    I've talked about how to use automation before on my channel but I wanted to do a full automation tutorial for beginners who still might have questions. For example, how to do channel eq automation or reverb automation on your tracks and what is the difference between read, touch, latch, and write in logic pro x and what one should you use? There can be a lot of uncertainty when you're working with automation in logic but there shouldn't be and I hope to clear that up in this video. Once you master automation your tracks will start to feel alive and you'll notice a big improvement with your work. As always I reply to all comments so let me know if you have any logic automation questions.

    Thanks charles for the info, I have one more question: when I record strings, can I use automation to change the expression directly with a pedal instead of a fader? (expression of modulation of ....) thank you

  • @fergusryan1486
    @fergusryan1486 Год назад

    Nice one! Really appreciate your generosity and skill. Next question - are you looking into Sound Healing using the voice, because yours has all the qualities and you seem to have the temperament. Chloe Goodchild is a good starting point, or Wayne Perry's book 'Sound Medicine' - just a thought... :)

    thanks for the info, just wondering is there a way to control different automation parameters in different layers of inst. in logic pro ? for ex as you are arranging also record different automations with different layers at once?

    thanks, I can not get the automation to stay. AS I am doing the laugh or touch it woks. Then I change it back to read and play it and it dose not do it. Any suggestion as to what I might be missing?

    Is there a way to make the dB for precise? I find that when I drag the dots, they won't always land on the dB I want. For example, I might want my chorus on the master track to be 1.0db and the verses to be 0.0dB. The dots tend to always land at .9dB or -.1dB rather than 1.0 or 0.0. Is there a way to type these values in?

    How do you do this using faders?

  • @stevenblack552

    so a little new here did you say there are plugins that are easier than this and do all this automation for you?

  • @voodoochili12
    @voodoochili12 3 года назад

    Might be helpful to talk about best practices of automation. My understanding is that a lot of folks use the Gain plugin to automate volumes, instead of the master fader, because that makes it easier to use the fader to balance an already-automated track. Do you use this method?

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  3 года назад

      Yes, I use this method as well. You’re definitely right in saying that. I think it’s situational. Sometimes I’ll use the volume automation for tracks I know I won’t need to change much or if it’s something quick.

    Thanx! Is it better to use a mouse when you automate? I have problems with automation and I use the touchpad of my MacBookPro.

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  2 года назад

      It's completely a personal choice. I use both the mouse and a midi controller some times.

    Why are the nodes so difficult to add. I click on the line and nothing happens, so I have to click, and click, and click. Is there a keyboard shortcut to produce one?

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  Год назад

      hey ed, yes, that's a good rule of thumb. Whenever something feels so 'difficult' to add, there is always a way to do it faster in Logic Pro. Always. With automation, it's by using the marque tool. Draw a rectangle on your track and it will create 2 points for you. Move that line up or down it will auto create 2 more points for you .
