- This is when Fa plays with Pa, late at night. The music isn't so great but emotions kicked my tears out. I just love dolphins, i dream of them :-)
This movie touched me as a 7 year old.......still does.
Not comprehending the "music not great"comment. Nocturne is one of the most emotionally evocative masterpieces of all time.

How beautiful.......... Love between a human and an animal. Animals are probably one of the few things that have kept man sensitive enough so far to not destroy itself.

The most stirring music of all time
This is a great movie.
The quality of this clip seems below standard but really appreciate for posting since 2009. The real star of this show is the soundtrack composed, orchestrated and conducted by Mozart of Cinema Georges Delerue! Nocturne will be my elegy and after all these years, the latest edition CD is now avail in the market!!

The music was beautiful. The flute was light and airy and reflected the gentle play between human and dolphin in water, Pa experimenting in the dolphin's world.

This music is beautiful...there´s no other word to describe it. Georges Delerue was a genius. I have the whole soundtrack album of that movie. My favorite tracks are this one here which is "Nocturne". Also great are "the day of the dolphin theme" and "The Chase". IMHO those are the best on that album.

@thebackgroundartiste "Agnes Of God" is one of the first melodies I learned to play on flute :-) "Love Theme" from "Man Trouble" is also one of his best. He was a genius :D

The music evokes what the words can't say: There is such a rare, beautiful relationship between Pa and Alpha that is in jeopardy of bad men who take Fa and B away and will kill them later if Ma and Pa are seen talking to Fa and B. The desire to kill Fa and B starts once the bad men learn that Ma and Pa are talking to the dolphins, really having a relationship with them to the point of understanding each other. This relationship is exploited when the bad men know that Ma and Pa love Fa and B.

"The music isn't so great" ?????? In my opinion......without that particular music, the scene would be so less! This is definitely one of my favorite pieces by George Delerue.

+Bill Raymor Yes, I agree with you. I will never know that time, and that's why every age lives in the memories of its classmates :-) But that doesn't prevent me to feel what is there even without music - true, deep connection with another being.

The poor dolphin is alone, trapped in a tank. He is a sociable creature with the need to be touched and spoken to and played with in his world for a change. He has to keep doing what people want of him in their world. So bad is the loneliness that Pa takes away Alpha's companion B to FORCE Alpha to speak out of desperate loneliness and the desire to have someone like himself nearby.

this seems wonderful, however knowing the reality of a dolphin from flipper (cathy-1 of the main dolphins) its sad to know how life truely is for the whale family. If you dont already know I suggest you look into it. Definatly a beautiful compasionate animal!
Can you find the scene where Fa counts to 10? The way he said 7 just about killed me.

I see many people disagree my opinion on Delerue's music in this clip, so to clear things up a bit: i like this music, but there are much more convenient music enclosures for such a passionate encounter as this one. Thanks for comments!

I would say remake, but if they did that, they would probably concentrate more on the military/terrorism aspect.
It doesn't need a remake but instead a sequel film and then a series, having the dolphins found and cared for by people who , for whatever plausible good reason that writers can come up with, can't be harmed or killed by those seeking to do so, nor can the dolphins. Sadly we can't have George C. Scott reprise his role but many of the other cast could do so. The movie and the series could have the dolphins allowed to live their lives and sometimes assist in doing good to others, both man and animals.

@mycharm3 Except when they viciously attack harbour porpoises, killing over half of the family pod...dolphins are animals first, as are humans. Granted the whale group is intellegent, but they should never be compared to humans or anthropomorphized. Each species has its own societal rules, morals and ethics. Survival of a species means competition for space, food, mates etc. Only humans are so determined in regards to the MASS destruction of members of its' own kind.
Cetaceans seem to have an ethical code that says not to kill humans. Some of the cetaceans have cerebral cortex sizes that dwarf humans, and one such group are the bottle-nose dolphins. (40 percent larger) . All cetaceans should be given “Non-human Personhood “ status .

I don't know if anybody ever seen this movie in 54 almost 55 years old day of the dolphin was a movie about training dolphins of course the talk communicate with humans but they have this stupid commercial on TV about a beluga whale with a camera in the old days there were training Dolphins to wear a landline or mine as they can go up and swim to a ship attach it to the ship and then it would explode we've been using mammals seals, dolphins, beluga whales, orcas, turn on stupidity

Yeah. This sequence would have been so much better if you dubbed in "Requiem For a Dream" instead of keeping this music. Or maybe the over used Evanesense. Thrash Metal would work in a pinch, but you'd have to have the right balance of garbled guttural lyrics and guitar riff. NOT.
