  • Servicing a Rock Shox Mag 21 1994 plus fork. Fairly simple but long process. Oil seal dimensions are 25.4x35x7. We are removing the oil seals, wiper seals and bushings. Slightly different to the earlier 1993 RS Mag 21. Anyhow, Atboy has a video of both versions.

I just bought a MIYATA mountain bike with this RockShox fork. In the near future, your video will save me from having to buy a new suspension now that I know how to do it. Thank you!!

Just purchased a Stumjumper M2 from 1993 that has been used a little bit the first year and has been stored since. I definitely want to service the fork to make sure the seals and all the mechanism is not dry or anything inside. I would hate to ruin this bike! Thanks for the video, absolutely helpful.

Can you tell us what circlip pliers you use at 1:55 to get the slider retaining circlip off? The ones I have have a tip diameter just over 1mm and don't fit in the circlip holes. I've been over both Mag 21 videos frame by frame and can't ID the pliers you have. Thanks for making this video!

Did you manage to get it? The holes are tiny. I don't know the diameter, but my advice would be to take some cheap circlip pliers and file down the ends until they are small enough to fit. They should be like needles.

When I try to inflate my Mag21 with the supplied syringe and dial, the pressure doesn't rise. I tried another syringe, with same results, so it's not the syringe fault. Do I need to do a complete overhaul or is there just a top seal I could change?

Sound like an air leak, can’t you hear any coming out? Is there oil inside still? Yh I would imagine a oil seal being the cause

Tengo una rock shox MAG 10 y pierde aire por donde se infla, por qué podría ser?

Thanks so much for this video! I especially like how detailed the explanation is of both the tearing down and reassembling the fork. I will be attempting the same service on my new-to-me Mag 21 forks. By the way, how tight should the bolts be that are clamping the crown around the stanchions?

Hi, did this quite some time ago. Should be mentioned in the manual (easily obtainable online). I’d imagine 6nm

@@atboy4342 Thanks! I've been riding mine semi-regularly since having posted my original comment. Only odd thing I notice is the stiction from the uppers. Is some stiction a common characteristic of this fork's travel? I oiled the stanchions to help them out some, but that didn't last very long.

@@icantgivecredit871 I’ve only just started to use mine on a peugeot grisley (video coming soon). Mine don’t seem to have that. I’m guessing, if the uppers are not going up, there is suction, possibly too much oil? Trapped air?

@@atboy4342 I failed to specify that the compression and rebound are fine - it's that the beginning of the stroke feels as though it's not entirely smooth. I liken it to the high stiction characteristic of vintage Marzocchi forks with their beefy wipers.

@@icantgivecredit871 ok I understand. Well compared to period marzocchi (I’ve had the XC 400 and 600), the mags are possibly better in my opinion. Less harsh. In all though, I quite like the bouncy elastomer RS better for that period. But in summary, they are all terrible. Only a couple of years later, you have the M bombers. They are night and day. The M4? I think I have on a Sunn, is so superior to any of these forks. Actually, no I really enjoy my Judy Elastomer fork, which I use often….Anyway, you probably have a better feeling for these forks than I do,. The travel is so petite, small objects, you just feel them. Honestly haven’t tried them enough yet though to give you any meaningful opinion
