Started to rewatch this show one year later. My God, the memories are flooding back. I'll never forget the time during the first lockdown watching this show comfortably in bed. What a masterful show. Good times.

@@Lunar_Pendragon Haha it is, it's people who are too immature to realise that it'll only inspire fighting. It's almost never "we broke up" , it's someone who has done the dumping and the other who is doing the hurting. Trust me I've tried being friends with my ex gfs and they can't handle it AT ALL, spesh when i meet new women.
The best way is to let them get over it, 1-2 years or however long, then you can be mates. But "hey we should be friends" after you've just broken up... Nah it's grow up time. It's stuff 19 year olds do because they don't know any better.
@@rungeon83 Fairly true unfortunately. It sucks because it's always a shame to lose interesting/kind people from your life even if you don't work out romantically. You can be mates with exes, but it needs to be at a distance where you'd be genuinely happy for them if they got married in a month's time or something. I.e. a long time after you break up.
@@andrewtucker94 I agree, I hate its that way, I have dated really well adjusted women, no drama just it didn't work out, it'd always be me who has to break it off which seems to make me the bad guy, and they always want to be friends but without space they'll treat you like a bf still, my ex was sending me dirty pics a week after we broke up.. I'm like nah that's not right and fight ensues, most girls give them a year or more for lads I wouldn't know as I only date women. But I think I'd need a year of I was dumped to move on and be ready for a friendship in future.
People want to be friends in the hope of getting back together, or tk taper of the other person slowly but ultimately you're just delaying hurt in my eyes.

In the novel Connel is shopping with Lorraine and she is the one that offers Marrian a ride home since it is raining. Connel drops his mother off first then drives Marrian home where they have this conversation.

@@mariamm7695 She's objectively an attractive girl. She isn't meant to be. IRL she would have been popular by default from the begining rather than the socially awkward outcast that they portray her as in this show. Not realistic.
shock jockey I went to school with her a couple of years ago and honestly do not remember her at all. She is average looking, and not memorable by any means. Because the camera focuses on her, we fixate on her looks more than we would if she were a passenger on a train or walking down the street.
Paul deserved all the acting praise he got, but my god Daisy is so so good in this series. Note perfect, nuanced acting.
Amazing. Loved this series. Had to watch it on my own because I didnt want to share it with anyone, not even my Husband!!! Daisy and Paul are just incredible. Wish they could do a program every day! Or at least every week!!!!!!!! Love them. Thank you xx

I loved this programme, it is so relatable on such a macro level
"let's be friends" never works, maybe a year or two down the line. it's very difficult seeing someone you were once so intimate with turn into an awkward friend, and eventually into a complete stranger.
Or worse, be with someone else while you still secretly have feelings for them. It is best to go no contact, recover, heal and move on for good. If you are meant to be friends, it can only happen once all feelings are gone, maybe in like 5 years. Hopefully by then you will realize you don’t even want to be friends them have better people in your life.

What a beautiful, intelligent women with maturity that belies her age! However, Paul Mescal was snubbed.
I saw my ex recently actually getting on the bus. I laughed so much. It was surprising how much seeing him lifted my mood. I didn't talk to him but I realized that if I could come out of that hellish breakup whole and strong then I could do really anything 😄

I almost always empathize with the guy in stories like this, even when they are villified, but not in this show. This guy was awful to this girl. She deserved a lot better from everyone.

@@nicolarollinson4381 From my point of view, I have seen many movies and TV series of this genre but Normal People has something extra. The actors play the chemistry between Marianne and Connell beautifully, and the plot is engaging. That is why it is one of my favorite series. I recommend it

I AM CONVINCED quite a few songs off folklore and evermore were inspired by the NP book/show. There's just no way so many songs fit into this story so well by pure coincidence.
