It was so heartbreaking to fight Freyja, Hornsent and Moore. But I was relieved hearing Ansbach and Thiollier by my side. This is hands-down the best NPC fight Fromsoft has ever done.
@@josephbulkin9222 if you get to the point where Leda is suspicious of the Hornsent, but then enter Messmer's boss room before interacting with their summon signs, it skips the part where they fight and she remains at the cross outside Rellana's arena until Messmer is dead and the summon signs in the Shadow Keep will disappear. once Messmer is dead, she'll have dialogue saying that with his object of obsessive revenge vanquished, she has no reason to distrust him anymore. i imagine that if you assist him against Leda, it plays out the same, where she forgives him and fights alongside him when you reach the room. although i think if you help Leda, he dies there and is not part of the final encounter.
To be fair, Leda doesn't summon him. Hornsent is a rogue spirit who can damage everyone. His obsession with revenge, held back by Miquella for so long, has driven him entirely insane. He will kill all Tarnished, deeming it the only true way to get revenge
Moore: "Miquella the kind will help us forget". Somehow the one character clearly written as a simple-minded is the one who knows, and tells, the unsettling truth as clear as day. Ansbach: Casually is respectful, ominous, thoughtful, as resolute as Leda and as war-junkie as Ishinn AT THE SAME DAMN TIME Leda: Talks so ambigiously she makes it impossible to tell if she is sorrowfully going after her former comrades OR taunting traitors in passive-agressive disdain and hatred. Thiollier: "Not the finest blade, not the mightiest armor..." Player: after all his journey, even now bro just can't help but downplaying himself a little Thiollier: "...will spare your life from the poison of Thiollier!" Player: HOLY FCKING SHIT THE SELF-CONFIDENCE Almost everyone: "I don't want to do this. This is heart-breaking. But given the stakes, you can be assured I shall murder my way through all of this. Moore again: "Sad, forever?.." My god, no wonder Fromsoft almost never allow npcs to have dialogue with each others. When they do, it leaves a mark on you for life.
I fucking love Ansbach and he's still my favorite, but goddamn if it Thiollier's character progression didn't make me feel a type a way. Even more so when Ansbach; a renown warrior who has accomplished much in his life-time as a well renowned noble and general to Mogh, was the one to give Thiollier praise. I only wish Thiollier heard his kind words, perhaps he doesn't need too anymore. A man who was beaten down by life to the point where he was too scared to die but suffered too much to live. A man who simply wanted an ever-restful sleep and a purpose for his life. It was only logical for him to chose St. Trina as his purpose. And for the first time in Thiollier's life, he had a purpose to see through till the end. A purpose we found for him.
Moore is universally depressing and I just wish I could hug him. All of his friends die or leave him, or he has to be killed by the only people he could still call his friends. I need a hug taunt for my little oxidized copper man
I was using Dryleaf Arts exclusovely throughout SotE, so while Ansbach and Thiollier kept Freyja and Leda occupied, Dane and I went toe to toe. It was almost like the "master vs student" fights you see in martial arts movies. He taight me to use rhe Dryleaf arts, and then I used them to kill him.
This is one of the best fights Fromsoft has done in soulsborne games simply because they had an assortment of characters throughout the DLC fleshed out beautifully, and the track to back the sentiments thrown back and forth, beautifully done
Its really crazy how they fleshed out so "many" characters with rather few lines and in this little time of the dlc playtime The npcs of the Base Game almost seem shallow in comparison imo
Leda: Throiller I seem to have a poor judgment, about you or perhaps St Trina Throiller: *You have no understanding… Of kind Miquella, of St Trina’s love. Not the finest blade… or the mightest armour.. will spare your live. From the poison of Throiller* 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
One thing I hope they learned from this DLC is to make NPCs more vocal. I don't think anything makes them better than having them actually talk when things are happening. Igon screaming with every last drop of his being during Bayle, Hornsent hating Messmer, and the battle where friends have to be at each other's blades because of their goals. All of these were made infinitely better by having everyone just finally TALK.
What's even more heartbreaking - they all respect each other deeply. They were really united for some time and found common goal, despite all their differences. It's like growing up when one day you have to go separate ways from your family to chase your goals. They don't want it but know it must be done. And FromSoft managed to convey it with just a few lines of dialogues. Compared to other games it's really sparse yet it's filled to the brim.
God I'd absolutely love a more NPC focused FromSoft game, where just like in this DLC, we can see all the different factions interact with each other and affect the outcome of their battles. I do appreciate the isolated journeys of NPCs i nthe base game but seeing them all interact and fighting for their own goal is honestly so much fun!
"I am deeply sorry...for doubting you. I am here only to grant St. Trina's singular wish." "I will stop Miquella the Kind. He will never become a god."
This is so refreshing from the empty, celebrity driven VA that has taken over so much Hollywood animation / films. These are professionals and a far level above and it's so obvious.
Thankfully I got the full free-for-all on my 1st blind playthrough. Goddamn it was the hypest thing I've ever experienced in souls. And I never expected Thiollier to deliver such badass lines
i love how human feels this NPC battle, despice of being two bands battle you can tell how everyone is just fighting under is own beliefs and interpretations of who is Miquella. Some npc like leda and dane simply cannot change their mind, but in case of Moore and Freyja the best for him its just stay with miquella cause it align with their goals. And in case of Ansbach and Thiollier they help us for their own purposes
