Soft= ripe. Spots= sweet. Heavy= juicy. Good watch

Bro summed up the whole video into one sentence
@@antman007619 a peen
Hotel = Trivago
Need an episode 2 with stone fruit because nothing is sadder than a bad nectarine
Bad peaches are soul crushing
I got a whole bunch that looked fine but tasted like soap.
Depressing.
@@rebekahwells5241 and nobody talks about it ...
A nectarine is a stone fruit? 🤔 There's no pit tho
Omg i was thinking mandarins. Nectarines are the best in season
This dude just made me realize I have been eating unripened pineapple all my life. This week I got a pineapple and waited until it was turning into golden yellow color. It was the sweetest pineapple I've eaten in my life!!!
Dont mean to ruin your day but pineapples do not ripen after they are picked- they just get softer. This is because sugar stops developing once they are picked. Grats on finally getting a good one though!
Pineapple do not ripen once you pick them. This guy knows nothing about the physiology of the pineapple. As they sit on the counter they start to ferment, not ripen! Cherries, berries, pineapple, grapes, watermelon and others are NON-Climacteric fruits and DO NOT further ripen once they are picked. They key is that they all must be picked when physiologically mature. Just pick the greenest and the heaviest when picking a pineapple, sugar weighs more than water.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don't feel ashamed either to pick up every pineapple at the grocery store until you find the ripest one. I can feel the eyes on the back of my head when I do this and just ignore them. Those losers can have the unripe ones lol.
You can take to tip off, and turn it upside down on your counter until the sugar that settles to bottom distributes to the top. Best pineapple you’ll have in your life. And also roll your lemons and limes prior to cutting!! It’ll break the tiny pieces apart before you slice for easy juicing
"I'm allergic to cherries"
*proceeds to eat a cherry*
Please don't eat things you're even slightly allergic to. Each time a reaction is triggered, the severity may increase. Carry an epipen with you, because you don't know when it might get really serious. Stay safe everyone
@cherrybearylemondrop Sorry, but I disagree. You have to expose yourself to allergens in order for your immune system to learn to deal with them. If all depends on the amounts you're exposed to. There are even specialised therapies based on this.
Yes, we all saw that too...
@@Lia_L. If you're working with a board certified allergist, you can follow their recommendations. In any other circumstance, you should not self-challenge with allergens
Hypersensitivity have its mild, moderate and severe range. He is likely mildly allergic to it the same way I am to shrimps and cockles. Still allergic but it's mild annoyance than actual full blown anaphylactic shock.
I worked in a produce department throughout college and will never forget all the information I obtained about how to pick the best fruits & veggies. People that don't buy pineapples because they are "too hard to cut" or "I don't know how to de-core it" need to watch this! It's SUPER fast! Can chop up a pineapple in a minute easy. Watermelons too, record speed was 23 seconds I think?
PS: Did this man just trigger all of us purposely with that backwards watermelon bite? Wtf! 1:42
He also said that the pineapple core is completely inedible. Not true - if it's very ripe, the core can be super yummy, just a bit harder than the rest of the fruit
Fr I was like, did he just eat the rind??
Any tips for veggies you wanted to share? I'm kind really bad at choosing good ones
@@Subsistence69 he already cut the rind off the part he bit but I wonder why he ate it like that 😂
I went back and looked the first time I saw him bite the watermelon, but he got rid of the rind where he bit.
As much as I'll miss the golden era of Bon Appetti videos, they've been killing it with these new videos. Really love the content that's been coming out.
Yeah.. While I loved the crew doing stuff, this kind of video teach me random useful stuff
BA Renaissance era is now.
You need to do another segment, but with such tropical fruits as durian, jackfruit, lychee, longan, mangosteen, rambutan, kumquat...and all the other exotic ones.
Doubling down on durian and jackfruit. I feel physical pain watching people slice into durian 😫
Lychee, Longan and Rambutan all have the same softness rule for ripeness. Mangosteen is similar to passion fruit.
YES
he did do kumquat
Yeah
Can't believe he got flak, all throughout the video he was on point on the cut styles, texture and taste profiles of each and every fruit ☺️
Did he just... Eat the rind?
🍉Yes!
It is edible
I said the same thing out loud, and then I looked down and saw this comment 😂
Yeah, watermelon rind is edible, although I always find the taste similar to cucumber (I think the plants are related), which I don't like while eating sweet fruit
Bro ate it all. Wild!
This is the type of video where I could imagine myself as a kid and this guy coming to our school to hold a small seminar to teach us about fruits and I would’ve been completely hooked and mesmerized looking forward to tell my parents all I learned so we could apply it when we go shopping. God bless the internet
I'd trust this guy for my everyday life ripe fruit choices! ❤❤❤
@@apartmentcookery Frutopia indeed..... 🤣✨✨ He has that one super powerrrrrr!
