- Its been quite a ride the last month. July 15th was the 4th annual VW Nationals at Pacific Raceways and I was able to get 5 passes in. I unfortunately red lit in the first round of eliminations though; whoops! This little 1600 with AMR500 didn't disappoint. I had a 16 second goal and was able to crush that running a 15.47 with 13psi of boost AND I drove the car back on the trailer. A perfect day in my book 💯😊👌
Thanks to my friends that stopped into the pits and lent a hand in between rounds. You're the best!
Loving your videos... Now you have me looking on Amazon for one of these AMR500. might be able to get my bus up to freeway speed for once! :-) Didn't notice you were local until this video. Tacoma here!
I am building a 1776cc forged engine, how much psi can make that supercharger for this motor ?
Hey Mario the bug was looking good from the stands keep up the good work
Thank you!!
Thanks! Did you come through the pits at all? Or just put your car in the show?
Mario Velotta Jr no I didn't make it down in the pits just brought my wife's bug this year still working on my engine. Man that little 1600 is impressive Ferdinand would be proud:)
Is running a supercharger in a stock vw in a HOT climate a really bad idea? I´ll have to check out your other vids but i´d be interested in how much your intake temps went up... but your using some sort of water\ethanol injection right?
If you would like to run more than 10psi, yes you will want water/meth or an intercooler. I had to use so much water that my boost would drop. I have an intercooler I would like to put on and try and make it over the 100hp mark with this 1600. With my 13psi pulley and no additional cooling intake temps would be 250f+. That was a problem :)
@@thedubshop Thanks Mario!!
What all have you done to your bug? did you just put on the supercharger on the stock engine? I'm new to this type of stuff and am thinking about upgrading my bugs engine. Mine is completely stock and I wanna make it a bit faster, but still reliable as my daily driver.
My bug is a testbed. So I'm always putting new stuff in and taking old stuff out. This is a stock long block, heads and cam. I had to upgrade the stock clutch when going above 5psi. I went with a stage 1 p.p. and daikin clutch disk and that has been good to 13psi at the track.

What pulley did you use tu make 13 psi?
I think I was running a 55mm pulley at the time, with a full size MST serpentine pulley.
How where the size of the throttle bodies you used?
It is a single 48mm throttle body. You can find ALL the info here - shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=150318
Hi Mario, Can that set up be used for a bigger engine? I have a 1915.
It can be, but you will be limited. If you are only after 5 or 6 psi then it's manageable.
Where can i get this compressor kit in orange county ca
This is a kit I make and it needs to be used with EFI.
How do you install the AMR500 in your bug?
Sorry for my english
Check out this forum for more info www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=150318
What was the 1/8 mile times for this wicked little ride and do you think a blow through setup with 34mm dual empi carbs on an all stock except Engle 100 cam 1641 would be good
Check the end of the video, I have a time slip posted :) Your combo should work well!
Olá queria saber se realmente aumentou a potencia com o supercharger Amin,Queria saber se tem muita durabilidade o compressor. Foi preciso forjar o motor o fui pistões e bielas originais do motor? Obrigado
This is a bone stock long block and heads. No forged parts installed. The AMR500 is a very durable supercharger when used in a small engine application.

Hi Mario nice videos, I'm also looking at supercharging my 1600 DP bug, so can I leave my engine completely bone stock and just add the charger? I'm not looking too melt the streets, just a little bit more every day fun.
I have one of the following 2 options, buy the amr500 $155 or use a Eaton m62 a got from a friend for free, but I would have to shorten the snout somehow I think🤔 what would you recommend?
Kind regards
If the M62 was from a Mercedes with the stubby pulley, that might be better. Otherwise the AMR500 will work just fine. You can make 5 to 6 pis without trouble and have much fun with it. As you can see the stock 1600 will take abuse from it just fine at 10+ psi :)
@@thedubshop thank you, for the advice , I found your online shop now, will be in touch 😁 one last thing do you offer international shipping?
That great and yes I do!
@@flyatcento Het jy al die supercharger op jou bug geinstalleer?
@@henkvaneeden9054 Nee haha Sal later die jaar
Is a 1600cc or you modificated too 1915cc
This is a stock 1600 longblock.
@@thedubshop did you make the car lighter? The weather is very good for the power it has, I have a 1679cc and it has only been 19 seconds
I don't have any interior, so the car is lighter than stock. But with a 8 point roll bar and all my extra EFI components. Without the roll bar it was about 1800lbs with me in it if im recalling correctly, that has been probably 10 years since I've weighed it.
0-60mph Time?
The time slip is at the end of the video.
@@thedubshop ........lol time slip doesn't show 0 to 60mph.....but with a 104mph trap speed, it should be at least a mid to low 13 second car which usually is like, what, 5ish seconds for a 0 to 60.
@@willsprecher3784 104mph was the Golf in the other lane

CUANTOS HP?
I estimate 80-90hp 110-120tq at the wheels, I'll have real numbers once I can get to the dyno.
