We stayed in San Felipe for a couple months. For all general "living in Mexico" topics, it is exactly the same as most of the other towns in Baja so you could watch my channel out of Loreto, or Almost Retired in Mexico out of La Paz, or Adventures of Bajaboy out of Bahia Ascencion. For specifics on food and lodging or communities like Dorado Ranch or Pete's Camp I would search on RUclips. We did several videos specific to San Felipe while we were there.

With our main guest demographic being over 55 we have found simpler is better. Many of our guests are not very tech savy and putting a complicated appliance in the Villas would generate a lot of help calls. I can't even imagine the calls we would get from people trying to make their morning toast in an air fryer.

Thanks! From the beginning this channel was about sharing our adventures with friends. We don't write any scripts or setup fake scenes, we just turn on the camera and film what we are doing. I'm sure our RUclips channel could be way bigger if we did try to make it into a targeted scripted channel, but that's not us.

Exactly! We are definitely happier than we were living the rat race. I know a lot of people wouldn't be happy doing what we are doing, and that's why I always say find what makes you happy and then do it.

People tend to think of Mexico as a place with no rules or regulations, but that is not true. If you dig into it, Mexico has almost all of the same rules and regulations as the US. We had to do all of the following to run our business legally: Get Permanent Residency Get a CURP (Social Security #) Get personal RFC (Tax ID#) Form a Mexican Sociadad (Mexican LLC) Get RFC (Tax ID #) for our LLC Get a permit for our LLC to employ foreigners (ourselves) Get work permits to work for our LLC File LLC quarterly taxes and minutes with SAT (Mexican IRS) File personal taxes with SAT (Mexican IRS) File personal taxes with the US IRS (you still have to pay taxes to the US on all Mexican income) Pay yearly property taxes Get a building permit Get an occupancy permit upon completion of construction Pay large hookup fees for utilities (since we are commercial vs residential) Get a city business license Get a city hotel license Pass yearly fire marshal inspection of our property Pass yearly health and safety inspection of our property Now there are lots of people that just ignore everything above and start a business without following any of the rules, and if you can stay low profile enough you might not get caught. But if you have any kind of visibility in the community they are going to find you and then shut you down, fine you, etc. Being a foreigner you are a very big target because it is assumed that you have a lot of money and it will be worth their while to go after you. We have always done everything completely by the book and followed every rule and regulation.

That's a good idea, but it is also just one more thing to wash and get stained. Almost every guest leaves multiple stains and doing laundry and removing stains is the biggest expense when cleaning a Villa because it takes the most time. We often have to rewash and retreat our linens 2 or 3 times to get stains out.

For me retiring meant leaving my stressful corporate career. I tried the sitting on the beach thing, and if I had to do that every day for the rest of my life I would go crazy. I am happiest getting outside and building something or fixing something. The thing I hate the most is sleeping because it is the biggest waste of time that I could be doing something useful. Sitting in a rocker on the front porch would be hell on earth for me.

Not sure how much land is public but everyone hikes all over in the mountains here and I've never heard of anyone having any problems.

When we do a review of a single restaurant we always put in prices but it would probably make the video way too long to try to put prices in for a whole bunch of restaurants. You can always look the restaurants up on Google maps and find all the menus there.

We actually have a bidet toilet seat installed in our bathroom. I love it but when I showed it in an episode several months ago I got a very bad response just like this video. What is going to happen when everybody decides they are above doing the dirty jobs that keep civilization running???

City water fills my 5000L underground cistern and then I have a 1HP jet pump and pressure tank to pressurize the water coming out of the cistern. I have several videos showing the install of the entire system.

At least the french fries here are all fresh cut potatoes cooked in beef lard with a little salt. We like the environment here the best. Desert on the ocean. Also the free travel zone makes driving back and forth to the US easier. Permanent Residents can't drive US plated cars on the mainland. And lastly being in a small town with an international airport 7 minutes away.

The sex shop was a very quiet business and there was never any shady people hanging around outside. Not our thing but to each their own. I have heard that most of the strip clubs in Mexico are run by the cartel, but I'm not sure that applies to sex shops. We used to live near the most affluent city in Oregon and they put a strip club and sex shop right in our residential neighborhood. Parking lot was always full of porches and Bentleys. They even had a big gunfight there in the parking lot one night. So it is everywhere. As far as blood goes, you have to donate at one of the major hospitals in Baja California Sur, and you have to meet all of the Mexican requirements which are much stricter than requirements in the US. It really does look amazing..all of it. What I personally love, is the bougainvillea by your sign. That will look great as it fills in. We’re liking Loreto, it has a great vibe. Any idea how much your neighbour wants for the property next door?

The place has a different vibe than most places we’ve seen on the peninsula. It has a resort feel and is clean. People seem happy and are very friendly. It’s a gem. I've heard some great things about the islands. And my most recent visit was better than the first because the downtown wasn't as torn up and I could enjoy the entire area. Much cuter than I had first experienced. But it's still a little slow for me - I like having the "big city" nearby.

They just completed the last phase of the downtown construction. Loreto is a very small and isolated town for most people. Some people don't like the fact that you are a couple hours drive from the next small town and four hours to the closest city which is La Paz. The biggest complaint I hear about Loreto is that there is nothing to do here if you live here. That is exactly what we were looking for, so we love it but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