He’s not really giving much info though, just really basic info.
@@user-bv7mk8id5t I know.....but I'd put my trust on him for my frutopia shopping spree....🤭
When he said that the core of the pineapple is completely inedible, it just appears into my mind the million time I’ve eaten the core and my mom use to make juice even with the skin 🥲.
"Yes! It is safe to eat the core of a pineapple. Although it is less juicy and slightly more bitter compared to the flesh that surrounds it, there is nothing unsafe about eating a pineapple core." What google said, it's edible, he just prefers not to eat it, so you're okay.
you can use the skin to make a light, refreshing alcoholic drink! See: tepache
The core of a pineapple is my favorite part
@@Peibs I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Saving this to watch in the Publix parking lot tomorrow so I can pick the absolute supreme fruit, thanks king! 🙏🏾
Awesome idea to bring him back for another video, was cool seeing the day in the life one.
Omg a star fruit! I remember growing up with this tree in our backyard. We climbed that a lot and learned how to choose which ones are ripe. The bright yellow stars are super easy to spot! Like tiny little lanterns!
Tristan-appreciate the science, humor , and curious spirit in the ways you share your knowledge. Super fun and enjoyable to watch. Thank you!!!❤
Stoked to see a return of Tristan! Great video, really appreciate this step by step!
When I saw the guy eating that mango by peeling it completely, I knew this guy is a true fruit admirer.
I just had terrible luck buying watermelon recently (very overripe). I wish I had this knowledge before. I feel like knowing how to buy fruits is one of those important adulting secrets.
Tip for pineapple, look for soft juicy golden bottom with greener top. Make sure the step can rip off semi easily by twisting and pulling by hand. Then before cutting, rip the top off and set it upside down for 20min-1hour. Will cause a lot of the bottom juicyness to spread into the top(since upside down) making the entire fruit equally juicy and nice. This is most important for soft ripe ones
Dragonfruit, when it is relatively sweet and also very chilled, is one of the most REFRESHING fruits on a hot, tropical day!” ❤
“People will look at me funny but I think it’s because they’re jealous” love that for him so iconic
thank you for this. i already knew for maybe half of the fruit cause my dad taught me. thanks for teaching me something new! would love a part two for other fruit out there like jackfruit, durians, longan, lychee, rambutan, and a bunch more fruits (:
Scientific and literary reference paired with practical information about fruits is amazing!!
Only thing I dislike about the softness test for avocado or mango is that it bruises them a little. And people in the supermarket go through all the fruits and squeeze them leaving them with brown spots afterwards.
yeah no need for a test of grip strength, I wanna see stores put a loop of this video up in the fruit section
I love this sort of content like I love learning. I love knowledge. I love cooking. This is perfect
Thanks - I learned a lot. I'm not a big fan of fruit but you helped me be willing to try some I've never tasted. Going to have to watch this while I am at the store.
Wow this is the video I've always needed 👌🏾👌🏾
Instant like. This is the exact vid needed after we watched Tristan on BA’s “Day in the Life” series. 🥳🥰 Thank you so much, Bon Appétit!
This is the video I didn’t know I needed. Thanks so much!!!
Amen to that especially as an almost 60 year old woman still having problems purchasing avocados. LOL
@@daniellenear9443 I’m 21 and have the same struggle hahaha
I’ve always been told to shake a passion fruit. If you can feel the seeds shaking around, it means it’s ripe! It’s worked well for me so far ☺️
This video helped me pick the most juiciest, LUXURIOUS, pineapple of my life. Made a dragon fruit, pineapple, watermelon and blueberry salad for breakfast this week! YUM
I indeed now know what each of these fruit look like. Thank you sir. Very cool
such a lovely guy! could watch his videos all day
I enjoyed this video way more than I thought I would
I almost wasn't going to watch this, just not a huge fruit fan. This may have changed me! Very interesting, informative, and fun! It's always enjoyable watching someone who loves what they do in action. Really enjoyed the video, thanks!
You don't like fruits?
Wow, all i can say is, you're missing out so much
I concur except for the changing me part haha
@@CuriousPug12 Didn't say I didn't like fruit. Read and understand before you comment, particularly when offering an unsolicited opinion.
Like all of them? They're all so different. And I don't know about you but I say "not a fan" when I want to say I don't like something in a polite way.
This is great! Finally some help picking fruit! Many of these I've been wanting to try but had no idea how to pick it or eat it 😅
Fruits are fkn amazing. Visually as well taste wise. Great little gem of a video.
