These are definitely my go-to when I need a super-quick, easy recipe for cookies. So simple yet so delicious. For different holidays, I’ll play around with different spices to complement whatever spices are in use in other dishes. Some nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, allspice, or other spices of that nature added to the cinnamon/sugar mixture can bring different aromas and flavors to the cookies. You just have to be careful not to overdo it since some of those can be overwhelming if you use too much. You can also add different extracts in place of the vanilla; almond extract is a great one.
Snickerdoodles have to be the most adorably goofy cookie name out there - thanks for this recipe and the wholesome vibes! Both especially needed today! Hope you and your family are well, John.
Here is Australia no one ever makes or has eaten Snickerdoodles. Then one day I found a recipe in a Nigella book and decided to make them because of how easy they were and how ridiculous the name is. I loved them and now I make them all the time. They are my absolute go to and everyone is always intrigued by their deliciousness when I do. ☺️
I'm in Australia and I first came upon them being sold in a Seven Eleven, they're quite big and has a gooey center. All the recipes I have looked at and made do not have gooey centers.
I'm making these for my best friend's 18th birthday. He loves snickerdoodles, but he hates when people buy him gifts because it makes him feel guilty and like he needs to buy them something of equal value. He eventually agreed to let me get him something if it was homemade, so I'm glad my favorite channel had a recipe for it!
omggg so sweet..im turning 18 next month..contemplating on what to make for myself..just hope its a success since im a perfectionist lol...but hope i dont get sad if anything went wrong
A colleague of mine made snickerdoodles and brought them to work. I had one and was battling myself not to eat the whole lot, they were so divine. I could never replicate her recipe though. But you always give the weights and not just the volumes, so I'll give it another go this year using your recipe. Thanks John 😃
Made a batch recently. My trick for covering them in the cinnamon sugar was dropping a few of the dough balls into the mix and shake the bowl slightly until they were all covered. And covered they were. 😀
I’ve done both recipes, and this one was DEFINITELY easier than the previous recipe! I made about 32 cookies in total with this recipe and it was fairly hassle free. I had no concerns about it not rising, and every cookie came out great. My only issue was beating the butter and sugar with a hand mixer. I don’t think it was very productive and I ended up just putting on some gloves and doing it manually by hand. Beyond this little hiccup, all went smoothly with this recipe and everyone loved it! It was fluffy and there was no concerns about it being raw in any way.
I like that he said the cold counter sucked the heat out of the butter. hot always goes to cold. knowing that it's important because it does make a difference.
I am not much of a baker. I prefer to cook because I am not good at following recipes, but I made your snickerdoodle cookies the other night and my best friend, she's very particular when it comes to cookies, said that these were the best snickerdoodle cookies she has ever had. I would like to also thank you for the great recipes and videos that you have.
Yes please, salt video. I have three different types at home and would love to understand their true / best potential! Thank you John! Great video as usual..lots of fun, this round!!
These have always been a family favorite. My relatives came from Germany & passed this recipe down. BTW, I would like to see a video on the difference types of salts & how they work in various recipes.
Another winner! My cookies came out super puffy so I must have over mixed them. Not aesthetically pleasing.. They still tasted amazing and I will be trying it again. My husband loved the sea salt and said it was a surprising taste and wonderful. ❤
These cookies were SO good! And the best part is I had a little over 2 dozen so it was the perfect amount, flavor, chewiness. I’m debating making another batch now 😂
All of my grand children love these cookies when I make them but mine are not very soft after they cool down. I will be using your recipe this year. Thank you for this recipe.
To keep soft - underbake just a little, and put in AIRTIGHT container before completely cooled. To soften cookies that are already hard, just put a piece of white bread in your container of cookies.
Wow! I literally just put a tray of Snickerdoodles in the oven, when this video popped up in my feed. I should make this recipe and see how they compare.
I've been getting these cookies at my local baker, and I adore them! Your recipe looks wonderful, so I'm going to make my own homemade snickerdoodles. Thanks, John!
creme of tarter is so refreshing on a nice spring moring ahh nothing better than a creme of tarter and lil bit of pipe in the morning, the good days are truly behind us.mixmix
