Fun fact: Greig hated this... This is one of my favourite piece of classical music and I can't express properly how confused was I when I realized that Grieg himself hated it so much that he wasn't able to listen it. He wrote it as a joke, to ridicule Norwegian nationalism. He just created some random dumb pompous music and he was upset when nobody got the irony. After this realization, I didn't know what to think about my musical taste or critical abilities for a long time :D
Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky shares Grieg's sentiment. The two may very well have been strangers to each other, but the former called the finale to the _1812 Overture_ “very loud and noisy and completely without artistic merit, obviously written without warmth or love.” It may be a good argument, but I can't get over the fact that he used 16 cannons and a motherload of church bells. Tchaikovsky and other artists before and of his time would hate most music of our time, which is why I tend to see classical music as one of the best things to ever happen.
Yes but the fact that he wrote this as a joke doesn't mean it's crap. I think on the contrary, writing it "as a joke" was actually a way to disinhibit himself and write some "dumb pompous music". Then he pretended to hate it to not appear as a dumb pompous guy. Of course this is all a narrative, I wasn't here at the time, but my point is, if you like it, well there's something to it, even if it is dumb or pompous.

For me, the best versions of this make you fear for the orchestra's lives. The more manic it gets at the climax, the better. You almost expect instruments and people to start being catapulted out of their chairs. This is definitely the most crazed and out-of-control version I've come across. Words can't describe how much I love it.
This is actually an excellent recording of this piece. That should be mentioned in here in the comments aside from the various jokes. This is definitely one of the best recordings you can find. It's worth taking a moment to appreciate that aside from the fact that this piece has become something of a musical meme.

For me, the best versions of this make you fear for the orchestra's lives. The more manic it gets at the climax, the better. You almost expect instruments and people to start being catapulted out of their chairs.
This is definitely the most crazed and out-of-control version I've come across.
Words can't describe how much I love it.
This is probablly the funniest visual i've ever had while listening to music, thank you.
I was thinking more 'spontaneously combusting' but yours sounds better XD
I need to save this to my classical music playlist and remove the other version of this out of it
This is actually an excellent recording of this piece. That should be mentioned in here in the comments aside from the various jokes. This is definitely one of the best recordings you can find. It's worth taking a moment to appreciate that aside from the fact that this piece has become something of a musical meme.
love this song
Listening to this makes anything you do feel awesome.
I have freaking speakers FULL VOLUME that's awesome
Try listen to Archangel by Two Steps From Hell.
I know it's a modern orchestra but at least for me, it makes me want to slay a dragon or something.
First heavy metal song ever :v
Ancient heavy Metal.
the battle on ice, the very best
Hueles a hispano.
Outstanding piece, really like how it progresses. This arrangement is exceptional and very powerful, conveys the chaotic feeling that Grieg (probably) intended in his composition.
Como eu amo essa música
From 16 years old i've dedicated my life to find this song for over 70 years. in my 80s now and i finally found the song. anyway i'm dying from pneumonia and i spent all my life browsing the Inter Nets but it was worth it
Lol u died? :/
Julian17 i am wondering wheter hes dead already aswell. if yes RIP
Krzystof Wojewoda RIP :(
Damn! Rip
I love the fact you dont know if he is dead but you say rip1
When I was kid, We had a square carpet in the middle of the living room. When my mum would put this on, I would pretend to be a rabbit, and walk around the edge of the carpet. Once the music got faster, I would pretend I was being chased by a fox. At the end, i would jump onto the sofa as if I was jumping into my rabbit hole and the fox couldn't get me :P Aaaaaaaah childhood :3
That syncs up to how high I am right now perfectly. This piece of music and your rabbit story divided by my brain = huzaar for humanity xx
I would also enjoy the music, but not to this level!!!
Lovely!!! :D :D
Breakfast Zoot You should watch Peer Gynt in theater then :) Ibsen was a genius, Grieg was phenomenal. What does huzaar mean though?
Hazaar means woohoo ,yay etc.. :)
hahaha brilliant
O metaleiro das antigas.... esse som é loco
Love this song
