Fun fact: Greig hated this... This is one of my favourite piece of classical music and I can't express properly how confused was I when I realized that Grieg himself hated it so much that he wasn't able to listen it. He wrote it as a joke, to ridicule Norwegian nationalism. He just created some random dumb pompous music and he was upset when nobody got the irony. Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky shares Grieg's sentiment. The two may very well have been strangers to each other, but the former called the finale to the _1812 Overture_ “very loud and noisy and completely without artistic merit, obviously written without warmth or love.” It may be a good argument, but I can't get over the fact that he used 16 cannons and a motherload of church bells. Tchaikovsky and other artists before and of his time would hate most music of our time, which is why I tend to see classical music as one of the best things to ever happen.

I'm obsessed with it too but I don't listen to it all the time
You’re listening to it right now aren’t you

In school, I have a project that involves Norway's national romanticism and looking at all of the musicians and writers, I don't get why they are more famous for their great music. With both Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Grieg being Norwegian and has made this a great masterpiece is unbelievable to me. Big ups to norway's great national romanticism!
The second before the song goes batshit crazy is amazing. Then it gets insane, like goddamn Edvard, are you Mozart on steroids. Damn.
Him and Mozart are my favorite composers

Imagine creating this masterpiece as a joke and experimenting with bad compositions, whilst hating it, wanting it to be a message of the bad music at the time, and then it ends up actually being EPIC and ICONIC!! This guy SURE was critical of himself! 😂I don't know whether I'd be disappointed and insulted or happy and proud... lol! It's one of my FAVOURITE classical pieces! The Alton Towers theme park tune also!
Some days I like to put this on full blast and pretend that I'm conducting it

This unoriginal shit isn't funny
@@fanaticaltechpriest1002 your unoriginal insult isn't insulting. all you are doing is telling everyone that the human race is full of people who are assholes for the sake of being assholes. take the stick out your ass and enjoy life for god's sake
@@GhoulPaste But, mine good sir. The joke IS unoriginal and unfunny. And the fact that you replied to a three week old comment, just to rant about me, probably shows who is enjoying life more.
I like this reply
@@fanaticaltechpriest1002 I waited two weeks to reply to your comment just so i can say fuck you, sorry someone stood up to you when you were being a dick
I'm 17 years old. I remember when I was a little boy my father who was and still is a band teacher at my old elementary school would play this for all of the kindergartners. I always thought that the pictures were taken inside of a mountain and that the tomb was really the entrance. This video is one of the main reasons why I am who I am.
I sometimes listen to this music when I'm so high!
Just like me right now xd

I loved how this song was put into "The Witness" as a song for its final challenge which used this song for its timer so just hearing the intro is stressful as as it got faster, the closer you were to failing the challenge
First second: aah how relaxing...

Thank you for introducing me to your wonderful song. God bless you, Alton Towers.
When I was kid, We had a square carpet in the middle of the living room. When my mum would put this on, I would pretend to be a rabbit, and walk around the edge of the carpet. Once the music got faster, I would pretend I was being chased by a fox. At the end, i would jump onto the sofa as if I was jumping into my rabbit hole and the fox couldn't get me :P Aaaaaaaah childhood :3
That syncs up to how high I am right now perfectly. This piece of music and your rabbit story divided by my brain = huzaar for humanity xx
I would also enjoy the music, but not to this level!!!
Lovely!!! :D :D
Breakfast Zoot You should watch Peer Gynt in theater then :) Ibsen was a genius, Grieg was phenomenal. What does huzaar mean though?
Hazaar means woohoo ,yay etc.. :)
hahaha brilliant
This is like the 19th Century equivalent of heavy metal to me. Love every bit of it.

Truly a great song to dance at the ball.
This is actually an excellent recording of this piece. That should be mentioned in here in the comments aside from the various jokes. This is definitely one of the best recordings you can find. It's worth taking a moment to appreciate that aside from the fact that this piece has become something of a musical meme.
The best song for apocalypse zombie
what about darude-sandstorm?! I'm serious ;-;
Because it will scare 'em?
look up the remix that would do as a zombie apocalypse song
This piece of music is my school bell.….………smh

Grieg's Peer Gynt ranks right up there with the classical masterpieces!
It's like he was getting more and more furious
I remembered that he was getting stressed and anxious when he wrote that section because of a deadline
