I think the 2015 MacBook Pro is still one of the best MacBooks ever made. Even today, it looks and works just fine; one would hardly guess that the device is almost 9 years old. I believe that, for a price of $300-$400, this is one of the better laptops you can buy. I'm still running Monterey but would definitely upgrade to Sonoma soon.

I was assigned a 2020 Mac Air by my job to run Activinspire, Adobe Lightroom and Premier Pro. It keeps crashing every 20 minutes and my 9-year-old Mac Pro (Early 2015) outperforms it with by a mile and programs crash only once in a while.
2015 MBP is easily the Doc Hudson/Lebron James of all Laptops aging like fine wine ✨

i also just received my 2015 macbook pro 15" with the 2.5ghz, 16gb and dedicated gpu, for $80 from ebay. the caveat, it has a broken screen, no wi-fi card and no ssd. but the top case, keyboard/trackpad and the bottom case are all still decent. no deep scratches, no dents. after i replaced the lcd, installed the wifi and 2tb ssd, i went ahead and installed sonoma. i am typing this now using the macbook and everything is running smoothly. only thing is the fan would kick up some times especially when i am watching youtube videos. but, it does not bother me. i prefer using this now as compared to my 2017 macbook pro 15". if and when open core stops supporting this, i will go ahead and install linux mint on this thing.

I have a mid 2012 MBP with a 2TB SanDisk SSD, 13” 16GB RAM with the i7 and it’s FAST! One of the best Apple ever made, swappable storage AND RAM, and it runs Sonoma like a CHAMP! I also have a late 2012 MBP Retina with the same i7 and Intel 400 graphics as the other one, but with the stock 500GB SSD and the soldered on 8GB of RAM. Been using the retina as a pilot for installing Windows 11, though I’ve been getting TONS of blue screens and trouble after installing the post Windows install Bootcamp EXE, trying to pin that issue down before I try the same process on the mid 2012 BEAST 😎👍🏻 errors vary between kernel security check failure and wdf_violation. Same result after first Bootcamp install as well as running the Bootcamp EXE after a complete reinstall through recovery options post blue screens when they occur. Ive even tried different versions of the post windows Bootcamp exe and same results

I have a similar issue: not really a battery drain, but the fans start running high every time the display goes to sleep. Whether I have a screen saver active or not, it does the same thing. I wasn't able to find out any process in activity monitor that determined the issue. I'm using Turbo Boost Switcher Pro (with turbo set to 'off') because I can't stand the noise from the fans, maybe I could disable it and check...