These characters are probably the finest Fromsoft ever developed and their from a DLC. I really bonded with them and knew from the start it would not go well for some of them.
If someone told me an npc gank fight would have been the peak of the dlc and prime Radahn was one of the worst fromsoft bosses ever I would have lost my mind
@@alessandrodebonis4888Whoever says that Radahn is the worst Fromsoft boss is high af because we have such contenders as Bed of Chaos, Ancient Dragon from DS2, trio gank fight from DS2, double Gargoyles in ER. He is not even close to being the worst in my opinion
The drama of this moment... How did From knew I'd meet and understand all these people? Leda, you follow your Lord into godhood, but have you wondered if it is really your choice? You've been to the crosses, and seen everything Miquella left behind to ascend. Is there anything left of the Kind Miquella you're sworn to? Freyja, Radahn is dead. He died a warrior, like he deserved. Bringing him back, on the corpse of someone else, to serve a Lord he didn't choose, would he want that? Do you want that for him? Hornsent, we fought Mesmer together, we avenged your people... But once you get a taste for blood, you just don't care who it comes from. It won't stop with me. Sir Moore, you fight to forget the pain, but it is that pain what drives your caring nature. Would a kind Lord take your kindness away? Master Dane, there's no need for words. I've met each of you as allies and friends. If lordship requires suffering, I accept the price. I am to become Elden Lord. I herald a new age. The throne will be mine.
Ngl, when i walk in the arena and saw Leda, i was like; huh, so here we go again, another typical fromsoft sad npc fighting ya? But the moment when every npc start talking and interacting with each other, the whole fight easily become my favourite and damn, it was epic!
I love this fight, if you do it alone, it's like you are the boss here and Leda and her companions must defeat you, and if you do it with Ansbach and Thioller it is a fight between companions with different ideals, really a wonderful idea for a combat against npcs
"I am Sir Ansbach of the Pureblood Knights. I stand with blade aloft, blood afire. For the dignity of my lord and master Mohg." This is the ABSOLUTE best of Fromsoft's NPC fights. I legit had tears during the whole fight. This might've been even more emotionally charged than the final boss. Final boss was epic, but THIS. This was so emotionally charged that I just can never hate this fight no matter how much anybody tries to convince me otherwise.
The fact that the two heros that stand with you, one being dex/arcane/faith for Ansbach, the other being dex/arcane/int for Thiollier, has to be some sort of point that Miyazaki is trying to make about building as such
Having all of them reminiscing about their times together, not wanting to fight each other and working against/with you made this fight hit 10x harder.
I can't say much more than what's already been said, but man this fight was epic.... Getting to give Freyja a proper battle, one against the Pureblood Knight Ansbach at that. Feeling fury at Hornsent's self righteous behavior after learning what he and his people did to Marika's. Sadness and reluctance to fight Moore due to his naivete, and renewed strength at hearing Thiollier not only apologize to us, but feeling his new resolve to help fulfill St. Trina's wish to save Miquella. Mutual honor towards facing down Dryleaf Dane after learning from him, and facing down the Oathbound Knight, Lady Leda and her dedication to Miquella..... It just was such a beautifully done fight, Cinematic in every way alongside my spirit summon, Tiche,, leader of the Black Knife Assassins...
Didn't know Hornsent could play a role in this fight since i killed him in the ancient ruins of Rauh. Also Dane's last words really took me off guard during the fight
That should mean you summoned him to defeat Messmer, as Hornsent invades you in Rauh right before fighting Romina. If you don't summon him to fight Messmer and he survives his whole quest, he allies himself with Leda.
@@Gmaster124 summoning Hornsent to defeated Messmer is what triggers the invasion before Romina. If you kill him then, he won't appear in the final fight.
People who say this is the worst boss is probably because he didn't give a shit about the NPC quests, this fight is simply epic, although the combat itself isn't the best but the feeling that comes from having to face those you saw as allies and fighting side by side with others produces a feeling that no other boss gave me... that added to the music and the NPC dialogues undoubtedly make for a pretty epic battle.
Freyja was the only one I was looking forward to fighting. Its a bit difficult to explain, but as I respected her as a warrior, and looked forward to when we would be fighting together or against each other. It for some reason felt right to fight her. Edit: Thats not to say I didn't enjoy the fight overall, its just that fight her was the highlight for me.
Her fight man, it made me sad. She was the one I was hoping we would charge straight into the final battle with. When she said "this is our moment. Let's make it something to remember" It felt like an old friend telling me to smile and to honor her with battle. 😭 Edit: Oh yeah she bows to us in her death pose. I think she accepted us as lord in the end.
These voiceline edits are fantastic. DLC has a lot of controversial elements, but handling of major NPC quests has honestly been a knock out of the park in terms of improved across-board quality, and I hope the standard stays raised to this level in future games.
Miyazaki made this fight so people who whine about "summoning means you didn't beat the boss" will miss on one of the best fight narratively, and you can't change my mind
The fight was so hectic that I missed some of the lines later on in the fight. The exchanges between Thio and Leda, as well as Ansbach and Leda in particular. I would say I kind of like this encounter more than the final battle in some ways lol. Makes me hope FromSoft takes this more NPC/party member centric approach in their next game, whatever it ends up being.

