- In this video we take a pair of tired early 90's Rock Shox MAG 21 SL titanium mountain bike forks, Strip, Repair, Sand, Re-Finish, Service & Put it all back together again.
We show the process involved for servicing maintenance and how to transform them back to top condition.
They have become very tired & dirty over the years, So now it is time to breath new life back in to them. The forks are very stiff and can barely be compressed.
We will be replacing the original damaged decals and re-painting the lower legs.
This particular set are being used on an early 90's GT Zaskar bicycle.
Keep posted for how we carry out all of the refurbs on the bike components.

This fork was just unspeakably cool back in its day to any kid who was into bikes. That gleaming SL version almost had a holy aura to it. 😁
Amazing to see its mysterious dark magic within revealed; thanks for taking the time to do this.
@@mikegreen2214 yeah, it certainly stands out with the mirror gold look.
Thank you for taking the time to message, I appreciate the kind comments.
A MAG 21 with a 1-1/8 threadless steerer tube is a rare sight, nice work.
@@canuckonabike yeah, I thought that.
Thank you, it’s really appreciated 😃
Thank you! I just inherited a Serotta mountain bike with a Specialized FSX fork which is basically this fork with carbon lowers. It seems like it's in pretty good condition, I just want to replace the oil and properly set the PSI. I've been looking and looking and looking, and your video was a perfect source of information. Thank you!
@@dinohuntr851 brilliant, glad it has helped in some way.
I am hoping to do some of those forks in the future…..
Stunning. Satisfying to watch and listen. I still have a set of Mag 21 SL Ti's brand new in box, but even that one inas faded in colour
@@rene295 thank you, I appreciate the kind comment.
Oh, wow. That’s a shame they have lost their finish. Will be interesting to see how long these last….
I thought it would fade by the sun, but it is just oxidation. Was that you on Retrobikes posting about the restoring of the Mag SL?
@@helmutsniper yes, I thought it would fade from uv.
No, it wasn’t me.
I read a similar article about a restauration of one of those. He had it completely mirror polished and after that is got coated with a (i think) reddish clear coat. Looked also stunning. Do you do more forks?
@@helmutsniper that’s basically the process.
Yeah, I’ve done lots of different forks. There a few already on the channel.
awesome refurb job!
Thank you. It is really appreciated.
Absolutely bangin' 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
@@samblenkharn8099 😃 thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to view it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That looks so bling! Nice one.
Funnily enough - I was thinking the other day; you don't see ANY forks with boots these days? I wonder if there is a way to add boots to forks without making them look dorky?
@@ollien3359 thank you, it’s appreciated.
Yeah, it’s probably more to do with looks than anything. If the forks have them when I get them, I usually keep them fitted.
thanks you, this is great stuff
Thank you very much, I appreciate the kind comment.
the stantions are in good shape becuase the past owner had them on. (and kept them clean)
Yeah, I 100% agree with that. 👍
i will be honest, some cuts jumped over some important bits for example 3:10 i would have liked to see how this is done.
that being said i really like the format, if you want to do a more in depth version then i would say keep this edit at the beginning then after do a longer format or second video. and if possible please try to let us know part numbers and how the fork work or background of the fork, if possible.
thanks again.
Yeah, I agree. I recorded this, But could not find the footage. I tried to explain as best I could without it. Will keep this in mind for the future. Thanks
@@retfurb honestly i didnt notice at first. :P
what an awful colour! i love it! that would look real good on an old mtb
Yeah, They have been fitted to an early GT Zaskar by the owner.
