- Today's tool talk is to discuss the best use for tool/material organizers. I share with you what I feel is most efficient. Brand doesn't matter. Milwaukee is what I have but Dewalt, Ridgid, Festool, Packout / Non- Packout. It's how you use what you have....

I've started to organize my tools and fasteners into specific jobs now. Which usually means buying duplicates of stuff, but it makes setup a lot easier.
I find it helps me not forget things that I might need for a job. I don’t have one for every job, but if it’s something I do a lot of….I think it’s really helpful.
Don't know why I never thought about this. I have stacking job boxes dedicated to different functions, compressor, wood working, power tools, etc but never thought about making individual organizers for specific jobs. Not a professional , just a professional home owner that has worked facilities, but this is great even for home maintenance. I've installed so many doors due to anxious dogs chewing, tons of light fixtures and ceiling fans, installed decks and fences, whatever. This will help me organize better in the future. I've only followed for a short time, but this channel has helped me so much.

It makes it nice for me that if I am going to install or work on a door, I just walk in the garage and grab a box. I don’t have to think, I don’t forget something, and I don’t have to carry multiple organizers.
I have one for different electrical, door work, plumbing, drop ceilings, cabinet install, etc.
You can’t do it for everything, but if you do it for your most common jobs, I think it’s helpful.

Thank you so much for this video. I’m a field engineer and we do things from setting up servers to climbing large video boards. This is great, I’m going to have a networking bin, fiber bin, and electrical bin.
Saves me a lot of time getting things together for a job… and I usually don’t forget things… usually 😂

That's exactly what I do. I have job specific organization kits. Every time I show them to anyone they just don't get it. But it always works for me.
Yeah, I find I like it mostly because I don’t forget something I will need. It doesn’t work for every job, but it works great for the ones it does.
I don’t primarily work out of a truck with limited space. I get why it might not work for someone if that’s the case because space is a premium. You would have more organizers with doubled supplies.
I typically know what I’m getting in to and am not far from my supplies. I just grab what I need and go, so it works for me.

On point. I use both. Job-specific for going out and like-material for drawer-based in the shop.

Great job, love your system. I have attempted over the years to do similar organization with job specific tool boxes and Plano cases for parts and supplies. After seeing this I realize I have a lot of work to do. The stronger Milwaukee boxes with clear tops are a big step forward.
Yeah, I have had these cases for quite some time now. I really love how you can turn them upside down and shake them and things don’t mix. When they first came out that wasn’t the norm for most organizers but many brands do that now.
Thanks for the compliment. It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what works best, then just as you think you have it you see something better….I think perfect efficiency is unattainable but it’s fun trying to figure it out.

Makes things faster and easier. Never had that "big box of random stuff" but for those that do, organizers really help out!

I completely agree. All depends on the target application. I also use the same organizers and also a lot of others with smaller boxes. Sometimes application bound, sometimes „all sizes“ of wood or machine screws…

@@MORGANSMaintenance I work for a company called crown point builders in north Iowa. We do everything that has to do with building residential from foundation to furnishing homes and apartments. So a very wide range... Including managing and maintaining multiple rental properties.

I use to organize like you first did. But have the same problem. Starting to do it like you do now
I do a combination of the two, but my like things organizers are mostly just to restock my job specific ones.
It’s nice to know if I’m doing a drip ceiling and I grab an organizer… I have everything I need. No reminder list to make, don’t forget anything, much faster.
It’s the way to go in my opinion if you do certain jobs pretty often.

I like your idea for job specific organizing. I should've bought more of the dewalt organizers when they were on sale for $10.
Yeah it was real hard for me not to buy some of those when they went on sale. $17.99 is the cheapest I have ever got these.
Great video! I use the Milwaukee deep packout boxes for most of my organization needs. Saves me so much time by having all my parts organized for that particular job!
Yeah I need to get a few deep ones. I have some jobs that I can’t fit a few things in the ones I have because of height. I typically buy Packout with gift card money!

This is validating. I’ve been moving towards organizing jobs in the exact tool organizers. Great video!
It doesn’t work for every job (size), but I think it’s worth doing on the ones you can that you tackle frequently.
I never thought about organizers like this being job specific (although I have put some small "bins" together for "all things cabinet installation as an example.). An analogy would be having a tool belt with only pliers in it but it has all my pliers. Not very useful.....so ..... my toolbelt has a little of a lot of things to get any typical job done (screwdrivers, pliers, tape, hammer, fasteners, speedsquare, allen keys, punch, etc). Nice idea! I might just need to rethink a couple of my organizers. Thanks for the content.
Your welcome.. it’s not feasible for every job, but if you can do your most common it saves a lot of time gathering things together.

My Job specific kits go into a Packout Deep Organizer, All of the extra supplies into one of a dozen $10 Dewalt 10 compartment small parts organizer (bottom organizer of the parts stack is screwed to a $10 harbor freight moving dolly).

I’ve slowly been moving over to Packout for things I take with me off-site. Mostly so they are more sturdy for the ride but they are just so dang expensive.
Over time I will probably do the same as you…my job specific will probably all get moved to Packout and I will use the ones I already have for bulk storage. Those deep ones are nice. I have a few that I need to change to those for the extra height.

Yeah these were what they had before Packout… you used to be able to get them for $19… then they went to $29… and now I think they have quit selling them.

My friend has the packout set and I really like the look of it. I use the stanley fatmax organisers for my plumbing bits and pieces, but now I've seen your setup I think I'll pick up a few more when they go on sale again so I can clear my decks a bit. Your workshop looks a pleasure to work in.

