You should eat a persimmon. A lot of people have never seen them or eaten them. Just be sure to get a ripe one! Eating an unripened persimmon is a lot like putting a spoonful of alum in your mouth. Not at all pleasant. Ripe persimmons are delish though.
    Happy new year! 😊🎉💥

fantasyvsreality299 passionfruit is probably grown in a couple very warm areas of the U.S. but it is sometimes hard to find in New England (or the Midwest where I live) and it's usually very expensive. I'm planning on visiting Brazil as soon as I can and one of the first things I'm going to do there is buy a pound of them and sit and eat the whole damn lot.

I just tried one for the first time (and probably last time) today!! When I saw it in the store and noticed melon was in the name, I was so excited because melons are my favorite kinds of fruit! But then I cut it open, was so confused, and looked up how to eat it. I agree the seeds were quite annoying, the texture was interesting, and it wasn’t as flavorful as I thought it would be. It took me forever to eat the slightest bit of it, and I eventually gave up (even though I didn’t want to because it was so expensive, hahaha)! At least it was an experience, attempting to eat this alien fruit!!

You forgot to scrap the inside. After you eat the green gel part you can scrap the inside of it & eat some of the softer yellow parts. It tastes completely different than the green parts. That's one of the reasons I like it so much! It has 2 different parts to eat that taste different with a different textures. Almost like you're eating 2 different fruits!

  • @d60944
    @d60944 5 лет назад

It's also easy to grow from seed like a cucumber given a warm and dryish summer. It's an annual and a plant can crop quite a few of these pretty things on it, which are lovely as fruitbowl decoration even if they do taste rubbish.

If you are ever vacationing in the tropics and have the opportunity to go to a fruit farm with a tasting session, do it! There’s a ton of fruit that you can’t get or taste completely different because it ripens and sours in a matter of hours. Try to get your hands on
-Fresh star fruit (nothing like you get in the store, i guess it spoils in less than 10 hours)
-Fresh dragon fruit (with a squeeze of lime. Acidity amplifies the flavor of many fruits)
-Purple Mangosteen (like marshmallows soaked in fruit juice)
-Orange Mangosteen (super sour, maybe skip)
-Soursop (seriously, the most complicated single flavor I have ever experienced. Needs to be Fresh cut, mine had just fallen off a tree not 20min before. You can find jams and preserves but it loses all its complexity. Bizarre, awesome and super hard to come by, should be on every foodie’s bucket list.)

I bet if you put these through an old-fashioned hand cranked food mill you could separate the pulp from the seeds. (We use them for persimmons.) I don’t know if they still make food mills, but they would probably be a good way to prep some of these fruits, for use in ice cream, etc.

Hello from Australia! - Happy New Year Emmy! Such an amazing vibrant, pigmented fruit. I'll have to keep my eye lids peeled back & see if I can find this type of fruit at my local fruit market. :)

My BF loves these! Supposedly they're good for your brain ( aka super food ) and he eats them quite often. We cut them in half horizontally so that they resemble little bowls. My kids get a kick out of em, we call it dragon snot! Even the 11 month old likes em!

I had a horned melon earlier this year. Very strange taste, kind of like a cross between an apple and cucumber. I just swallowed the seeds along with the little pods. Not my cup of tea, I like the dragon fruit better but those are double the price at almost 10 bucks each. You should try one of the little round purple passion fruits next. Very small and dark purple and they smell incredible on the inside, almost like candy meets popurri but with the weirdest taste compared to the smell.

Hi Emmy :) happy new year! a small correction. You certainly don't find these frequently in New Zealand, were you thinking of the kiwi fruit?

HI Emmy, have you ever tried cooking/frying the kiwano in oil for example to make salsa/sauce (e.g. onion, tomato, green pepper etc) , what you do is substitute the tomato with kiwano. I've searched youtube but haven't seen anyone try this, but its unique and tastes great. The skin is edible can be chopped up just like a tomato and cooked in the salsa dish as well. As the dish cooks and reduces the skin softens/melts, becomes very delicate and adds to the flavour of the sauce. The problem is of course the seeds, these are too numerous and need to be sieved out as much as possible, leaving the pulp, skin and juice for the sauce.Do you think you could post a video on this way of eating kiwano and what you think of it since no one has. Thanks.

We found one of these in the produce section and my son was convinced it was a dragon egg so we bought one to try. Had no idea how to cut it, so thanks for the demo. I think he's going to be jazzed about the bright green inside

This is so cool!! I’ve always wondered what that looks like inside!! And omg yes as soon as you scooped it out I was like oh that looks like aloe!!! And there’s this aloe drink I get that has “mangosteen” in it! Soooo delicious, but I have been curious about the mangosteen!!! Because it’s nothing like mango and it’s a lot like aloe 😂 I would love if you could make a video about a mangosteen!!! And where you found it! :D

When I used to do in-store promotions we had to demo this fruit once. To me they have an astringency in the mouth feel but I had difficulty trying to define it any other way. Their flavour is nowhere near as intense as, say, a passionfruit, but it is such a lovely fruit. I've used them for garnish when I serve Thai chicken skewers. Another great video, too! Wish I was a mutant so I could give you four thumbs up!

It's like dragon fruit...I bought it to try with my kids. It was beautiful hot pink with white insides and black seeds. We guessed what it might taste like and then scooped a big bite each. Tasteless, watery, nothing, dishwater flavored almost. My little girl spit it out and said it reminded her of frog spawn 😂😂 I thought it would taste like kiwi. So I decided there's a reason the popular fruits are popular and the exotic ones aren't
Thanks for showing us this interesting fruit, Emmy!

The theme in the intro and outro reminds me of a Disney short before the movie started.

You should taste test some fruits from landscape plants. Natal plum, common myrtle, Australian bush cherry, fuchsia, arbutus, purple-leaf plum all have edible fruits.

Try jak fruit! I know from experience it's really hard to cut and get the fruit out but it tastes like nothing on this earth! You should definitely do it! If you can't get a jak maybe a smaller durian?

Whaaat! I tried a Kiwano the other day and loved it. I would not describe it as just 'meh' it was just a refreshing taste. I just ate the seeds and they didnt bother me.

I've never had one but if you've seen Charmed then you'd see Kiwano make an appearance when Piper orders it to her club and contracts a disease from a sandfly that traveled along with it!

Have you ever eaten a Babaco ? I saw it once but never tried it.
(The babaco fruit is seedless and the smooth skin can be eaten, and is said to have
tastes of strawberry, papaya, kiwi and pineapple. The fruit is
pentagonal in shape, therefore giving it the scientific name of Carica
    pentagona.)

I used to eat them when I was a kid but we used to peel them and just eat them the same way you'd eat an apple 🍎 but we used to sprinkle a little salt on them too
