Flagg took extra classes to graduate early so he could reclassify, he should just be getting ready for his Senior year in HS not his Freshman year in college, makes what he is doing even more impressive.
Most people don’t know about him skipping a year. Side note; would love to see him and VJ edgecombe share the court together somewhere, both of them have such a high IQ and natural talent for the game.

The U.S. has never sent a High School Basketball Player to the Olympics. However Bill Walton did play for team USA in the FIBA championships as a high schooler. He is the only player to make a men's senior team. However, a few have been invited to try out including Patrick Ewing and Alonso Mourning.
There was a conspiracy to keep Shaq off the dream team. Shaq would have stole all the spotlight from the NBA players. Shaq would have been the media darling for sure.
As a Duke fan I didn’t buy into the hype until I saw how great physically he looked against the best players in the league. He’s definitely a legit 6’10” with great athleticism. Didn’t really buy it before
That was my exact hold up as well. It’s one thing to look dominant in HS but to look this fluid and to have this motor against the TOP NBA guys. Wow. I hope he comes to Portland but he will be great wherever he goes.
Yeah I know what you mean because his build and the fact he doesn’t really need to showcase footspeed like that in HS lead me to question his overall athleticism but as you said he checks out. In fact he reminds me most of KD at the same age who was built similar.
Hope the kid stays healthy. Could be the cornerstone for any franchise and the next face of the NBA. When watching Flagg's play it's hard to believe he's only 17 and still has never set foot on the court as a Blue Devil. And, I say all of this as a Tar Heels fan.
Eh...Too different of positions for that to really make sense to me. Unless.. they both or at least one of them gets a perfect team around them like Curry with the Warriors back then, and LeBron with the Cavs with K Love, Irving, and all those other role players. It's certainly possible but for now Wembys rival truly is Chet. It's so funny how people dismiss it just simply because Wembys is clearly better....When they play against each other Chet doubles his impact and gives Wemby a great matchup. He drove on and through Wemby like 5 or 6 times in the first half alone in that last matchup of the year. He's a lot taller than Flagg, so while I do believe Flagg will be the more dominate NBA player the age, the length, the rosters as of now makes a lot more sense for Chet to be a rival for Wemby as Wemby has a lotttt of catching up to do as far as having a complete roster around him but because of this in the meantime that bridges the gap well between the two. Calling it now their games next year will be historic, at least 2 of the matchups will be remembered very well.
Wembanyama will probably be the next GOAT. Although Flagg looks like he'll be a superstar, I don't see him giving Wembanyama a run for his money. Future GOATs don't grow on trees.
I think Wemby will average something like 28pts, 10reb, 3.5blk this year and Chet will be like 20pts, 9reb, 3blk. Looking so forward to it man. Spurs I could see being a play in team THIS year. Hopefully they can be above .500 but that's a tall task these days with the depth of the west.
Christian Laetner wasn't a high school kid when he was chosen for the Olympic team, he was the best college player in the United States getting ready to be drafted in the NBA.
I think a good comp for Flagg would be like Andrei Kirilenko with much better offense. I don't know that he'll ever be the best offensive player in the league, but he'll be transcendent defensively and good enough to build around on the other end.
I wonder if the Spurs are tanking to match Flagg with Wemby. That would be a crazy team. Popovich built a great team, and he's President of the Spurs now.
As a Nets fan I'd be quite happy to see Ben Simmons launching logo 3s every time he touches the ball next season. Cam Thomas will be, but he will get hot and hit a bunch and might accidentally snag a win , so we need Simmons launching from 3. Claxton at PG bringing the ball up, hand off to Simmons for the logo 3, that's what I want. :D
As a Sixers fan we would have been overjoyed if Ben did that…while trying to win actually. He’s actually not a bad shooter believe it or not from deep as much as he refuses to shoot them.
I do expect you to experiment with a lot of Claxton + Clowney lineups, that in limited minutes looked really rough offensively but very good defensively. Gonna be Cam Thomas iso ball only on offence 😭
2-3 yrs ago this kid would've baffled me. Id been amazed at this high school kid playing so well so early. It's just that since Wemby made his NBA debut this season, I don't think any kid on his way to the league is gonna surprise me anymore. Since watching a 19yr old 7'4 anomaly that moves like he's 6'3 I feel like I've officially seen it all. Wemby would literally block the shot recover the ball take it all the way down the court to the other end and score. He literally hit pullup 3's & tosses legitimate dime passes... Idk, I guess I'm just trying to say I'm not so easily surprised anymore at young talent on its way to the league.. you literally can't even make a Wemby build on 2k. Kids a living cheat code.
I got so excited about all of this sitting at the target snack bar and ordering not one but two soft serve vanilla ice cream cones. Think about it not one but two.
Here’s the crazy part: if the Hawks somehow suck this season despite having the top overall pick, they might get into the lottery again. If they hit the jackpot, that pick goes to the Spurs. Cooper Flagg x Victor Wembanyama.
I’m a Duke fan but the hype being put on this young man is unrealistic. He played scrimmages against these guys and had some bright moments. He will have some struggles like all freshmen do. Wouldn’t doubt if he is not the top pick of the draft. As quick as these people have built him up they will be there to tear him down. Hope he has great year at Duke and is playing his best ball at the end of the season

Laetnerr was in college and had made an amazing year at duke. He was not in high school
There is no precedent for a HS player being an Olympic athlete. Laetner is not a comp. He was a seasoned collegiate athlete. This dude is not dumb, he knows his hoops a little. This video is ridiculous though. Please don't listen to this over reaction.
What will be scary is if the spurs do somehow get the 1st overall pick and having the ability to draft flag it will be one of the young exciting front courts we have seen in a long time
He also reclassified. Technically he should still be in high school next year. So it's like they took a guy who just finished his junior year of high school.
Christian Laettner was in college and was headed into the draft. The only reason he made the team is because Michael Jordan boycotted Isaiah Thomas from being on the team.
I think cooper is definitely legit playing like this against the best of the best. Only concern is it looks like he has some thumb flick on the ball, gives it a weird rotation
Laetner was 22 and already drafted to the NBA when he was on the Dream Team. Flagg has time. Personally I think they should give opportunities to guys like Jaylen Brown first.

Look at what else stands out on that list of men's select team players. There's a dude named Micah Potter who is a free agent out of Wisconsin. Who is on a very short two-way contract with the Jazz. How did he get on a team that is mostly the young up-and-coming guys in the NBA? Also Langston Galloway and Nigel Hayes - Davis. Never heard of either of those dudes but they're also on that team. I'm guessing that they play in Europe or are unsigned free agents that somehow fit the bill of the competition that the regular starting players on the national team need . I don't know....
