Back on 74 is a song by Jungle. They currently have 104 million plays on Spotify and expect Ren's spotlight on it will boost that count a fair bit as well. Great reaction as always.
I found them due to Ren and LOVE them and their videos.
Yo. I accidentally saw The Police in a London club established by Phil Lynott, the bass player and leader of the band, Thin Lizzie (famous for "The Boys Are Back In Town", not their best song by a long way). Originally, I had intended to see Squeeze ( famous for "Cool For Cats" . I came to hate that song but that is another story. Anyway, they didn't turn up so this unknown trio came in their stead and the club was almost empty, just a few dozen of us. That trio was The Police and they were incredibly unique back in 1977. I just thought I would share that. Yo.

Or the time I saw Alanis Morrissette live at a club when she was 13. Those things stay with you and my examples where hardly the freaking Police!! 😂 ✌️ ❤️

@@michaelgoyettemusic I was fortunate to have an older brother who went to see all the cool bands and took his little 14 year old bro with him. Not the Police, though. I saw them on my own. I got to see David Bowie before he became famous and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac just before they split up. They were amazing. I have several far-fetched tales that I might share with you later. 😎👽👻💀✌

Has been since he was a teen... if you look for Trick The Fox's Mashup (Ren's first band) they mash up maybe a dozen-ish songs all in one track. It's a load of fun!

Name of that Band that does Back in 74 is named Jungle. I listened to a tid bit of the song first and was ehh was kinda to electronic for me. Anyway Then I saw they did a KEXP Live performance...They blew me away...They actually play instruments and they area amazing. They still use electronics but its a big band and each play an instrument plus use electronics at the same time some of them also play multiple instruments. I was impressed. Check out the last KEXP performance they did, they play Back in 74 in the set. Great reaction.

The backup singers & the falsetto of Back on 74 (a song I wasn't aware if) caught me somewhat off-guard.
I adored that he mixed the MIAB riff into his version (and I always adore it when he breaks into his Sting-like voice).

Yo Mike, great reaction as always. Back on 74 is by an English band called Jungle. What with Fred Again and now Jungle/The Police it seems Ren is focusing on UK bands/music. Maybe it’s his way of promoting them and getting them noticed particularly the lesser known ones. Either way I’m loving it as someone whose daughter went to school with Ren here on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey in North Wales 🏴. We’re so proud of him and everything he’s accomplished in spite of all the crap he’s had to deal with. Keep reactions coming Mike, I really enjoy your technical analysis.

I think A lot of the underlying bass during the song is playing ‘Message in a bottle.’
@@supertuscans9512 the bass played MIAB whenever the guitar did…..at least that’s what I heard in verse 2. I wasn’t listening to bass as closely as guitar though.

It’s really something for someone with your skill and background to say “I wouldn’t have thought of that.” There are many with less skill who couldn’t say that because they feel that it brings them down rather than propping Ren up. It’s such a pity but a testament to your character.

@@michaelgoyettemusic Dude. Just giving you feedback on the contents of your channel, if you care. You don’t HAVE to care. It’s your channel, you can do whatever you want with it.
But don’t try to make it look like I don’t appreciate REN’s musical genius just because I’m not personally interested in hearing the exact chords he used, or in seeing the reactor put the song on hold so that they can sit there (badly) trying to mimic what they just heard.
When I watch reactions, that interrupts the flow, for me. To me the original reaction should be about the general impression of the lyrics and musicality, and the emotional response, if any, that is inspired.
To me (TO ME!) more technical elements like unique chord progressions, rhyme schemes, and more nuanced elements of vocal technique (basically anything requiring a notable pause in the song) would be better kept for a re-listen at the end of the video.
That’s just me throwing in my two cents; it could be that the huge part of your audience is made up of fellow-guitarists who like reactions that turn into little personal jam sessions here and there.
Either way, do your thing, it’s your channel. My original post was really just trying to say that even though not all your content is for me, I find your personality and insights unique enough to give you some of the very little time I have to watch (the thousands of) reaction channels.

The quilt is a Canadian thing….it’s our key difference in immigration policy that separates us from the US’s Melting Pot….we use the term Quilt instead.

I do not have perfect pitch…. I only got the key first try because I could see his hand. From there it’s relative pitch and a couple lucky guesses. :)

@@michaelgoyettemusic I play piano very badly, my friend can play the Liszt Sonata so that keeps me grounded. I am amazed by Ren, I am really a classical buff but he had opened my eyes to these genres!!

Actually I think Ren could have dialled down the chorus depth a bit, but that's just me, I find it sounds a bit pitchy at that amount. It's pretty great though. I love the original Jungle - "Back on 74" too, reminds me of the early 90's rare groove scene in the UK, I had a lot of good times in that scene.
I set mine the way I do for a reason. 😂
No judgement though….the bass kept the pitch center enough that it wasn’t distracting.
I’ve only heard the track once and I was halfway through before I noticed I was on 1.25 playback speed!! 😂 I’ll need to take a closer listen for sure but I liked what I heard. ✌️
A minor detail of personal preference, I rarely use chorus and actually that's true for Ren too, so I think it might be the preset on the amp he's using just to get that Police sound.@@michaelgoyettemusic
