Sick car and sick sounds. Congrats bud, glad you decided to run the rotary. I don’t think to many people will be concerned with hp numbers. The fact that you saved this iconic car from a scrap yard will be plenty! ☄️
Stoked to see this thing run! I’m glad that you decided to stick with the rotary and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Congrats on the progress broski, keep killing it 🙌🏻
Lokey I was working on a BRZ once and I was taking off a transmission the 3rd time alone and I pulled my lower back and it hurt until I got home but I prayed for my back and it was healed the next day 🙌🏻💯
i am so pumped you did not abandon the rotary build. RX7 has been one of my dream cars since the late 90s, will just have to live vicariously through you 😂 congrats on the startup!
The relay box full of water... a trick I picked up from a junkyard was putting the wet stuff in an oven on the "keep warm" setting ro around 150 degrees F. Let em sit and evap for a while, then disassemble and clean all connections. Some of the little components are getting harder to find, so just a way to try and save old parts on the fence.

I’ve only seen a hand full in person but each time the love grows just like my Subaru, I’ve had the chance to own a 2004 wrx and 2011 wrx that’s currently running
CONGRATS TANNER!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉 Its soooo amazing to see the rx7 turn over!! I am eager to see what all you do to it!! Fb's are readily available and fairly cheap. They are a TON of fun!! I got mine to run!!! It was very loud as its manifold to nothing. Parts for them are fairly easy to find aswell!
You need one of those pneumatic vacuum canisters like a mightyvac MV7300. I do coolant and power steering, brake fluid, all kinds of things with that thing. If you are creative you can vacuum fill cooling systems with it, and I use it to vacuum air out of steering systems too. Makes a huge difference especially with all the fluid work you are doing on multiple vehicles. Good going on the engine start! All the smoke is mostly all the fuel that was dumped in it when it wasnt sparking lol A full send will clear that mess up!
I had the injectors disabled when cranking it over to find spark 🫡 a lot of the smoke was oil, Vaseline, and assy lube that I had in the rotor housing for lube. 😅 I'll definitely look into one. It would.make life a hell of a lot easier for bleeding things 😅
If you thought warming up a Subaru was important... It should be a priority to get those apex seals expanded before shutting it off. RX7 is a whole new level of maintenance. I should have never sold my FC. Damn, this makes me miss it so much 😢 But grats on your first start up! It takes a lot of commitment. You should feel proud of yourself 💪

It’s amazing. Imagine this car on the cover of Super Street 20 years ago! The evolution of automotive technology is amazing! But ultimately it’s really about the builder. 👏🏽
It looks so good, and it sounds even better! Very excited to see how it comes out, imo just seeing one run is so great that I don't even care how much power it makes lol
Tits Minty!!!!!! So happy for you, brother!!! I'm glad to see a big smile after having big doubts. Now, some little things and the mean green seveen will be the best gal at the ball!!! :sidebar, keep the original gauges, major bonus to have them intact...✨️💯✨️👍
Congrats, I've had my RX7 for decades and haven't been inside the engine yet. I removed the first engine (coolant seals failure, around 75k miles) but went the easy route replacing with a compression-tested JDM pullout engine back when those were less of a crapshoot. Keep a very close eye on that oil thermostat, I don't trust the way the SakeBomb kit mounts it to the front cover. If you search rx7club you might find a few people who claim theirs have come loose and caused major oil pressure problems.
I'm going to relocate the thermostat. It's already leaking, so thereno sense in keeping it there. And thank you! I'm absolutely excited to see this thing running 🥳 I've always wanted one of these, but with the prices for a clean running FD. It's just absurd 😅 glad that I snagged this one to be able to understand how they work a bit better. This one originally suffered from coolant seal failure too at 85K miles 😅
@@Smeedia today's prices are crazy, I would probably get a different car for $40k USD or whatever people are paying for ready-to-drive FDs with moderate mileage. Price for low-mileage collector ones are even crazier, but I'm not in that market in the first place. Be sure to set up all the engine protection things in your ECU: oil pressure protect, fuel pressure protect, lean O2 protect, and if there's a way to flash a big warning on the dash for crank signal errors I would do that too. I think I've added 20k miles to my car's second engine, so hopefully it's got a few more years left in it. I've got my ECU triggering the fans around 90 degrees C, so it's running cooler than what the first engine experienced. Stock ECU triggers them around 105 degC.
