I was there yesterday. When Lemoine tried the gap while on practice, everyone went wild. When he did that 2nd and third time, that was the loudest I’ve heard whistler. When we looked back at that gap, doing it on that kind of bike, honestly should have scored more. After his second run, everyone was so stoked and didn’t even stayed for emil.
I dont question Emils first place at all, he totally deserves it due high technical difficulty level. That being said, the most exciting run from my point of view (I dare to say from many spectators point view as well) was Tomas run. Starting with manual of the deck and ending with the huge air, it made me laugh with joy.
On the contrary I completely question his first place call, completely undeserving when you examine the two riders prior. This is why I stopped watching rampage.
I think, even though it does deserve a first place based on tricks, that Emil should start adding triple whips and different rotations (double back, front flips and cash rolls etc) to his bag of tricks. Nicholi started to see his combos rated lower because he used the same tricks all the time. And seeing a rider taking risk doing smth crazy and unusual (like Lemoine) should be rated higher. Only my opinion. What do you think?
Rogatkin wasn't scored higher due to lack of oppo tricks, emil on the other hand makes all tricks in all directions. Problem with emil is that he makes everything look too easy and we can't even process level of difficulty on his runs. But of course for us viewers this sport is subjective ✌️
@@fpsgenerator it's still true for a rare few. Once they start doing triple and quad whips it starts to look more like a day at the gym rather than something cool or gnarly.
It's tough, because by the 'letter or the law' in terms of slopestyle the sport, Emil ticks all the boxes for judges. But even knowing this, as a fan I really enjoyed Lemoine's run the most. Despite that gap being the most rad thing I've ever seen in a slopestyle competition, it was technically a straight air. I would give Lemoine #1 but understand why Emil got first place. Must have been a tough one for the judges. Sick event tho in the big picture it was just awesome riding on an awesome course, can't complain about a free show this good. Big props to all the riders, Whistler, RedBull and all the others who make this happen.
Lemoine deserved the win. His run is what freeride is all about. He had spinny flips like everyone else, but NOBODY else made the crowd go that nuts with that send at the bottom.
If he threw a trick on that jump, I don't see how he doesn't win. Even then, that jump was crazy. Almost Darkfest like. Probably feels that way on a dirt jumper.
By far the most exciting moment in years for Crankworx doesn't get rewarded with Gold :( It was a goose bumps holy sh*t moment for everyone watching! Don't care what anyone else did and nor does anyone else. Insanely awesome!
Didn't he do an oppo 3 oppo tailwhip or something similar? I wanted Tomas to win as much as the next guy, but the fact is, Emil gives all the other riders a masterclass in what to do to impress the judges. Brett Rheeder is a great previous example of this. Guys like Tomas Lemoine, Nicholai Rogatkin and Sam Pilgrim are there to win, but IMO are more interested in impressing the fans. Neither is wrong. Crankworx is the world stage for Freestyle MTB.
That's been the situation with Dawid for a few years now. He is going so big there's little room for error. But if / when he puts everything together it will probably be a #1 or atleast a podium like RedBull Roof Ride (not an official Crankworx event).
@@24MPZ go big or go home 😉. This is sport with high risk. And bar is high. Also there is another factor. You must wow judges to win. If you will be the same as their favourite rider you will got second place. This is the same in UFC in title shot fights. When scores are even current champion will win.
Emil is good but Lemoine deserved 1st. Sick tricks, sick style, and huge gap. I saw Emils run and was pretty bored, shocked when he took over 1st place in heat 1. Cool run but zero wow factor
I love how Bringer came in nodding, Lemoine came in shaking his head and Johannson just rolled through with a raised fist cuz he wanted to take his hand off ASAp
Emil is the Mayweather of slopestyle. Very technical, low-risk, high-reward, mostly unexciting, but knows how to game the system and has the money behind him. Sure, most guys can't pull some of the moves he does, but can he do a cash roll or a twister? Bet not.
It was subjectively better. The judging has become too calculated. Points for this points for that. Amplitude doesn't seem to be as much of a factor in this compared to , say, a snowboard half pipe comp.
Emil is a great rider and all but his bag of tricks is getting stale and I really didn't like his attitude in the interviews leading up to the event. Lemoine on the other hand went full YEET! I was wondering if someone was going to jump the whale as soon as I saw it in the preview. Lemoine does not disappoint! And Bringer had a killer run along with some other fantastic riders!
I’ve never really found Emil that good to watch, while I appreciate he’s the best technically. I prefer watching someone like Rogatkin or Lemione in this one who just go for it and do mad tricks.
Yea but you know that the judges are always going to feel pressured and obligated to give him gold. Semenuk should come back just to spice things up like he did at rampage.
@@erickcano23 well, if he'd land a run once in comp again. But nobody hast such a go big or go home mentality as him so even if he isn't as consistent as in the past he'll probably be on the podium again if he land all.
Emil is super talented, but I’ve never enjoyed watching his runs as much as others. Slopestyle to me is so much more than technical difficulty, and I feel that novelty, variety, and amplitude don’t get scored high enough. It’s boring to watch Emil do 10 barspin/ whip variants in a row to win every time.
Tricks are cool, but I'm sorry, Lemoine should have scored far more for hucking that gap! The bowl feature just stalled runs and didn't add anything IMO
sorry but most of the other riders runs were more exciting than Emils. it may be technically difficult but its boring and repetitive. judges need to refine scoring proses for sure.
first run got a flat 360 whip the second feature, second run slipped a pedal on an oppowhip onto the last feature, went back tried it again then crashed doing a cashroll off
I don’t get it - it’s not an Olympic disciplin, it’s action sports so why this pseudo technical judging - Emil’s “variety” kills the sport - Allan not stopping to teach the viewer how tech everything is - that’s sooo boring. Bringer and lemoine are so enlighting to watch !!!! That last hit by lemoine is so impossible he should have won it - also to bring hope to the competitors that there is more to winning a comp than doing repetitive airbag sadness….
Sending it is great for a video part. But it shouldn't win you a slopestyle contest. If you send it and be super technical then yeah definitely. If you look at slopestyle skiing and boarding, they generally do the tech stuff up top and then send it on the booters down bottom. Maybe that format would be good for mtb slopestyle.
I mean, we've seen tons of cashies and double backflips. Those are sick tricks, but everyone at these competitions can do them. Look at the one at 3:51 - opposite 360 bar onehanded bar back to table. I very much doubt a lot of the guys there can replicate that trick. Like, when I see a cashroll I think "oh that's cool", when I see crazy combos like that I replay them five times to understand what just happened. Tech combos are more impressive to me than the usual sends, but I guess everyone has their preferences As Matthew said, maybe a combination of tech and sends should bring you more points? idk
I agree but it’s the package - look at Reeders joyride winning run idk 2016 7, 7 oppo flip whip, 3 combos - it shows a very well rounded rider. I think that risk management has to be put into the equation - the risk crashing a double backy vs some 3 with some crazy combo on stuff this big has to be rewarded! I enjoy Emil’s runs as well but after rotorua, Innsbruck etc its not the most entertaining.
It's kinda like skating from the eighties into the nineties, when the style of Alva, Peters, and Hosoi started losing to the tech of Hawk et al. It lost a lot of the artfulness.

Absolutely, Emil run is only based of 360 combo. Missing some kind of variety
