I couldn't agree more. Every word you said is spot on Doug. Mexico is phenomenal. Weather, food, sweet people, cost of living. The analogy of our carefree childhoods in the 80s vs. what kids have in America today is for sure. My 19 year old son and I were having Italian food at Padrino's in San Felipe last month and he said, "Dad, look around. Not one person is on a cell phone." Unheard of in America. Fear of Mexico is preventing so many Americans from having a beautiful, affordable retirement. They sensationalize everything. Being afraid of the cartel in Mexico is analogous to being afraid of the Mafia in America. It is simply not a concern. My home is 4 weeks from completion. Takes a little courage to take the plunge and do it, but, for those of us that do, it's rewarding beyond belief. My friends are back home still driving those freeways, still sitting in that traffic, still going to that cubicle, working endlessly to pay bill after bill. Fear is keeping them on that hamster wheel and they'll never get off.

I've never met a person from the US or Canada down here that said they are sorry they came here. I think going "back in time" to a simpler time in our lives is a huge part of that.

Likewise we sold it all and moved to Mexico five years ago. We just felt the negative nature of politics in the USA and the increasing prices in California made Mexico an easy choice for us. Being from Northern California we spent a lot of time in Loreto and all over Baja so it was high on my list of places to consider. We ended up in Bucerias Nayarit, just North of Puerto Vallarta but part of my heart will always be in Loreto. It is a very special place, especially if you have a boat!

I love your stories! I spend Wintertime in Mexico, Usually Central Mexico where temperatures are a little cooler at night but always warm during the day... Spring/Summer I am here in Oregon at my home doing gardening and such... My next-door neighbor here in Oregon is helping me a lot with my Spanish as she speaks very little English. So, when I return in Winter to Mexico often, I surprise my friends there with better conversational skills. THANK YOU for everything you share! I agree with everything you say... and Actually I have lived for months at a time in one of the "heaviest" Cartel areas and YES there were some nasty conflicts, but they didn't involve me, and I didn't feel unsafe any more than I do when I go to Portland!!

It all depends on what time of the year. I don't have much experience in mainland Mexico, but for Baja Sur the best overall time to visit if you are looking for cooler temps would probably be December. High 70s to low 80s in the day and mid 60s at night, and the sea water will still be warm in the low 80s or high 70s.

It's rude in our village if you don't acknowledge people when you walk into a store or restaurant. Also when texting someone, you always start by asking how they are doing and wait for an answer. I forget this often and I'm politely reminded. Glad you are adjusting well 😊

    • @dooglassandesperanza

I have noticed that people often text a greeting first and then wait for a reply. Good to know that is part of Mexican etiquette. There are several little things like that. For example here it is rude to refuse something that is offered to you. I have gone to the store with Mexican friends who are working for me, to buy materials and supplies only to have them come out after me with a powerade for me. I know they have very little money, and I used to feel bad accepting the drink, but you have to or it is considered an insult.

So in our tourist town a beachfront houses start around 1 million. I'm not sure where you are but in LA or San Diego you can't get within a mile of the beach for that price. On the beach you probably start around 5 million. And there aren't even tropical fish snorkeling spots there. You would not find a 2nd row lot for 260k. We want to be in a place where the sea is over 80f for much of the year and above 65 year round. that rules out everything except maybe southern Florida in the US

The reason prices went high in Mexico is baby boomers moving there in droves, Simple supply vs demand. If you want cheap prices you need to get away from the G8 countries and there influence.

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza  2 месяца назад +1

True but as you find areas with less expensive real estate the standard of living usually decreases with the prices. For example you can find a 1 acre beachfront lot her in Baja Sur for under $100k USD in some places, but you might be hours from any civilization with no services and no cell service down a rough dirt road. Here in Loreto as you get out of town even 5 minutes you can buy a large lot on the beach for $150K USD. It all depends on how close you want to be to civilization and what amenities you would like to have easily available to you. I had a friend that used to go to Christmas Island in the middle of the Pacific to fish. Everything was dirt cheap there, but many trips they only had one or two options to eat (octopus or fish) for every meal, one type of beer, and water and that's it. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Something I've noticed when watching videos like yours on a nice sunny day, is that the sky have no "Che m tra ils"! You may laugh but this is a very high concern here in Canada and US and we have no idea what they are spraying. I'm actively planning to move to Mx for many reasons, including political directions here in Canada. I've looked at the US at first, a year ago, but changed my mind seeing that it's not much better politically. Enjoy your venture!

Well if you are looking to escape chemtrails don't come here. We are a little town in the middle of the desert 3.5 hours from any city and there are still chemtrails here regularly. The locals say the chemtrails began to appear about 5 years ago. Many people here believe they are responsible for many illnesses that appeared around the same time. The official response here is that they don't exist.

Jet planes burn Jet Fuel that is comparable to Diesel fuel, Commercial planes fly at around 40,000 feet about 7 miles up and it's very cold at that altitude temperatures range from -40 to -70 F (-40 to -57 C) The chemtrail is just a visible trail of exhaust from the planes engines just like following a semi truck on a cold winter, The plane is travelling around 600 miles an hour were a truck is doing 60 miles an hour so the plane is burning way more fuel than a semi truck.

Use the Flightradar app and when you see a plane making a chemtrail, look it up in the app. I do this often and they are almost never commercial flights. They are either military or planes with no registration. I'm not saying that it is nefarious, just unusual. Check it out for yourself.

I was born in Mexico. Crime isn’t a problem till it hits you. Latin America has the highest murder rates in the world, that stems from a corrupt political and judicial system. My dad and my uncle were stopped by army truck with a 50 cal on top, when they asked why they were stopped they were told they were speeding in a school zone, mind you this is in a desert, with nothing in sight. Since they were dirt poor the army guys left with nothing, but this stuff goes on routinely south of the border. As our political system becomes more and more corrupt, this is what we have to look forward to. California, Oregon and Washington are states I definitely dont feel safe in

Sorry you had that experience, but I have not experienced anything like that. We have driven back and forth to the US border many times. You go through 5 military checkpoints each way and they have never been anything but professional and pleasant. They have never stolen anything from us, even when we brought our RV down and it was searched at every checkpoint. We have also passed many military vehicles on the highway and never had anyone stop us outside of a checkpoint. There can always be bad apples, but that happens everywhere.

If that were true that we only moved because of prices, then we wouldn't be here because there are tons of lower cost of living beach towns in Mexico.

Yep 48,000 sqft (1.1 acre) and its 2nd row (600ft from the sea). I used to live in San Diego and a 1 acre lot this close to the water there would easily top $5 million. And I can walk 600ft down to the beach and snorkel in 80 degree water year round.
