Bought the tool, watched your informative no BS video and it worked exactly as shown. In the past I tried cheaper pullers that never worked but made me actually invent curse words. Thanks Mike, it made my life a lot easier and the price is of no concern when you consider time is money.
They are a game changer for sure if you're doing more than one or two axles. And they're a life saver when doing one or two! You can't beat them.
You sir are a champ. I watch many of your videos. Learned a lot from you.
The price for knock off pullers has fallen dramatically, making it within reach for many. Of course the quality may slide but for occasional use they should be OK. The clever design to include that lower flange to protect the cage from distortion is interesting.
Thank you for sharing. That I was needing a hydraulic press but didn’t want to lose space in my shop. This will remove the differential bearings and I don’t lose space either. That’s win win for me.
I just used my brand new clamshell bearing puller for the first time while I watched this video. It worked like a charm! Thank you for such informative content.
They are a game changer!
@@TheBFHGarage absolutely!
Informative and great quality video.
Excellent video… Thank you 👌👌
Definitely going to invest in one of these when I regear my ZJ.
Hanks very informative video.
Полезное видео👍
Теперь все понятно в конструкции, спасибо!
Great video!
Just added that to my list of need tools. Have used the method you described with the dremel but this is WAY more civilized! Checked out the tool price, didn't think it was exorbitant. Excellent video!
Yeah the Dremel method works well but it sucks to do. The prices of clamshell pullers has come down a ton!
Another informative “how-to” video Mike! BTW, I watched your regear videos a bunch of times and got the confidence to regear my wrangler to 4.10 and put a new LSD in the front D30. Oddly, installing the front axle seals was the hardest part!
Glad the videos helped you!
I have the same puller setup and I’m having issue getting my pinion bearing off.. the black clam is just slipping offnot sure what I’m doing wrong your video has helped. It worked great on the carrier bearings
Hey Mike I pulled the trigger on regear for the tjr 4.88 after watching your regear videos started shopping bearing and bam you pop up....lol 😀 thanks
Awesome to hear! Good luck with the gear job👍
Great tutorial video! I am using this tool on my GM 12 bolt pinion bearing and I will have to modify one of the clam shells to fit the bearing properly. It is supposed to grab it by the bearing cage, is that correct?
Nice demo I think I would say the term for the “stem” would be a chub
I purchased a complete set of Yukon tools. It was over $5000 worth of tools through Yukon. I know that sounds crazy and I never would have purchased them but I purchased a Posi unit New in box Yukon with the complete set of bearings and shims to fit my 2004 GM truck for the grand total price of $230. Yeah it was a steal.
I purchased it from marketplace .
Anyway, when I went to pick it up, the guy had been drinking and he was quite young actually 30 years old he was showing me the truck that he had purchased it for but he had since totaled it then he showed me some tools that he had purchased to put all the bearings on And so force and so on and he said I need to make some more money. Do you need to buy any tools I have some that’s never been taken out of the plastic or any of the boxes so I look at all of his tools and it looked to me, he used to work somewhere that sold Yukon tools, gears units everything because he had tons of the stuff I purchased every tool he had from Toyota axles to Dana rear seals, pullers installers you name it he said because I purchased the rear chunk that he would let me have all the tools That I picked out for $100 bill. I have done mechanic work my entire life and I probably have $150,000 in tools but when you’re buying snap on Mac Mac and whatever it doesn’t take long but I didn’t know how to use a bunch of those tools but when I got home I figured everything up and I had spent $310 at his house because I actually got the tools for $80 and the carrier for $230
I never would’ve purchased these tools any other way, because I’ve always done it the old way and destroyed the bearing. I have presses and everything and I have the bearing separators.
Thank you for the video everything came with paperwork, but it didn’t really specify if it would hurt the bearing or whatever, and it was pretty self-explanatory how to do it, and you had to adjust your race tied against the bearing to keep from destroying the bearing . Again, thank you for your video.
Do you happen to recall what brand and model clamshell puller you are using in the video. Looks like a quality brand.
I traded a table for it from a buddy. He bought it on eBay from RCR.
I’ve really been enjoying your regear videos. Can you share a list of the tools you use ? Specifically this clamshell puller and race installer ?
The clamshell puller was bought off of eBay from RCR. The seal and race driver is a simple harbor freight kit.
Thank you sir
Is it correct to say that the outer race (cup) must be in place because the puller is acting on the roller cage instead of the inner race, and the rollers are pressing against the outer race (cup)? Is this necessary because the inner race is not protruding beyond the shoulder it's pressed against?
Correct. When you pull a bearing, you need to have the race in place otherwise it will damage the bearing cage.
You use a fertilizer with that thing? Nice to see ya again Mike.
Haha! I haven't posted in awhile can you tell?
I am really glad I discovered your videos! I have been afraid to do my own gears for years so, I end up paying someone else to do the work and they don't always do it right. I'm going to work on a D44 and a Chry 8.25 because the guys I paid didn't get it right. Anyway, your videos have inspired me to do the work myself! I love tools and would like to buy this puller you demonstrated. Would you please tell me the manufacturer and model number for your puller so I can buy one?
I traded for it from a buddy of mine. He got it off eBay many years ago from RCR.
I bought a replacement set from 4WPW (4 wheel parts wholesale) at a good price. My other one wore out after 15 years. Better hurry, they just got bought out by some wheel outfit. They are closing the main warehouse in Compton Ca. by the end of the year. (2022)
@@chuckgilly a new set of clamshells? Thanks
Where can buy it
Vevor makes a "good" chineasium one for around 100
Where can we buy that Bearing Puller Tool ?
You can find them all over the Internet. They're getting cheaper too.
Great explanation of the use. I have seen a number of videos on these and some guys actually use it incorrectly and it still works…. Lol
Can you use it on any vehicle
They have different versions for different axles.
Where the f*** can I buy it
I paid 95 dollars for mine same one as yours
I would not reuse this bearing. There is no way the cage is not deformed. A non issue as I would never reuse it anyway.
The clamshell puller is designed to NOT damage the bearing or cage! Perfect every time!
What brand is this tool. I see all of these say for Dana and not gm rears
I believe it was RCR. I traded for it
@@TheBFHGarage thank you
