I broke my neck in 2019 crashing the same way you did. I was an 1/8 of an inch from being paralyzed myself. My left arm was paralyzed for two days and eventually came back but I still have numbness in my left hand. I wish you the best in your recovery!

Thank you for sharing that crash video I just bought an MTB I had my first crash I almost broke one rib I didn't but it was so close, I couldn't go back on my bike for a whole month I still can do , but even though I didn't get the danger I didn't realize how dangerous it can gets now I'm gonna stick to the lower difficulty terrains just as my skill is , by watching your video now I get I need to always consider my skill, and the danger is real, also glad to see you back, and I'm gonna subscribe here and be a part of your online community 👍

I hope you find joy in the fact that you truly grabbed life by the horns and dove in with all you had. He's answered this before and he wasn't wearing anything aside from a helmet, knee/elbow pads. The majority of bikers don't wear braces or CE2 front/back armor. Personally I always wear a full-face and armor. I carry the brace around for any sketchy aggro trails or if I'm hitting the bike park. That said, I am in my mid-30's and I do not take adverse risks.

People don't realize how DANGEROUS all bikes in general are. After my mTBI I made the hard decision to stay off of them...not even a Trek road bike. I grew up riding motorcycles- was very lucky looking back. I've also jumped thousands of times. When you get older, you get a bit wiser...and you don't heal as quick. This guy has a great attitude and will likely do more from a wheelchair than most of us will do with two good legs. Attitude is key.

I still get out there- just did the epic Hell's Revenge Trail in Moab, UT. If you can get away, check out that area. You're welcome. The riding possibilities are endless. These days, I do the trails in a UTV with a seatbelt and roll cage. Moab Tour Co. in town with however rent very capable KTM's and you can ride them on the street to get to the many trails. Add this spot to your bucket list. Explore Mill Canyon and Kane Creek, Shafer Trail, etc. They even have sand dunes out there that we played around in. I guess it's still in my blood too.
Some of us ride safety and within our limits whilst wearing all the correct equipment. You are statistically more likely to suffer a serious injury playing football than mountain biking, especially if you wear a full helmet, and armor. Life is all about mitigation but never to the point of not enjoying yourself. Motorcycles are inherently more dangerous than mountain bikes.

I don't know the stats but Football, Mountain Biking and Motorcycles are all inherently very dangerous. Each offers it's own unique types of specific injuries that are common. Motorcycles typically offer a great potential for life threatening injuries after a crash than does a mountain bike. In the case of this video, all the gear in the world would not have prevented his injury. ***Important point** Helmets do NOTHING to prevent concussions. I know this well. They can help limit skull fractures. They must fit well and be tight- otherwise, they often fall off.

I'm 53 280 pound slob but muscular .if I got down to 240 I'd be good but I started mountain bike riding and I crashed a couple if times and I've always worried about tye wrong fall.i will be more careful now for sure.your lucky you didn't end up like Christopher reeve .he fell off a horse and he needed round the clock care to live.you will be back but at son point you gotta maybe take it slower.i know I'm gonna good luck brother
It's not. At all. There are around 10 million active mountain bikers in the US and around 40 million globally. Out of this total only a few hundred or less accidents a year result in serious spinal injuries. That's less than 0.01%.

I’ve had many crashes that Tony had and even some far “worse” ones (faster, flying off into woods, hitting trees and rocks), and have been lucky to have only suffered a concussion and scraps/bruises. I consider myself lucky, and seeing how a somewhat routine crash can alter your life is very sobering, need to keep a healthy fear of the potential consequences while riding out there. Huge respect to Tony for taking it in stride and turning it into an opportunity to shine a light on the para side of mtb.

he was tying to make it sounds cheaper then it really is... yes 15 Gs yikes. My ex has a bother that has a crank assisted quick release thing he puts on a wheelchair and that was like 5 grand. Ive been in or around bikes my whole life. Seen and built them. These prices across the board are outa control.

You will walk again I was paralyzed for a year and a half before I started walking again I have nine broken disc in my spine and more broken bones and surgeries than evil Knievel Hell yeah You will walk again push it you're going to have to fight so hard you're going to have to go through so much pain Don't fucking quit and get off the pain medication immediately as fast as you can buddy Don't let the pain of withdrawal from the pain medication trick you and think that it's the pain from the back and the broken bones
Be careful with those pain meds they can sneak up on you quick and then next thing you know, you need stronger and stronger like what I went through and it's not easy to get off them once you feel like they are not helping with the pain , it's mind over matter and like I said before , I think you will be out there again before you know it ! Keep the faith and happy Easter from the US

make sure to do intense exercises that get your heart rate up. people in wheelchairs usually die young from heart disease