It was so heartbreaking to fight Freyja, Hornsent and Moore. But I was relieved hearing Ansbach and Thiollier by my side. This is hands-down the best NPC fight Fromsoft has ever done.
It is odd that Leda and Hornsent are fighting alongside each other, considering what happens when Miquella's great rune breaks.

@@nyankant8008For real? Anyone have footage of that? 🤔
Well, a kick to the face is worth a thousand words.
@@13Kr4zYAzN13 You have the lines in this very video
Moore: "Miquella the kind will help us forget".
Somehow the one character clearly written as a simple-minded is the one who knows, and tells, the unsettling truth as clear as day.
Ansbach: Casually is respectful, ominous, thoughtful, as resolute as Leda and as war-junkie as Ishinn AT THE SAME DAMN TIME
Leda: Talks so ambigiously she makes it impossible to tell if she is sorrowfully going after her former comrades OR taunting traitors in passive-agressive disdain and hatred.
Thiollier: "Not the finest blade, not the mightiest armor..."
Player: after all his journey, even now bro just can't help but downplaying himself a little
Thiollier: "...will spare your life from the poison of Thiollier!"
Player: HOLY FCKING SHIT THE SELF-CONFIDENCE
Almost everyone: "I don't want to do this. This is heart-breaking. But given the stakes, you can be assured I shall murder my way through all of this.
Moore again: "Sad, forever?.."
My god, no wonder Fromsoft almost never allow npcs to have dialogue with each others.
I feel sad for Thiollier and Moore, they sound extremely pained that they have to fight one another
Moore is universally depressing and I just wish I could hug him. All of his friends die or leave him, or he has to be killed by the only people he could still call his friends. I need a hug taunt for my little oxidized copper man
@@icetide9411 Ikr, it's like Miyazaki looked at Seigmeyer and said: "but what if he was... Depressed"
@@deazee2288 It's sad because depression leads to hollowing in the Souls universe... and he hollowed out if you help him too much in his questline.
And now you've earned his own footwork
Moore breaks my heart, every damn time.

Finally, the correct version of the song
"This is our moment. Let's make it something to remember." Gave me CHILLS
This is one of the best fights Fromsoft has done in soulsborne games simply because they had an assortment of characters throughout the DLC fleshed out beautifully, and the track to back the sentiments thrown back and forth, beautifully done
Its really crazy how they fleshed out so "many" characters with rather few lines and in this little time of the dlc playtime
The npcs of the Base Game almost seem shallow in comparison imo
@@nuke1863 they really do...god i feel so bad for moore final words : (

