  • On this month's episode, we take a look at an all-but-lost 90s French-Canadian children's show called Chicken Minute (or Cocotte-Minute if you're Quebecois). We follow the wacky adventures of a cast of colorful puppets who are living a musical life on the Louisiana Bayou - a topic the Belgian creator of the show certainly must have known a lot about. Lots of...uh...authenticity here.
Anyway, check out some cool puppets, some oddly stream-of-consciousness songs, and some disappointingly bland writing on this month's Too Many Tapes!

    Box description:
Hi! My name is Ulysses... and this Chicken Minute tape really cracks me up. My shell can't take much more. It's time again for the annual singing contest, and you're invited to join in the festivities! Mama Chicken lost her voice, and Mudbelly has hidden it away in an old tin can. That scoundrel! He thinks with her out of the way he'll win for sure. Just stick around and see what happens.

For some reason, seeing you review odd children’s shows with uncanny puppets is my favorite thing ❤️

Chicken Minute was one of my favourite shows growing up. I'm Canadian and my siblings, who are both younger than me, and I watched it all the time on the channel it aired on here in Ontario, TVO (TV Ontario). It was interesting to say the least.

The Chicken Minute Outro from this and almost every episode is the reason the dress code is to wear a dress buttoned shirt or no shirt at all, a pair of wide-leg hip-hop baggy jeans with a compulsory belt because of Anatole Bonbon, the alligator from the show and the way he exposes his red pants and black belt with his tail sticking out in the final part of the song that made the viewers very proud of, especially the full version of it that has Anatole singing more of it. And I'm still very surprised there's no tutorial of the outro and the user wearing the baggy jeans outfit doing exactly what Anatole did in the outro.

Memory unlocked. This aired in the US when I was in preschool, but I only remembered the theme song and the bayou setting.

I don't remember this, but googling tells me the creator is also responsible for the longer-running Iris the Happy Professor which I refused to watch as a child because it gave me uneasy feelings. Probably a lot of overlap there.

I think this is made by the same people who also made Professor Iris and Little Star.
