actually had a reservation there during covid when they closed. Very sad. Cabo is going high end luxury now. They are trying to make it the next Monaco according to the head of national tourism.

Right on! I caught a birthday show years ago when all you had to do was show up and stand in line. What a crazy night! Luckily for us we have lots of friends in the area so we don't need a hotel. But we prefer La Paz anyways. Cheers amigo!

    • @dooglassandesperanza

Mexico can be even more difficult to purchase a house since loans are very difficult for foreigners to get so almost all purchases are cash.

Douglas, in addition to the topics you already cover, it would be helpful if you could also discuss the tools you use in your videos. Many of your viewers, including myself, prefer tools that are not industrial-grade, as those can be quite expensive. Instead, it would be great if you could recommend good quality tools that are more affordable and suitable for personal use. Sharing your insights and experiences with the tools you find practical and effective would provide valuable guidance for us.

    • @dooglassandesperanza

Ar you in the US or Mexico. I ask because since I moved to Mexico my tool brands have changed since the US pro brands here are even more than in the US. My tool buying motto has always been "buy the best and you'll never be sorry". If I plan to use a tool regularly, I buy the best I can find. I have tools that I purchased when I was 18 years old that have been used heavily for the past 35 years and will last me until I die. If I am going to only use a tool once or twice in it's lifetime, then I buy the cheapest possible (within reason) since it only needs to last a few uses.
I will try to put a tool segment in an upcoming video.

Loreto has an international airport that is only 7 minutes away from our resort. They have flights to Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, and Calgary on a regular basis and seasonal flight to San Francisco. From San Diego you can also use Cross Border Express and then take Volaris from the Tijuana Airport.