I'm looking to making job specific tool and supply kits for my service work. I am leaning towards the packout crate with a divider insert for my job specific tools and larger supply items and an organizer (if needed) for supplies clipped onto the top.
One job for me that comes to mind is my PVC pipe kit, I've got to carry in hand tools, pipe cutter, PVC primer and glue, chamfer bits, fittings, etc. When you are gluing up 2" PVC, most of that stuff you can't fit in an organizer so I lean towards something bigger in the Packout lineup.

I have two crates and love them. Yeah there are some jobs there is no way to fit them in an organizer no matter what you do.
Milwaukee has come out with some deep organizers but 2” PVC may still be a bit big for that. The crate would probably be best.

I wish I had the space to put a bunch of pack out bins. I keep most of my door install kit ( I have the same ryobi jigs) in plastic ammo boxes in my big tool box
I’m lucky and most of my work is close to my storage areas. I don’t have to keep a lot of stuff “just in case” to save myself trips that nobody is paying for. I know that is not the normal for most people.

Great video as always. I am working on organizing and filling up my organizers. It would be awesome if you could go through your screw organizers and go through the specific screws you keep on hand. I seem to like GRK and Spax very well so far
Thanks. Those are what I have a lot of too. I typically use the exterior decking screws for framing just because I prefer T25 over Phillips. I buy a lot of screws based on bit type unless there is a reason not too. (If it has to be structural or material specific).
The red bushings in your MC organizer are called anti-short. I’m sure you know what there purpose is for those that don’t know, before putting the cut end of MC cable into the connectors you slide these thru to keep the sharp edge of armored cable from shorting out thru the wire insulation. Great video!
Yeah I use them all the time…. I may have said it wrong, but I meant I wasn’t sure why people don’t use them because I run into MC all the time where someone didn’t put them in. They give them to you with every MC Roll so I never understand why someone doesn’t use them… they are free.

Organization seems to be a constantly evolving process. This method doesn’t work well with every job or for every person, but it works great for several of mine.

Jakeofall has an adapter plate to make the old milwaukee cases work with packouts on his website.
Yeah he used to have bins for the packout that took the Dewalt Inserts but I think he quit selling those. I started looking for them when I began buying more Packout.
I would prefer that because I could just take all my bits inserts in my Dewalt cases and just move them over to a slim organizer. I like the Dewalt inserts better than the Milwaukee, but the newer Milwaukee cases coming out have inserts very similar to the Dewalt.

This is exactly how I have my organizers setup. 👍 I have found that it just makes the most sense. I know I'm doing a specific job, I can grab that kit and know I'm covered. Like you said, yeah you have to have to doubles of some things but the efficiency and peace of mind of worth it. Anything that helps lower stress and makes my job easier. Another thing is cleaning your tools at the end of a job. If it has to go back into a case or kit, clean it first so your not dirtying up your kit.
Yeah I have found this setup on certain jobs keeps me from forgetting something and It also keeps me from using something I shouldn’t just because I don’t have what I really need.
I can’t do this method for every job because sometimes it takes more than what will fit in a organizer, but I try to do it when I can.

Long time...
My organising rule is compact-modular-compatible. So rather small, meticulously labelled, fully stackable boxes with very particular content. One box with drills, other with drill bits, yet another with bits, and the next one with screws etc. Everything is separated until I need to do specific job. Then I just assemble my set using tool boxes. So if I'm doing some plumbing I take five to six boxes and a roller cart plus a vacuum cleaner. It may seem a lot, but I always have what I need. The very basic plumbing box goes with me straight away and it usually does the job. If not I go down to truck to get the rest of the boxes. Festool/Tanos systainer are the best for this role. Their only downside is that they're not so sturdy as Milwaukee/Ryobi or DeWalt counterparts.
I am not a fan of brand-oriented organising, because I'd have too many duplicated tools. We all know that although there's never "too many tools", there's always "too many identical tools".

I do a lot the same as you…. I have a little bit of a mix of both. Certain jobs you couldn’t fit it all in one box no matter how hard you try.

@@MORGANSMaintenance Many of the channels I subscribe have a regular weekly schedule for videos. Maybe that's the way? And longer videos divided into 12-15 minutes sets, so you would not be under lack-of-content pressure? And even if you have more material, you could publish it according to the schedule?

@@Stefan_Kawalec thank you! I’m feeling good now. I normally just work through it and stay away from people but you can’t do that these days (probably a good change in the way of thinking). Even if I did work, I’m not sure if I could have shot videos without a lot of coughing edits…
Hopefully it won’t take me long to get caught back up….that’s the perils of our work, when you take vacation or sick time it just piles up for when you get back. Nobody magically does it for us.

I’m my area you don’t really have to have experience “per say” to do facilities maintenance. Job experience probably does help to get paid more.
I have worked in Maintenance in factories, I have done residential maintenance, commercial maintenance, and I have been a project manager for a construction company.
I basically started at the bottom and have worked my way to where I am by always wanting to learn and making myself indispensable to my employers. Hard work eventually pays off.
I am offered jobs by most people I work around on a regular basis and never have to wonder if I will have work due to how I work.
I say all that to say… a video from me might not be the best for requirements because there aren’t really any requirements in my area. Maybe a video some day about how to thrive in and my journey in facilities maintenance.
I plan to share more personal things at some point, I’ve been waiting a bit to make sure people want to hear any of it 😂😂

I just use my iPhone… I had a Samsung note in the beginning but I think by this video I had an iPhone. It’s an 11 Pro.
I have a GoPro that I use for some work videos, but all my others I do from my phone.

@@optimalpoolcarellc1719 I have a tripod with a phone mount that I attached to a board extended out over my work bench. It keeps the legs of the tripod out from underneath me and away from my arms.
I hold the phone in a small handheld tripod with one hand when I am not at my workbench.

I use my Go Pro on a head mount.. I have used my phone on it before with a GoPro mount to phone adapter… but it’s pretty hard to use that way.
