    I just got city skylines about a month ago and made my first city look like something out of a tum Burton film. I watched a few different videos before I found yours, but you're by far my favorite. You want cities that function well but look amazing! I've learned so much from this series and I love how my city looks. Thanks for all the awesome videos!

    The diverging diamond will continually back up due to having stop points and junctions either side.
    You’d be better off with a dumbbell interchange and removing the junctions so they exit out further down the road.
    Road hierarchy is key in this game.
    The city is looking beautiful, but the efficiency of your interchanges will let it down if you continue to ‘Americanise’ them.
    I play on a PS4 and I can get 91% traffic on a 135k city using roundabout interchanges, like the ones used on the A1(M) in the UK, and minimal public transport.

    • @CityZilla

    Yep, as others have said, your diverging diamond created a worse backup than the simple interchange it replaced. You might like it better, but look at 19:15 vs 8:00. Definitely more red and longer queues afterward. That could definitely be helped with mods to force proper flow through the DDI, not sure I would ever be able to fully trust a vanilla DDI
    Fully agree with the bit about added access though. Even though you made the interchange worse, your traffic overall improved after giving your citizens other options further down the highway

    When it comes to pedestrian flow, I've found the best option to be underground walkways. No massive bridges, you can even set up a whole underground grid if you want and have them pop out in a bunch of places. Works amazingly well. Just make sure to use some sort of road correcting tool to remove intersection walkways.

      Probably works great in-game, but IRL people tend to avoid underpasses, because it's a great place to get stabbed.
      The exception is when the underpass has good sightlines from outside, or if it's some kind of underground mall. It's also preferable to keep pedestrians/bikes closer to ground level and make the road do some of the climbing.

    • @ghostflames1501
      @ghostflames1501 Год назад

      @@princekamoro3869
      Completely agreed. I thought of making a massive underground pedestrian park, where every 'exit' to the walkways were park entrances. Keeping the price low, I could still make a mint off the density alone and the abundance of entertainment would also be amazing since I tend to set my residential areas in a large offset grid pattern and that dead space in the middle becomes useful at that point. The underground areas are simply for traversal, white all the fun spots are for the actual tourism and crossing all that dead space.
      If it was real life, my city would be horrible because of the literal miles of tunnels and incredible lack of above ground walkways. Everything empties out to the sidewalks from metros, busses, trams, intra-city train and even an airport. Definitely lessens the traffic stress. In real life? I'm not sure what area on the planet would be able to handle that type of workload.
      If I was to have the ability to do this IRL, I'd probably have as much of the walkways open to the air. Except for the parts that go under the buildings or roads, they would be in nine foot deep trenches or the like. Stairs or elevators or the equivalent would be used to lead the sims out of each of these grottos. Being exposed to sunlight and having access to the upper world would reduce the chances of any harm to the citizens, at least slightly. Limiting the amount of tunnels and maximizing the amount of ditches also lessens any threats. We would have to worry about water during rain or weather issues, but that would be a problem no matter what.
      What do you think? I can't exactly make underground pedestrian ditches in vanilla, but if I could...I'd do this in a heartbeat.

    • @princekamoro3869
      @princekamoro3869 Год назад

      @@ghostflames1501 Doesn't vanilla still have terraform? You could use that to build a pedestrian trench (-4m), and road embankment ramps (+4m) on either side of the trench. That sounds like it could be awkward and bulky though. It would only make sense at major road crossings. Complete overkill for local streets. If building some sort of curvilinear park, the local streets should not cross it at all, and the park could come back up to grade for longer stretches between major road crossings.

    One thing I noticed is that you placed farming industry right next to that diverging diamond interchange.... Farming industry is notorious in generating LOTS of traffic and if you look closely.... a lot of traffic on that diverging diamond are trucks, and I would be interested to know if they go to/from the farming industry area. I always build my farming industry a little bit outside of town, give it its OWN free on/offramp, and have a connecting road to town that has a warehouse or two in the middle..... it will deliver goods to the warehouse, and then take from the warehouse as commercial industry needs it. Sometimes I build my farming industry really really far away, and build a goods train line between there and the city that needs the goods, and place the receiving cargo train station in the city strategically so it will have options to deliver in all directions without too much traffic trouble. It's also good to have at least a warehouse with commercial goods at the receiving end.

    • @CityZilla
      @CityZilla  2 года назад

      I normally will redevelop my initial industrial areas once the city becomes bigger because of the problems they present. I think your right with putting them farther away. That works much better.

Between the lack of understanding of roundabouts and potentially the most ridiculous junction ever conceived it's no wonder the US is so competent at road-kill!!!!