My German great-grandmother made these cookies for us in the 1950's. She never said if she made them in the "old country". Doesn't matter, they were the best treat.
I've never made snickerdoodles, but they're so delicious! This video must be a sign to make them😅 Thank you for always sharing brilliantly delicious recipes!!! 😊
Another tip, if you spoon a little extra of the sugar mix on top of the balls when they're placed in the sheet pan, it makes a nice cracked look and it's ever so slightly crispy
I used freshly milled soft white wheat flour (I'm new to it) and got a surprising result. They are light/fluffy and delicious. But I would rather have the chew. I'm not sure what to do to make that happen. Maybe an additional egg yolk? I still have great cookies the way they are. Thanks.
My grandmother used to make a paper thin sugar cookie recipe that I think contained cream of tarter. Unfortunaley her recipe has been lost to time. I love a good snicker doodle so I will be baking these p as soon as I get some cream of tarter.
I just love watching your videos and cant wait to make these cookies for christmas!!... your hilarious had me cracking up over here lol thank you for sharing your recipe and videos... ive made your brownie in a mug idk how many times now and oooo so delicious!!
Can I substitute baking powder instead of baking soda? If so, what do you suggest for measurement? I’ve also heard baking powder has cream of tartar already and salt. Would this just change the cookie completely?
Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookie. I hate when people don't add cream of tartar. It gives them a distinct taste. Also, I would love to know how to make homemade vanilla!
Making your own vanilla is super easy. The basic idea is take a glass jar with a tight fitting lid and fill it with a high proof alcohol, like vodka and add lower grade B vanilla beans, and make sure the beans are fully immersed. Leave the jar tightly capped for 6 months to a year or more. Shake the jar once a week or so. This is the basic idea. Lower grade B vanilla beans are cheaper AND they're the ideal beans to make extract with. I've made vanilla extract with bourbon and vodka. Bourbon was a nice match to the Madagascar vanilla beans I used but it took too long to make compared to just simple cheap vodka. If you can afford it, double fold vanilla is extremely special to use. Double fold basically means you use twice as many beans as the recipe calls for and you get extra strong vanilla. I found my vanilla extract recipes online and bought my grade B vanilla beans from an eBay seller. I tend to let my beans steep at least 6 months and then remove the lid, put cheesecloth over the opening and let it sit for a while to off-gas the scent of alcohol. (The cheesecloth is to make sure nothing can fall into the container while still allowing for gas exchange.)
@jessicaharris1608 do you remove the beans from the pod? Or just slice the pod open? That seems very easy but I didn't realize it took so long. How much alcohol is used?
@Crystalini1984 I just sliced my beans open. How much alcohol depends on how much you want to make and how many beans you have. I used the cheapest vodka I could find. I've also made extract using glycerin instead of alcohol but it's much more difficult. As I said, specific recipes you'll have to find online yourself, but I imagine at least 2 cups worth ensures the beans are completely immersed. I've seen recipes that say it can be ready in a month, but it's always better if you can soak the beans longer. It can make a nice gift if you plan ahead and package it nicely.
Yes I’d love to see a video on salt please.
Me too!
And maybe one on the different types of butter.
Not me. I'm salty enough as it is. 😎
Definitely! Me Too!
@@NotContinuum. Haha! Very Good
I'm voting yes to the video about salt. And I love to see that John was cracking himself up. It shows that he was enjoying himself.
I've actually ruined meals by using SEA SALT or PINK SALT...reg salt, I have to use more because it hardly salts. Big vote for video on Salt.

Made them this morning for husbands office. Followed instructions to the T! Soooo good! Thank you for the recipe !
I just made these snickerdoodle’s after my son requested some for Christmas and they turned out amazing! Thank you Preppy Kitchen!
Excellent & easy. My sis says it's the best recipe. I had never made these cookies before & I've since made them twice. YUMMY!!
Pretty smart about sprinkling the cinn-sug over top instead of rolling. Makes perfect sense. Husband loves these and making for Christmas. Thank you!

If you do a salt video, can you talk about how much to reduce the added salt when you use salted butter instead of unsalted butter in a recipe?
This!!!

Hi John, the cookies look yummylicious; can I double or triple this recipe? Thank you for all the work that surely goes into these videos 😁

Just made them and they are absolutely delicious
Is there a replacement for cream of tartar ? I don't really know what it is here in my language so i don't know how to get it.
Thank you for this! The universe knew I needed to see this as I had a snickerdoodle yesterday that was runny raw in the center 😢
