“I diagnosed you in the first 30 seconds. Did you think you were talking to the paper boy?”
Everybody needs a therapist like this.
I’ve had several therapists in my adult, and adolescent years. When they play games like that they lose me. If one like this works for you, that is wonderful. I mean that. We all deserve the help that works for the individual.
One of the best episodes. It is a common theme in Sorkin's world where a therapist comes along to help one of the protagonists in need.
"The pilot's intention is to eject, fire a rocket launcher at another plane, and land back in his pilot seat. It'll be rad, sir."
I had a similar situation after Desert Storm. About a year after getting back, I started having really crazy panic attacks randomly. It was like this overwhelming feeling of doom, that just knocked the wind out of me and i would have to sit down.... and it happened very randomly. Turns out, there is a type of truck, that when it backs up makes a beeping noise that exactly matches the air alert warnings we had during the first weeks of the war. As soon as I put 2 and 2 together and realized what was causing the panic attacks, I no longer have them.
When I got back from Desert Storm, I was at the airport making a phone call, when they decided to test their tornado warning siren. Sounded just like an air raid alarm. I was on the deck, covering my head before I realized what was happening. Not a fun experience.
@@Me-cu8wr As far as I'm aware, tornado sirens are identical to air raid sirens, in some cases originally used for air raids and repurposed for tornadoes. The actions you're supposed to take for tornadoes and air raids are more or less the same, albeit with air raids usually having more urgency. I can understand why you reacted that way and how embarrassing it must have been.
When I lived in Alabama in the late 90's where tornado warnings happened multiple times a year, for some reason my family called them air raid sirens instead of tornado sirens. I've since realized how odd that sounds and now call it a tornado siren.
Out of curiosity, what is the type of truck?
@@jbuster9 I'm not sure the make or model, The original ones weren't near my house, but the ones that finally made it 'click' for me was a garbage truck backing up to the dumpster at my apartment complex. The final one, I was actually in bed, still had the attack, but was calm enough to figure out what was going on.
@@Me-cu8wr At that point in the war, we were still living in Saudi Arabia, I am pretty sure it was S.A civil alarms we were hearing. It wasn't like a fire alarm, it was a very digital sounding beep-beep.
Perhaps the greatest West Wing episode of all time, and Adam Arkin really nails what a trauma psychiatrist would do in this situation
Two things. One, I didn't know Alan Arkin had a kid who was an actor. Two, yes he nailed this part.
Adam's brothers Matthew and Anthony are also actors.
@@Elthenar You need to check out both Northern Exposure and Chicago Hope.
One of the best episodes. The breakthrough scene at the end is a top 10 scene in the series.
Reminds me of the psychologist character in MASH played by Allan Arbus. Already knows whats the problem, just need the patient to figure it out.
Dr Sidney freeman, on a lot of episodes. A lot of Hawkeye central character on mash. Plus Sidney keeps mentioning the bus. Hawkeye then breaks down and remembers lady didn’t kill a chicken. She killed her crying baby on the bus to save everyone 😪
This guy is walking down a street when he falls in a hole...
I love that little story so much. I tried to retell it to someone and could barely get through the friend part without cracking.
Long as I got a job, you got a job.
Remember without reliving…that’s quite a thing.
I still think this is the best single episode of television in history. I'm not being hyperbolic.
It's up there for sure
I AM.
Rosalyn. Northern Exposure easter egg.
The best President that the US never had.
His predecessor Andrew Shephard wasn't bad either.
Very true.
I am happy Adam came in from the forest and found a respectable job. I wonder if he still cooks like a world class chef
He has had some great roles!
And then Adam made him some schezuan noodles……lots of great acting chops in the Arkin family!
One of my favorite episodes.
One of my favourite shows. :)
This episode is just amazing.
Watching Arkin put it all together for the audience was some excellent television.
Noel is my favorite episode. It is the best.
Need the rest of the scene!!!! 😮😮
Great episode. Although I will admit that I had to ask if it was inspired by (or even copied from) the MASH episode with Pierce and the baby/chicken.
Having characters we grow to enjoy and admire oftentimes need help from a psychologist is a good thing, as it shows that it's an option and not something to be ashamed of.
Inspiration from Hawkeye's and Alex Keaton's therapy session episodes... maybe??? but Noel stands alone from them and significantly surpasses them.
Knock at the door and Josh's reaction Suggests PTSB! Been there Done That.
If you'd had it you would have known it's PTSD, not PTSB.
@@tomscott4438 Yeah, because typos mean everyone's lying
Painfully throbbing spider bite?
@@tomscott4438Based on how he capitalized the last part of his comment, I think he actually did mean "PTSB" -- Post-Traumatic Stress Been-There- Done-That.
@@nathanross5527 Look at your keyboard and notice where the letter D is relation to the letter B. 😯
re the interviewee: I could have been that soldier.
"Hey, where's Bob gone?"
How did you cut your hand?
How can an F-16 have 7 AIM-9 's ?
It's written like that to see if the viewer was paying attention
It’s a very very special f16
Multiple hard points.
Answer: Suspension of disbelief. (At least, that is what my English teacher used to tell me whenever something seemingly improbable happened in fiction.)
Two in the front, three in the back, and two on the roof rack.
Mr. Kruger is doing great
Leats talk about instead about when the 16:9 remasters on the streaming services are going to be released on physical media…..
the mind is a funny little thing
So what? I don't like coffee either.
Falcon? No, Viper. Viper is the name.
A good analysis of how one’s past events interact with your psychology. The clinician appears to have total recall of what Josh says. But Josh has little recall.
Biden is Bartlet in real life.
Don’t play with Jed name like that
@@GREATAMERICANRUGBY well he isn't Trump
@@TrekzoneMedia That's because Trump is better.
Bartlet is Clinton.
What makes the show a total fantasy is that it portrays a Demonrat that somehow knows how to do something
The Head Shrinker is an ANNOYING ass character.
So many insufferable characters on this show
Anyone in particular you want to share?
@@larrysmith2638 There's always some Trump-humper with an axe to grind at the bottom of these comment threads.
Even more off it
And yet we watch the show and rush to watch clips within hours of them being posted 🤷♂️
I agree, but that, being insufferable, (by definition) when done by awesome actors as WW had, that's what makes great characters in fiction. Believable and tolerable, in fiction and drama is boring.
