Dude.... This boss is the culmination of a genuinely amazing area in the DLC. It's honestly terrifying, and you really feel as though you've stumbled across something dark and eldritch that you shouldn't have. The land can feel you, it can hear you, it can see you, and it Does Not Want You There. Even Torrent can sense it. The dark, sprawling lands with very little to find, coupled with..... THOSE Enemies, gives you a very clear message: "There is nothing to find here. You would be wise to leave lest you get lost and the land Takes you" Even this specific beat at 3:43. You recognize that right? It's the same song the merchants play while trapped under the Capital with the Three Fingers. Only this time it isn't sad, it isn't mournful, it doesn't speak of grim resignation to their fate. Instead it speaks of malice, it speaks of retribution, it speaks of utter sadistic glee. It's as if the Merchants are here as well, watching with unsuppressed vindictive Pleasure as their lord takes a smidgeon of revenge against the golden order by brutalizing and killing one of its champions. You had your chance to walk away, to turn back and put this place behind you. But you persisted in your morbid curiosity; and in the depths of your foolishness, you have sealed your fate. It's. Utterly. Terrifying. And I Absolutely Love It.
What makes this even worse and tragic, is that the blame falls entirely onShabriri. He knew exactly how trigger happy Golden Order was against other outer gods, especially one so dangerous as frenzy. So he knew exactly how they would react to this lie....
@@chrisspyroman It's telling that the lord of Frenzied Flame fights as though he's dancing. The theme that we hear comes from the Tarnished's horror at what they've stumbled across. But the Lord? He doesn't hear the horror. He's twirling and pirouetting to a procession of pleading, a symphony of screams, and a choir of cackling. The lord is dancing to the tune of his own concert of chaos, and he's enjoying Every single moment of it. And if you defeat him here? So what? There are millions of Tarnished, plenty of them are bound to be tricked into taking the flame; and even more who will accept it freely despite knowing what it is, and what it means. The Lord of Chaos is eternal. No matter how many times we thwart him, or how many of us strike him down, he only needs one of us to fulfill his vision; and considering most of us have gotten the Frenzy ending at least once, he is ultimately successful.
The delivery of that line is so good. The anger and desperation in his voice and attacks is a perfect setup for what you're about to unleash upon yourself
The buildup to the boss is almost as good as the boss itself. All the anticipation as you go deeper and deeper underground, torrent gets too scared to be summoned, horror creatures stalk the paths, and you just come across a single mansion with (what I assume is) the guys dead wife before the boss room, the empty room with the impaled lord in it, and of course the cutscene. It's just all hype and the boss lives up to it.
This area takes on a whole new meaning when you are the champion of the frenzied flame. It becomes like a home of madness that welcomes you in an eerie manner. Then it culminates in a display of what you will become. Beautiful.
I felt this bossfight, the entire area, because of the music. It's so indicative of a spiral into madness. Either a slow droning, or a wave-like pulse that drives you deeper and deeper.
Reminds me a lot of Micolash's theme. I didn't think a song could sound even more like spiraling into insanity than Micolash's theme, but man Midra topped it. I can't get enough of this song.
This theme is from a weaker vessel for the frenzied flame...imagine what the player would be like...and who tf is melina that she isnt even scared but even wants to kill us 💀
Melina is Messmer's younger sister, is burned and bodiless, her purpose is to serve as kindling to burn the erdtree... That's about it I guess? We still don't know shit.
Melina is full of hot air. Ain't anything even remotely showing her as capable of facing the Tarnished who could beat Maliketh, Godfrey, and Elden Beast all back to back.
People rightfully pointing out 3:44 but I'm fairly sure 0:48 is part of the regular merchants song. And honestly if that's the case it makes perfect sense, the song that is familiar to us in a positive way makes way for one we have a much more negative association with and similarly Midras first still contained phase makes way for the true chaos of the frenzied flame with his second phase.
Gives me chills. Because this time it isn't sad or mournful. It sounds triumphant and sadistically joyous. As though the merchants themselves are present and watching with glee as their lord brutalizes the Golden Order's greatest puppet.
Im so glad that i discovered this boss by myself, the entire experience of having to first go to a random coffin, to then go to a catacomb, to then have to go through all of the abyss with its unique mechanics and frenzied flame loot, and just finding this broken mansion, and this guy which we saw on the trailer, turning into the lord of frenzied flame, with this music. And even then, the rewards for the fight itself, the weapon is a holy damage faith greatsword, a weapon of the Golden Order, not of the frenzied flame, in contrast to the incantation, which is the biggest incantation of the frenzied flame. For me, best experience of the DLC, in just raw bossfight Messmer probably is better, but the entire experience is amazing.
Genuinely my favourite fromsoft boss. Perfect music and atmosphere alongside a formidable challenge without the need for super flashy moves like waterfowl.
God I dont get the emotions depicted in music alot when music analyst talk about the math behind music because I'm an unfeeling and unintelligent shrew. But the tone here... I feel Disturbed. I feel a Horror. That I'm looking at something Truly Terrible Beyond My Comprehension.
that's the concept of the frienzed flame,it's cruel and disturbing, that appears through the darkest moments of an individual, turning them even crazier than before, just like vyke and leyndell's merchants
I just wish we had gotten his head as a new helmet, perhaps retroactively after the frenzied flame ending, also 1 madness incant is a bit lackluster (but at least the frenzied flame didn't get as shafted as black flame and the giants flame)
Idk what i feel when i hear this music than just....it feels fucked up, like, disturbing. It really makes you feel like you messed up even coming here.
People say Caelid was horror.. poor fools have no idea about Abyss. I am not a very easily scared man,but that place was genuinely disturbing, both that it firstly incredibly find the route, you are stopped by an inquisitor, a man of faith, the last one not tainted by frenzy in that entire place, as everyone else shoots frenzy at you. The place has no sunlight, torrent refuses to be summoned, you get disturbing messages straight up begging you to leave. The land is physically scarred from frenzy, which anyone who knows ER lore is the most insidious thing in ER as it feeds on people who lost everything. Every single animal in there has frenzy eyes, the music is genuine horror as you quietly try to tread your way through it and then, at the end, you find a man, whose wife passed away. And so he's left sitting,in that big room, forced to endure the agony of that blessed branch, all so that frenzy doesn't get released. "Please... Enough, i endured more than enough". And so, like many others, he couldn't bear it any longer and gave up....
They gave us the BASE drop and it was magical. New favorite boss theme and boss achieved. Loved it. Atmosphere was incredible in the woods and the horror stealth theme of the segment was super unique. Loved it ❤
Anyone else catch the use of the psaltery in this track? Easily the best boss in the DLC, still haven't beaten him yet and that's totally fine with me because i get to hear this again
Its also crazy to think that not only does this happen to us in the frenzied flame ending, but Melina herself made a vow to kill us afterward. I can't imagine how that would play out. By extension this would kinda be our own theme wouldn't it?
I beat Midra only with parries. It would be cool if he was invulnerable to normal attacks like the enemies in the forest in front of his estate. A boss that can only be overcome by parrying - difficult, interesting, original idea.
Hiding something as significant as this behind a completely random and unindicated wall means that the players will lose a plenty of time checking every single wall AND this entire location because NOTHING tells you there is a hidden wall there. Also, did they intentionally subvert our expectations in the trailer in some places, or was taking torrent away a genuine last-minute decision just to mess with us?