Love this
Love this dude!
This is surprisingly interesting to watch. Thanks Bon Appetit
this guy's day-in-the-life feature at his restaurant was great, good to see him back!
Every opening... He doesn't miss!
This dude does not f*** around. Love it. What a guy.
This made me reallllllyyyy crave fruits!!!! Especially guyabano!!! Itss sooo goood!!!! Especially when cold!!!!
Wow, this was great!! I learned a lot!
Love this episode! ❤
Bro this helps me so much! Thank you!!
So informative and fun; love it!! More like this please!
❤️ passion fruits. The dark purple ones are the sweetest 😋
Such a helpful video. Saved it so I can easily review.
"i'm allergic to them" *proceeds to eat cherry*
"i'll just be itchy it's fine"
GREAT VIDEO...THANK YOU!
Need more Fruit Somme! He's great! A Somme w a Line Cook attitude - brilliant.
Youll also notice on a pineapple that it is more golden at the bottom, and *i believe* (could be wrong) thag its because of the sugars settling at the bottom-- because theyre store sitting upright. So when I buy a pineapple I put it upside down on the counter -- you can watch as the pineapple starts to turn more golden throughout -- and leads to a pineapple that is more evenly sweet.
thanks so much!
Pineapple, papaya and mangoes you can smell when they are ripe. Like they will have the strongest smell in the greengrocers.
Very helpful tips 😊
Very informative video. Thank you!
This is awesome. I like the bonus bits of info. I need to find a good pomelo
ayy i saw this dude when he was on the day on the line series, im glad you brought him back
This guys dope 👌🏽 very informative
wait, but pineapple core is definitely edible and has most of the bromelain which can aid in reducing inflammation, it also has fibre as well!
one of the best videos, maybe ever
this guys very chill good video
He made me excited for spring and FARMERS MARKETS!!!!!!!! YAY! LOVE FRUIT! 🍊🍉🍈🍓🍒🥝🥑🍎🍋🍌🍍
Good to see Tristan again 😊
Beautiful information here holy wow…however, incomplete. Honeydew & Cantaloupe need love too. Anticipating a part 2 🤤
This guys awesome!
kiwi skin is always edible, not just when it's less hairy. the hairs themselves are not the problem when eating, but if the skin is thick, it will feel papery and bitter. otherwise, it's just like eating a peach.
also, there are studies saying the skin has healthy properties to it, eg. helping with sleep
This video was very informative. 👍
This video was awesome!! Love featuring more Asians and Asian fruits. I learned a lot. Nice job!!
Ok, this was a fun segment, ngl I learned some things. Also Tristan is very cute 🤭
If you're in south florida check out the Fruit and Spice Park, they grow most of this stuff and they let you taste the tropical fruit that's in season
The pineapple core is edible, it just has a lot of fiber in it. I used to eat save the cores and eat them cause they are fun to chew on when I would cut fruit for fruit platters in restaurants.
I’m surprised when he -a fruit expert, said this. The core is sometimes my favorite because I know my body is getting fibers!!🥳
Yeah I would agree if he said it’s tougher than the rest but it’s perfectly edible.
The closer to the bottom the sweeter but as you go up it gets tougher.
what an unexpectedly great video.
That little move he did with his knife for the avocado was slick af.
Just a cool dude cutting and eating fruit. I love it
Omg if i lived by there id be getting that plate all the time
More please!!
Fruit Sommelier looks like a cool ign. Great video!
6:50 finally someone knows the best way to eat mangoes.
pine apple core is edible if you grill it you can also finely chop the core into strands and use it like bamboo shoots
My grandparents had persimmons, they would be jello inside but had a crunchy skin.. Pawpaw fruits are also delicious.
i thought i knew everything about picking fruit but this video taught me a lot!
Pink grapefruit is the bomb!😋👍
I’m with you! I peel pomelos the same way too!
amazing content
That is a beautiful fruit plate 😍
Him and Lucas, superb specialists that get featured
I LOVE eating the pineapple 🍍 core! It's literally my fav part
I've never had one that wasn't hard or just very fibrous.
*watches this video while in the UK where every single fruit is already chosen and pre-packaged for me in a way I cannot know whether it’s ripe or not ✨*
i love how this guy talks!!
Bro has an angelic voice I could listen to him all day
Great Video ❤
Wowsers 🤯💯🛠️
This was solid.
More episodes with fruitsomm please
Quoting ghostface and eating mangos like a savage
Gosh, i havent had a pomelo since i was a kid, thats about 20 years ago 😢 persimmons are my favorite fruit ❤
