- A lot of people know me as just the Subaru guy. While I love Subarus long before I ever got into just Subarus I loved many cars. One of these cars specifically is the Mazda FD RX7. I picked this car up about a year ago and have slowly been tinkering with it over the past few months getting it running. But I want to do a full restoration and proper build on this car as it is one of my all-time favorites. So that is what we are going to do. I want to turn my 1993 FD RX7 into a proper SEMA car that I can drive and restore from a full frame-up Paint Job to replacing everything that needs it and making this car whole again.

FDs are truly a timeless car, out of the Japanese scene, the 2000GT, FD, GT-R, Supra MK4, Z cars, some definite classics.

I think either Sliver, Yellow or Bright Red would look amazing and really accentuate the body lines of the RX-7.

That Mazda “competition yellow mica” or whatever it’s called is a beautiful color. That’s my vote for paint! You need one of those rotisseries for blasting and painting the chassis now lol.
That would be nice to have 🤌 the yellow is what I’m heavily leaning towards right now. I’m torn between that and white 😅

BMW Austin Yellow Pearl B67 would be a great color for this. You don't drive into the sunset, you are the sunset. Also, RX7's have always reminded me of a dragon, something about the curves in the rear spoiler area and the front bumper. A nice golden scale would suit this beautiful immaculate dragon with the respect it deserves.
Regardless, what a series this is going to be.
My vote is for the mazda soul red. Especially with the body of the rx7 the pearl in that paint will make it absolutely pop.
You should definitely paint it that nice oem Mazda yellow. The yellow rx7 is one of the only yellow cars I like. It just fits it well.
Paint it Frozen Berry Metallic.... that color in person is special. and on that car....

Mazda's Soul Red Crystal paint would be awesome, it would tie in with the theme of being perfect and keep the color code in with the mazda family. Also i'm excited to see all the upcoming work on it and striving for perfection because this car deserves it!

Come to las vegas. SEMA is always popping here. And of course it's vegas you'll have a blast. So much stuff to do here. I live 5 minutes from the strip. Literally right down the road.

Personally I vote for red. Either the OEM red or possibly something more crimson. That would look fire. White would also look super clean as well as yellow for sure. You really can't go wrong with the FD. As long as it pops.

Personally, I like a dark blue for the RX-7. I saw one in a deep blue metallic once. It looked amazing. I like dark colors though. You do you.

@@Smeedia I like that it’s a 2 rotor. With rotary prices going insane with Mazda dropping support plus the lighter weight and better oiling the 2 rotor is just a great choice. A 3 or 4 rotor is *really* cool but just incredibly impractical.

Color wise. Def OEM color. But something also that pops. It is a show car style your going for after all, “Spirited Green Metallic”, “Competition Yellow”, “True Red”, “Racing Orange”

This is gonna be a great series to follow, at some point the IG algorithm started spamming me with RX7's in Japan and I am all for it. I'd love to have my own, but unfortunately WRXs just make a lot more sense in Alaska than an FD lol
I vote doing the rx7 in a bright color like lime green or a candy red. Also would be dope if you put some sound proofing in there to give it a luxury car feel when you climb in and shut the door. (Since you're already stripping it down to the frame anyways, it would be super ideal time to do it.)

Most cars that go to Dena are towed or don’t run. I wanna be able to have it have the show and go to be able to go all the way there and back 🙌

You may want to look at stitch welding more of the chassis together while ya got it torn all the way down. It make a huge difference in these chassis.
I’ll look into this, I’m already welding some of the holes on the chassis shut so might as well while I’m in there

Either Sun Burst Yellow or Innocent Blue mica were the best colors ever produced for the FD!!

Good luck building a Sema quality car. People take years to build something worthy of Sema. Every detail needs to be top notch, good enough isn't enough. Prepare for over the top aesthetics, lots of shiny blingy bits and hope you got the money to fund it as every single part of the car that can be seen (and some that can't be seen!) will need to be overhauled :)

Looking forward to this build! My vote is for the new Mazda Candyapple Red (?) color... it's one of my favorite shades of red these days. Or go w/a very bright Red. If you want it to stand out go bright.

A yellow RX7 has always been one of my dream cars, however I am an absolute sucker for white too! Whichever you decide, I am very much looking forward to the end result!

I think the car would look awesome in Porsche "Oslo" blue and/or Porsche "Nato Olive" both such unique colors! Either way I've always loved white on my cars... my 10' Hatch is White 🙌

I'm probably in the minority, but I really liked this car in Millennium Jade! It was unique and understated but in a way that really stood out.
Regardless of what color you end up going with, I'll be stoked to see this baby come back to life better than ever. Can't wait to see it happen.

I’m with everyone this is the most exciting build. You answered the question, will you be going to SEMA? That will be amazing to see you and the RX-7 go. I feel the car should be painted competition yellow mica. It was the rarest color offered here in America with only 350 of them available in the US.
Yellow is at the top of my list right now, doing some digging into how difficult it is to paint 😅
The first FD I ever saw was red it was glorious..my 94 348 is Toro Rosso it just glows red but the point I m making is similar vintage and lovely curves look amazing in Red

Honestly, I've been watching for a while and I don't usually comment on anything, and it may not be the vibe or era you're going for, but the mazda soul red crystal metallic is a beautiful color and so is the deep crystal blue mica. They're newer colors for sure but they would keep the mazda soul and give it a bit more of a modern look. Whatever you decide on I'm sure it will turn out amazing though!
That colors come up a bit, someone suggest I check it out in person. So ima keep an eye out for one driving around 🙌
Two color suggestions for the RX7…Deep Forrest Green, matte or satin. I personally don’t see enough RX7 in that color. I’d not that than go all out with an iridescent paint job. Either one I feel will put you over to the next level!
As far as engine, I haven’t seen you do a twin turbo set up. I know it was a thought with Blu but go original with the FD !!

@@Smeedia has me feeling like I did when I got my wrx shell, the car was BARE when I picked it up and as it’s nearing completion it’s far from perfect but it’s still very clean as it is
Mazdas soul red crystal is one of my fav paints and I'm not a red car guy. If you havent seen it in person go to your local dealer and check it out. I think any attention grabbing timeless color would be great though. It's a lot of work to strip it to just paint it white unless its some crazy pearl candy thing. I love that your uping the game to take it to Sema. Whatever you do I'm sure it's going to be sick. So glad it didn't become another ls swap

its always hard to take apart a perfectly good running car, I did it with my vh45 s13 to put a 1jz in it, but it'll be worth it. i'm excited for this build

For the color, I would recommend Mazda's Soul Red that they put on the newer cars. I've always loved the color since they originally unveiled it, and putting it on a classic Mazda just seems fitting.

I'm a huge mazda fan. I have 2 mazdaspeed 3's one is 525whp and other is my daily mostly stock. But I love all cars and really enjoy all your content from subaru to anything u want to build.

Mazda's soul red crystal is what I want to paint my FD someday. Too bad you said in another comment you don't like red though. But anyways you definitely want something with a lot of depth to the color. I love my mustang's kona blue metallic for it's depth and it also has some purple color shifting in it too.
