      Another massive factor is cost as well as revenue and earnings. Much like Super GT the DTM ran very expensive purpose built cars from 2000 onward that were only used for the DTM, but as viewership revenue declined in the 2010s and development costs for the cars kept rising the Manufacturers and Organizer were looking to move the DTM into another Regulation, they chose Class 1 used in Super GT so DTM Cars could compete in Super GT and vice versa but sadly that never came to fruition. In 2018 Mercedes left and was replaced in 2019 by a Swiss Private Team fielding HWA (HWA normaly builds racecars and streetcars for Mercedes-AMG) built Aston Martins using 2.0L Turbo-Engines. They were not competitive however and the team was tighter on budget than Audi and BMW so when the Pandemic hit in 2020 they retired from the Series after just one season. Audi followed suit so only BMW was left and after a shortened 2020 Season the Decision was made to move to the GT3 Regulation for 2021.

      @@l33tnobody1337 I remember when they joined with SuperGT. For a few years, it looked like we'd still get some interesting cars out of it. Ironically both series already had similar cars, so it felt natural. I personally think DTM joining GT3 is a terrible precedent that'll lead to SuperGT doing the same.

    • @SockyNoob
      @SockyNoob Год назад +22

      Ikr. It's not like they do it out of safety either. JGTC and SuperGT, much like early GT2/GT3 and modern day GT4, used to be whatever a Japanese team could get their hands on. Then they decided to ban limited production or concept cars (which was selectively enforced considering Honda had ran the HSV-010 and NSX Concept GT), effectively keeping a lot of interesting cars out of the mix. Sad to say, but modern SuperGT is very stagnant in diversity, much like modern GT3. GT500 has always been rather bland, but GT300 was once wildly unpredictable. Now GT300 is a bunch of GT3 and DTM cars with a few dedicated SuperGT cars. Quite sad too as electric cars are gaining a foothold. One would think these series would allow a wild west shootout before it inevitably goes all electric.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a quicker 3hr recap of 1994 - 2003 seasons of JGTC, Alex Ring Driver has two videos covering that time period of races through highlights (not sure on the origins of the video content as I didn't even know SuperGT had an official year in review up on YT and found those two creators first).

    First time viewer (thanks, algorithm), really pleased I gave this vid a click. I especially enjoyed the way you covered off little side stories and examples that were relevant to the main theme.
    I find that the story of JLOC in GT500 is such a shining example of just how much work goes into running a racecar at the highest level. You really nailed it by mentioning JLOC running a single car all on their own compared to the many McLaren F1s out in the world. The data and knowledge gained by having multiple cars to lean on is massively valuable.
    It's things like being able to find optimal tyre pressures, getting an understanding of how the car behaves with different suspension alignments and spring weights, finding the brake configurations that work best, even simple stuff like driver comfort and ergonomics. And you being a Gran Turismo youtuber makes it all the more relevant - these are all things that we take for granted in the virtual world, but an actual race weekend is a very different beast as the opportunity to trial infinite combinations and variables just doesn't exist.
    Great video, looking forward to more in the future.

The story of JLOC is amazing. No matter how much they came up short or failed completely, they never threw in the towel and gave up. They kept racing and racing and racing no matter what happened and had fun doing it. the germans actually *tried* to make gt500 cars not too long ago, when dtm entered a joint venture with supergt to create the "class-1" category (which started in 2019 after *years* of tractations).
    engine regulations were still different between the two and gt500s ran rounds around the dtm cars in the measly two exhibition events they ran together, but there were genuine efforts on both parts to bring it all together (or at least, audi and bmw were very keen on racing in japan when the whole operation started in 2014 or 15). and then covid happened... dtm switched to gt3 because they just couldn't maintain class-1 cars and the astronomical costs attached to them (mercedes had withdrew from the project in 2018 just before they were fully introduced - replaced by aston martin, to *dismal* results - and audi and bmw said stop in late 2020, after only two years of the cars actually being run, the switch to gt3 being the only thing that saved dtm because the championship was itself about to go under after the health crisis). the class-1 rules stayed in gt500, though, and supergt teams now find themselves with cars developped to joint-european regulations that they never actually meant to run in europe (and that they never even called "class-1" to begin with), while the german cars that maybe could have run in japan just disappeared into thin air. because money and bad luck.