Like Freyja said, FromSoft really did something to remember. I loved that fight. So emotionnally charged and epic at the same time.
“Now my blade, watch closely.” Badass asf
Leda: Throiller I seem to have a poor judgment, about you or perhaps St Trina
Throiller: *You have no understanding… Of kind Miquella, of St Trina’s love.
Not the finest blade… or the mightest armour.. will spare your live. From the poison of Throiller*
🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
St Trina told him to lock in and he immediately turned into a giga chad
One thing I hope they learned from this DLC is to make NPCs more vocal. I don't think anything makes them better than having them actually talk when things are happening. Igon screaming with every last drop of his being during Bayle, Hornsent hating Messmer, and the battle where friends have to be at each other's blades because of their goals. All of these were made infinitely better by having everyone just finally TALK.
Lord of the Erdtree... LORD OF MARIKA
We get to see a good amount of that in Armored Core 6
@@namirakira7138 siiick, been meaning to play that once it goes on sale, thanks!
Killing Moore and Freyja broke my heart and I saw it coming that it would end in a horrible way for these characters in traditional FromSoft fashion.
At least Freyja wanted to die in battle, if anything she has the happiest ending.
"I am deeply sorry...for doubting you. I am here only to grant St. Trina's singular wish."
"I will stop Miquella the Kind. He will never become a god."
2:26 the music synced with this Thiollier dialogue is just chef kiss
This is so refreshing from the empty, celebrity driven VA that has taken over so much Hollywood animation / films. These are professionals and a far level above and it's so obvious.
Been this way since 2009.
Thankfully I got the full free-for-all on my 1st blind playthrough. Goddamn it was the hypest thing I've ever experienced in souls.
And I never expected Thiollier to deliver such badass lines
Ansbach: You have my blade.
Thiollier: And my poison.
Mimic: And *your Axe!*
i love how human feels this NPC battle, despice of being two bands battle you can tell how everyone is just fighting under is own beliefs and interpretations of who is Miquella. Some npc like leda and dane simply cannot change their mind, but in case of Moore and Freyja the best for him its just stay with miquella cause it align with their goals. And in case of Ansbach and Thiollier they help us for their own purposes
Really drives home the name of the song. "Those united in common cause."
So it's basically an Armored Core 6 battle. It's beautiful.
Fr some of the fights in armored core were hard because our how much I couldn't see the screen.

These characters are probably the finest Fromsoft ever developed and their from a DLC.
I really bonded with them and knew from the start it would not go well for some of them.
Peak Souls here man.
Haven't actually beat radahn yet but for me this was the emotional climax of the dlc for sure
If someone told me an npc gank fight would have been the peak of the dlc and prime Radahn was one of the worst fromsoft bosses ever I would have lost my mind
@@alessandrodebonis4888 The dlc peaked with this fight and Messmer
I AM THE REDMANE FREYJA!
"I am Ansbach of the Pureblood Knights"

Ngl, when i walk in the arena and saw Leda, i was like; huh, so here we go again, another typical fromsoft sad npc fighting ya?
But the moment when every npc start talking and interacting with each other, the whole fight easily become my favourite and damn, it was epic!
Thiollier got that sleeper build.
Also Ansbach is fucking amazing.
The eeper build
In the literal meaning 😂
Ansbach got that weapon that yearns to bathe in the blood of his enemies
This part was better than the final boss
I love this fight, if you do it alone, it's like you are the boss here and Leda and her companions must defeat you, and if you do it with Ansbach and Thioller it is a fight between companions with different ideals, really a wonderful idea for a combat against npcs
"I am Sir Ansbach of the Pureblood Knights. I stand with blade aloft, blood afire. For the dignity of my lord and master Mohg."
This is the ABSOLUTE best of Fromsoft's NPC fights. I legit had tears during the whole fight. This might've been even more emotionally charged than the final boss. Final boss was epic, but THIS. This was so emotionally charged that I just can never hate this fight no matter how much anybody tries to convince me otherwise.
*getting ganked by Hornset and Freya*
“I Am Ansbach” 😲😲😃😃😤😤😤
Hearing moore say:"sad......forever?" Broke my goddamn heart
I had a whole playthrough to hear Freiya say, " The mere sight of your blade sets my heart aflutter "
Best NPC fight in the series. Period.
@@diegosaez4885 I summoned him on Messmer and he still invaded my world

ITS PEAK BROS
People who say this is the worst boss is probably because he didn't give a shit about the NPC quests, this fight is simply epic, although the combat itself isn't the best but the feeling that comes from having to face those you saw as allies and fighting side by side with others produces a feeling that no other boss gave me... that added to the music and the NPC dialogues undoubtedly make for a pretty epic battle.
when you think you have no more allies to come help you, you suddenly hear:
*"I am John Elden Ring. And every ring has its elden."*
Me too, the moment I first spoke to her, I wanted to know more about this redmane.
Her fight man, it made me sad. She was the one I was hoping we would charge straight into the final battle with. When she said "this is our moment. Let's make it something to remember" It felt like an old friend telling me to smile and to honor her with battle. 😭
Edit: Oh yeah she bows to us in her death pose.
I also kinda found it to be a tutorial on how to deal with gank squads
The Bayle's fight with Igon as well. I just can't do this fight without summoning him, it takes away too much.

That has got to be the most badass line in the game it tops Maliketh’s line for me
The fight was so hectic that I missed some of the lines later on in the fight. The exchanges between Thio and Leda, as well as Ansbach and Leda in particular. I would say I kind of like this encounter more than the final battle in some ways lol.
Makes me hope FromSoft takes this more NPC/party member centric approach in their next game, whatever it ends up being.
