Тормозной диск вообще-то хрупкий и ломкий, если опереть его на нервную поверхность и дать нагрузку этой стойки, то с высокой долей вероятности он треснет.
Самая устойчивая стойка из трёх ног. Уверенно будет стоять даже на неровной поверхности. А это, так... на ровном полу только использовать.
I work under cars all day every day - keeping them "up" is a necessity. I use 4 18" wide, 18" high cut rounds off a tree-trunk. Been using them 4 rounds for years now. I have a lovely shiny 2-post lift - that don't work for what I do - I repair rust, so the lift is almost always in the way of what I want to get at - so the lift gets little use. The lumps of wood do. I sit the front lower balljoint bolt onto the wood so it sinks in - that'll never slide. The rears, I jam the timber in under the axle. Never gonna move.
If you don't fancy using lumps of solid wood (which work great btw) then buying axle-stands isn't exactly exorbitant - they're pretty cheap off the shelf. No idea why anyone would fancy making their own - they're peanuts to buy. But lumps of wood are safer - there's no chance of them falling over, metal on wood doesn't slide like metal on metal does & there's no welds to break or pins to forget/shear whatever.
If I'm in under a 2 ton jeep or a 5 ton bus - and I'm gonna be in under there all day today, all day tomorrow & maybe even a bit of the next day - I want to be sure it ain't gonna fall on my head. 4 big rounds of tree-trunk give me that guarantee. I still bang in 2 4 ton trolley jacks - one fore, one aft - just as insurance. If I was relying on a contraption I welded together, there would always be that niggling doubt - "Did I dun goof on 1 weld?"......
I do exactly the same Sir. I put a clutch in my Transit Connect van last week and supported it in the way you suggest using rounds cut from large tree trunks. I know people do use axle stands, but they never seem to be completely stable to me and I like to be 100% safe. Take care and good luck with all you do. David (Leeds, UK)
I have a variety of lumps of timber in my shop for supporting. The cars and vans . I’ve done this for decades and never once had a problem . I know I can trust them . Occasionally I use my stands but always leave my jacks in place also as I don’t trust stands as much as the blocks of wood . This is a great workshop safety tip .

I live in S. Florida, so I often have to bite my tongue when I see people beneath vehicles precariously supported by cinder blocks. Natural selection isn't always painless!

THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA!!!!! DON'T DO THIS PEOPLE!!!! YOU ARE ENDANGERING YOUR LIFE!!!!!! The brake disks are made of cast iron, which is an amorphous solid, and is in danger to break/shatter at any moment. It's like glas or ceramics. For this kind of thing you need steel, which has an crystallin structure.

I agree. When I’m under my 4600 pound car I want professional jack stands. Always I have more jack stand then required. When all four wheels are off the ground I have 4 6-tons jacket stands and another 4 3-ton jack stands up just in case.

Прикол в том что материал из которого изготовлен тормозной диск очень хрупок и он обязательно сломается при незначительном перекосе если поддерживаемое изделие покатится
Ему не надо практичнее, ему надо тормозной диск в описании обосновать... )
Тоже подумал о том, что тормозной диск чугунный и может лопнуть от боковых нагрузок. Да и толщина у него для подобных целей маловата, как для чугуна. Спасает только то, что труба опорается на пол и несёт на себе основную нагрузку.

При боковой нагрузке (к примеру при поддонкрачивании второй стороны) чугуняка может лопнуть в тонком месте. Интересно, но нужны испытания на излом.

I would worry about the disc. Over the years I have spent in the trade I have seen several discs shear from the centre due to wear or impact. so I think I would be a little nervous in case there was an uneven load on the base.

Я тоже хотел сам сделать, но не нашёл материалов и просто купил 2 шт. У меня они на трёх ножках, это практичнее. Можно ставить около домкрата, и устойчивость лучше.

I agree with you .
The brake rotor has been designed to hold the weight of the vehicle. The concern is at the weldment because cast iron can be brittle at the weldment.
I see that the bolts are for assisting the load and are in the correct location by design.
Also the steel pipe holds weight in the center from the car to the ground.
I may have used everdor rod or even silicon bronze as a weldment filler to avoid any brittle weldment

Podstawa z tarczy hamulcowej , czyli z żeliwa to moim zdaniem niezbyt dobry pomysł. Żeliwo jest kruche, a używana tarcza hamulcowa już swoje przeszła. Może być popękana. Jako zabezpieczenie samochodu w celu wymiany koła, to taki stojak na pewno się sprawdzi. Gdybym miał cokolwiek robić pod samochodem, to na pewno nie użył bym takiego stojaka. Wybrałbym wykonany w całości ze stali.

На неровно поверхности не будет устойчива,да и вес не малый.(как правило подставки имет 3 опорных ножки)
A idéia é genial, o problema não é como falaram nos comentários que os discos são de ferro fundido, não aguentariam o peso do veículo, etc, etc. Qualquer cavalete não é projetado para sustentar um veículo, ele sustenta 25% ou 50%. 4 deles sim, são capazes de sustentar 100% do veículo. Mas o grande problema desse invento é o custo de fabricação, a menos que vc tenha todo o material a mão, ou ser dono de um desmanche. Se for providenciar todo o material mais mão de obra para fazer, ou sai mais caro ou empata com o valor de um cavalete comercial.

1. A set of professional jack stands, certified to safety standards, are not very expensive.
2. The entire load is supported by a single bolt in double shear. This better be a very high quality bolt.
3. Power taping is a great way to break a tap.

Good idea. But the ground has to be absolutely flat. For the fixing of the bolt I would use a wing nut.