That had been awesome. I know the f50 wasn't looked upon favorably, but I absolutely loved the design. But still the Diablo might just be my favorite car ever amongst all that I love. I had no idea, after at the time, I think 6 or 7 years of playing it over and over again that there was a car that I had never seen before. I fell in love with it immediately and was obsessed about finding a way to play the Japanese version for years. About 10 or so years later, I finally got my wish and played the Japanese version. But I didn't know what fucking event you win it in. So after lots and lots of Googling, I found it! 1/4 chance of getting it in the 78 laps at Monaco Endurance race. Incredibly, I managed to get it on my first try!
    Yeah, that car wasn't that good aye. It was definitely the quickest but it didn't have the best handling. Although I don't hate the car, and actually had a lot of fun on the journey to get it, The Denso Sard Supra is still my number one.

    If u have more ideas of untold stories like this that u could make a video out of, u could easily make a sieries out of them. As a gran turismo fan it would be nice to learn the background of some of the cars which haven't got much recognition. Apart from that i must really admit that i slightly prefer your gt videos (with my favorite being the nostalgia one) the reason is that no matter how much i 've searched on yt u are the only channel that discusses deeper and more controversial topics than just the economics of gt7

    Man this was such a great video about a topic I was always curious about but no one seemed to talk about it. It was really hype when you described their most successful race and Victory Road played in the background. I really wish the best for JLOC, they're such an awesome team!

    Wish you do more of these in the future, theres so many interesting stories you could talk about, like for example the story of Schnell SDR, the team that entered for only one race in 97 and then vanished, or the story of the Advance Auto Camaro❤❤

    The Volvo 850 Super Touring Car (an estate car) from 1994 is one of my favourite cars with a story like this.

    • @OsellaSquadraCorse
      @OsellaSquadraCorse Год назад

      That was the Volvo 850 Estate. The Volvo 850 (Class 2) Super Tourer was raced mainly in saloon form, in 1995 and 1996. so "The Volvo 850" doesn't mean the estate necessarily.
      The estate wasn't really under Super Touring rules tho, the rule change to the aero was what made the change to the saloon partly necessary, and was a lot more successful; tho the estate was damn rapid!

    • @insertgenericusernamehere2402
      @insertgenericusernamehere2402 Год назад

      @@OsellaSquadraCorse oh I know the saloon was rapid. But I'm on about a car that wasn't so successful but was idolised by fans all the same. The one that Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers drove in the BTCC 94 season(it was called a super touring because that was the class they participated in until the 95 season, the super touring was started in 93, the most iconic probably being the silver and red Audi A4 or the Renault laguna with that yellow and blue livery) switched to the saloon for the 95/96 season and rickard went to go on and win the championship in 98.

    Funnily enough, GT500 cars are closer to the Hypercar cars of the WEC than GT3 cars in terms of performance. Yes, I know they're technically closer to LMP2 cars, but I'm going more on the fact that the Hypercar could supposedly spawn road cars, which we all know ended up being kinda BS.
    What I'm saying, is that the Supra GT500 is closer to the GR010 than it is to the Lexus RC-F GT3, to put the example of Toyota.

    I own a 1998 diablo. I bought it with a blown up engine for $4,100. I built a 2002 diablo SV engine with diamond forged pistons, titanium rods that took me a year to save for, custom ground cams, fully ported, port matched and polished heads shaved two thousandths of an inch. I built my own equal length headers and stainless 4 inch collectors to an oval 5 inch merge then out into dual 3 1/2 inch into a stock murcialago muffler i bought on ebay, out the center of the rear bumper. Custom, self built Reiger/KW coilovers that work better than both of them did combined before i did all the mods and made them into the priceless, frankenstien, one off units they are now. I had them powdercoated purple and the springs gold they look so sick. It runs on a haltech nexus g2, milspec wiring i did myself, the cage is completely seam welded to the unibody, a, and c pillars. I run it on ignite e90 and 3 stages of N2o that dont hit until wide open in 2nd gear. In third the 2nd kit comes on, 4th 5th and 6th its all 3 kits, all 300hp. In 5th gear it made 1091 wheel horsepower 622 tq. Its an absolute screaming menace of an automobile. Its completely blacked out with purple inners and black outers on the 19x10/20x12 3 piece wheels and gold lugs. It does 236mph on the limiter in 6th and gets there in just over 13 seconds. Its BLINDINGLY fast. But it doesnt really feel like armegeddon is happening like my 800whp b5 s4 does. That car is so violent i dont like to drive it with a passenger. It scared my wife so bad shell never ride in it again. It just hits THAT hard ya know? All wheel drive man.
