A really professional tutorial. Well done, Im now a virtual machine hound! Thanks a lot, i just wish i had you to explain some other tech stuff so clearly. Some people are born instructors and some perhaps shouldent even try. Well done again and thanks.
That's because you don't have any drives labeled like that. It really doesn't matter. What matters is that you choose the ISO file of the OS you're going to install.
What happens now in the year 2017 when XP is no longer supported? I need it to run programs from that time ago and have it up and running now in VirtualBox but have no idea whatsoever as to how to install other software that I need (Visual Basic), which comes in three 'Floppies'.... I disc copied these discs and placed them in C: drive and hit Setup and it worked until it needed to read (obviously) something from Drive A: In short the question is 'How to set up Vis Bas in VirtualBox running XP'? And what do you do about Activating the XP when its no longer supported by Microsoft?
A video showing how to get/make the iso for various OS would be VERY useful. I've seen this request alot and seems about time someone did a vid on it. :)
@mcfcfan33 I think what is happening is that it is trying to boot to the hard drive rather than your Windows installation media. Before starting the virtual machine, click on the storage link in the right hand pane. Make sure that you have a virtual CD/DVD drive listed there. It will probably say "Host Drive (something)". Make sure that is set to the CD/DVD drive with the installation media in it, or that you have the ISO image selected. Hopefully that is just set wrong
helP! Ive gotten to the part where you start it up but when i do it just says "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." i dont know what to do, plz respond ASAP!! EDIT: I found out i need a 32bit iso file not 64bit
What OS are you installing on your VM? By default VBox will use SATA if you are installing Windows Vista or newer. If you are using XP or older, it should revert to IDE.
It did not work, It said "FATAL: No Bootable Medium Found! System Halted" even if my cd is in or out. Also, I used www.microsoft.com/en-us/Download/confirmation.aspx?id=18242 for Windows XP 64bit. Please Help!
Guys most of you are going to face the below error while installing the VM Workstation {{This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. following with 3 options or steps.......... }}} Solution: Just go on your bios settings, under advance settings click on the virtulization to be enabled or check mark it. Try Opening the VM Workstation again .....

I want to install win 10 as 2nd operating system
Thanks for the video, it has helped me set up VR machines well. I do have a question, I'm trying to set a machine up for my parents using a copy of windows 7 I no longer need (make it legit). I follow this video to the letter but get an error when the VR machine starts>> "ata2 master: Unknown device". I have tried several ISO's also for win8, 8.1, 10 and Ubuntu with the same error. I'm at a loss for why as I've done this more than a few time on my machine with no problems, but this is also the first time doing this on a Ryzen (using an MSI x470 with a 2600 CPU) set up too. Any thoughts?
Hi, I'm just getting into VM's and doing this to help have a deeper understanding for my class. When I open it says FATAL: No bootable medium found! I'm pretty sure I don't have a key aspect of what I need, which I guess is the medium, and would really love it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Is it making virtual image? I have a project in which i have to make vm image idk what it means. Help me out pls. I have to make subbmission very soon. Give me the required link if possible if this isnt the video i'm looking for.
Hi guys I had a previous VBOX install, took it away, now trying to install VBOX 6, installation setup gets stuck nearly completion, tried to do it several times, always same result Do you know what am I doing wrong? Thanks for the preview! Jose
@mcfcfan33 Do you get this message after some of the Windows setup is complete, or do you get this message before you are able to install anything at all?
Keep getting error insisting I am running an i686 cpu. Cpu is amd64. Tried running 64 bit isos did not work. Tried running i86 isos did not work. The fuck does it think I have an i686 cpu, its an i52k series amd64 cpu. Am I fucking up the settings somewhere? (note tried this with ubuntu 12.04lts)
Edit: *i386 iso So yea, tried 32 bit and 64 bit flavors did not work. Wanted to try this with ubuntu isos before I tried it with xp since its easier to get the isos.
Is it a good idea to use one of these virtual machines every time one logs into the Internet ? Does it offer complete safety from scammers and trojanware, malware etc
Nothing on the internet can give you complete protection, but yes, a vm is a pretty thick layer between viruses and your cpu. just watch SomeOrdinaryGamers, he downloads and analyzes viruses and always uses a vm. just make sure to delete the vm if it does get a virus.
Thanks for the video... I am fairly knew to all this type of stuff (virtualization etc...) I just downloaded VirtualBox and I wanted to try and learn some OS' like Ubuntu, Mint, etc... I have a couple of questions though, how safe is this? meaning if I screw something up in the VirtualBox will my actual OS (Windows 8.1) suffer damage? or the HD or the RAM, etc... I don't know, can something bad happen? Also, how many OS' can I have in my VirtualBox (not running at the same time though) I mean just installed and ready to "launch" and will having these OS' hinder the performance of my laptop? if so, how detrimental will it be? I have a simple Asus Laptop with 16GB of RAM and an Intel I7 3630QM and if it matters it also has a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 635M... Thanks for the help and I apologize for the stupid questions!!! >_
If you have an Android device, download Broadcom Wifi Driver and run the setup on your Windows PC. When the setup is finished open back the VirtualBox application and resume your setup of XP.
@mcfcfan33 I think I downloaded it from KickAssTorrents(doc)com I don't recall which one i downloaded though. I probably just downloaded the one with the most seeds.
