  • We're running the American Smelt crankbaits today, the deep dive model. The crankbaits will dive about 20' as we slow troll about 2-2.5 mph looking for those big brown trout and lakers.

I usually like to start with jigging heavy spoons deep, but if thats not working, I get tired of that and just go for the good old flat line troll. Its nice and relaxing, and I can use 2 rods, sometimes the lake trout like to get in your other line though no matter how hard you try to avoid that, which is annoying.

thanks for the video. what coincidence, I went to the mouth and bar area last Saturday Jan 27th. it's very foggy. I was using similar hard-bait trolling along and against the current, however no catch. guess I was in wrong area.

If you arnt catching them near the buoy, there is another shallow section further out that is nice for trolling where you can catch kings and lakers. The current isnt as strong too, a little easier to fish.

Nice work Ivo! Love it when a rod with sentimental value catches fish. Was that spring time?

Love trout fishing but personaly i am a boatless angler so I fish small rivers with spinners.
I caught a 20 inch inland brown trout in the Grand last summer after catching only yearlings, small bass, and chubs for weeks.
It fought like a mf. It was peeling drag like a shark. I only had a 6lb mono leader but i managed to land it.
I'll never forget it. Such a beautiful animal.
Those brownies are no joke, son! And they taste awesome!

I love flatlinung cause you really never know what you are gonna get...may be targeting one fish and get something completely different. Trout, Salmon, Walleye, Pike, Musky, Small Mouth Bass...they will all go after that lure. So if there are any gamefish in the area, but you arent surew what to target, flatlining is a great way to find out what you could be targetting lol

Similar to the good old hook and worm.
Sometimnes you just need to throw a float on and open a beer 😂

Would be even cooler if the lakers were brookies.

Looks quite choppy out there...I know it is always worse than it looks on camera.
