Transform Your Front Porch with These Easy Updates

Hi there friends, in today’s video I’m going to show you how I give our front porch a refresh. I made a video over a year ago showing how I painted the brick and built the wood slats to surround and cover the metal railing on our front porch. However I did a poor job at sealing the wood, so after a year of weathering it really started to show. The top boards needed to be fully replaced all together, but thankfully I was able to pressure wash the rest of the wood and bring it back to life. This time I sealed it with multiple coats of Total Boat Halcyon. The wood looks so good after the refresh. I also gave the bricks a little touch up paint in the heavy traffic areas and sealed the paint with Olympic water guard. Unfortunately our front door mat disintegrated and melted into the brick. So I had to chisel it off the brick and really do some extra touch up paint where the mat was.… Needless to say I won’t be buy that same type of door mat again. I purchased a new door mat with a rubber backing which I’m sure will hold up much better. I gave the planter box a refresh by taking the snake plant out and replanting it with succulents. I planted Erics favorite Flapjacks. I also made an additional planter box that I mounted our address on and hang it on the front of the porch surround. I’m super stoked with this quick and easy refresh. Now I’ll need to look at a few of my other old project that may also need a refresh. I edited this video myself (super proud) with Adobe Premiere Pro. I’ve learned everything thus far about editing via RUclips tutorials, and a little trial and error along the way. This was the first video I figured out how to add captions, which I’ll be doing moving forward.

I remember this project. Can’t believe it’s been two years and what not sealing it properly will do. I thought NY weather would be worse, but pure UV year round is worse than cold winters. I normally get 5-7 years on wooden stains and sealers. Looks great!!! Check back in a couple more years.
