I envy your flat map. You are doing a fantastic job! This is exactly what I was talking about it my first series. Fun fact about Phoenixes grid. Starting in downtown Phoenix the roads are number 1st and 1 Ave going east and west respectively. Every 8 numbered streets is exactly a mile. And the city planners adjusted the grid size to account for the curvature of the earth! Crazy! All the arterials are perfectly north, South, east, and west. They still have other named streets in between the numbered ones but it makes it easy to navigate.
Growing up in Phoenix (1970's forward) and seeing the city change over time is really amazing. I-10 used to not connect through Phoenix, you had to take surface streets out to get to I-10 if you were headed to California. I didn't even realize this was a Phoenix inspired city, but as soon as I started watching, I was doing a double take because it looked so much like it. Great work so far, and now I need to go watch the previous episodes to see the beginning of the series.
If you're looking for "realistic" implementations of commuter rail, I know that Albuquerque and the SLC Metro region have commuter rail trains. The SLC one covers from Ogden to Provo, with a bunch of stops. Not sure on Albuquerque, but I've seen signage that made it look like it was headed to a number of cities on the north side of it.
Writing this with some trepidation and with tears in my eyes and fear in my heart. I realize that my problem will apply to only very few people and understand that as a channel grows bigger, there will be choices that increase its appeal to a large number of people at the expense of driving away a much smaller number of people, and I have come to expect and accept this. Here is my situation. I suffer from a fairly bad case of hyperacusis. In a nutshell, I can't handle multiple sources of sound input simultaneously; I perceive such input as physical pain. In videos, this typically means I am not able to handle speech overlapping with music (if the music is much quieter, I can turn the volume way down and manage; if they are comparable, I don't even try). One of the many things I loved about this channel was that there were distinct speech and music sections, speech for the main building parts, music for timelapses, intro and outro sections. Other CS channels I would love to watch, like City Builder, Timeister, and so on, are just not watchable for me. It was great that I had one cherished channel that was safe. I am now rather dismayed that a lot of the road building footage now has speech and music together. I skip over those sections and still am able to watch perhaps half of each video. But I fear that I might soon lose that too as the channel grows even bigger and "production values" continue to advance.
Thanks for taking the time to explain your condition to me, its something I've never heard of. While I reliase this episode was perhaps more heavily edited and switching between voice & timelapse music sections just due to the nature of it (Theres only so much I can say about a grid lol). Rest assured you'll still have your more clearly designated sections as to avoid saturating the media. Enjoy the rest of your day bud
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Thank you so much. What gave me the courage to comment in the first place was your usual closing request that we should let you know if anything in the video didn't work for us. You've just proven that that wasn't just something you said to sound nice, but you really do mean it. Much respect and appreciation.
@@cukka99 Wow, a lot of respect to you for explaining all this. You are probably already aware, but imperatur has only music, no speech, so maybe another creator who you could enjoy perhaps.
That diagonal road (grand ave) (us60) is supposed to be lined up as a 6 way intersection at all the main roads However most of them have been upgraded now to overpasses. They used to be all level 6 way intersections with level rr crossing aswell. Was headache as traffic flow grew so started upgrades in 2000s -present
Looking at this from a European perspective i can only pity Americans. American cities and road networks are designed so badly i feel depressed just looking at it. I feel for you guys.
I could watch you building with Farewell My Dear playing for day's on end, its wonderfully relaxing :D Loving Ilos and it's growing so fast, You might run out of map space before nodes this time round 🤣
I followed your pallaven save closely and enjoyed your creativity. I only dropped into Noveria here and there, that one was cool too. But here, with mods, you show that, as well as creativity and attention to detail, you are technically excellent. I'll be back following this closely, this episode REALLY impressed me.
I really love how each of the mile grids have a different design really looks good, gives each of them character. It will definitely be fun to see those grids get filled over time. I love that diagonal road that cuts through the grid in Phoenix and that crazy intersection with levels of height will surely be a good design to add here. Awesome video Egg. Great music also, specially the one here 16:00 and "Stay With Me" at the end. Blends so well with road expansion.
This series is really new territory every time for vanilla builders. There are so many options. I also love the inspiration and thought process being shown. Thanks for Ilos, Overcharged Egg!
Yes, Sir. Finally, Oh my god. It's been a while ago since the last time I Saw this series. My goodness and gracious. Wow, Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
You have very quickly become one of my FAVORITE CS players! I'm just fascinated with how you take inspiration from google earth and translate it into a close copy in your builds, just fantastic! Loved that rogue jeep cruising by in the grass as you built the first roundabout, so funny!
At 10:36, while in Node Controller, if the outline of a segment is red, it means it is too close to another node. For those segments, traffic will slow down to almost a stop and then resume speed. You might want to modify those so function prevails over form!
This episode is soooo appropriately named! I love it! You are really doing the Southwest and Phoenix justice, and I LOVE the Egg touch in every detail! I can't wait to see what you do with all these little neighborhoods and commercial areas. The diagonal arterial looks so good and flows so nicely through it all! I hope Shakey approves of everything, lol. Just a little suggestion on the diagonal arterial bridge. could use some pillars. Tip, either turn on/off collision and upgrade the bridge sections or add the pillars yourself. Can't wait for the next 50 episodes!!!! Keep em coming!

Great city, it's definitely coming along! I just wanted to mention though, that 200 units is actually approx. a mile in game not 100. A single square is about 26.25 feet, so x 200 that is 5,250 ft just short of a mile at 5,280 ft.
Don't take my negativity towards american city planning as critique towards this build! I absolutely love this series. That montage in the end was really awesome!
For the university, I think you should take a look at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. I don't just say this because I go there but I think there are some pretty interesting design choices the school implements that could help with your build. Great video btw!
I could see some "fancy" developer putting in a development where the roads look like kokopelli from the air, or the zia symbol (cross on the NM state flag).
U killed me dude.🤣 With the bridge where at first the 6way intersection was.. i was so close to pass out when u didnt line the bridge up haha But great work Love the series❤
Are there any park golf course assets you can download? That would be great for some of the parks. There is so many golf courses in Arizona and the southwest. Also fantastic job and series. Really getting the southwest vibe perfectly for this game! Also when you do the university builds I would highly recommend looking at GCU in Phoenix, ASU in Tempe which also has satellite campuses in Glendale, downtown Phoenix, and Mesa. Also U of A in Tucson is imo the best campus of the major universities in Arizona. Cheers to a great build.
Yes, I'm sure theres a little modular golf set on the workshop, for sure we'll need a few golf courses! The main suburban campus will be based off of the one in Tucson, but we will certainly have 3 large campus spaces with the size of this map! Thanks for the suggestions. Glad you're enjoying it :)
The diagonal arterial bridge looks good, however I think the curves are a little too tight. With network multitool you can change the radius of the curve before you actually build it ;-)

This series is amazing but one thing I've noticed is you have your parking lots oriented wrong, the lanes should run perpendicular with the main store not parallel like they are now
Being an European, the philosophy of US Roads just doesn't feel right to me, like the overpass where you had 6-way crossroad, the way the train cuts in mid of the city avenues etc. Seems like a fun series tho, something new for me, trying to understand the way US Roads work and the thinking behind them
most parking lots run perpendicular to the stores allowing the shoppers to safely walk to their cars. however, you most always draw in your parking lots as parallel. please fix. thank you. =)

"Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads!"

Ilos drivers are just different mindset. They did this on the BowTie intersection too.
