Who’s ready for an absolutely wild petrol v EV drag race?!
Mat’s got his hands on the awesome Porsche 911 GT3 RS and he’s going up against a classic VW Beetle… Which has had the engine ripped out and replaced with a battery & motor from a Tesla Model S!
When it comes to the stats, we need to start off with the Beetle, don’t we? It was originally released in 1972, and thanks to the Model S battery & motor it can put down 450hp & 675Nm of torque! It’s still pretty damn light, weighing in at around 1,050kg.
As for the Porsche, it’s certainly got the power advantage over the VW, with its 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six producing 520hp & 470Nm! It’s a fair bit heavier though, tipping the scales at 1,430kg.
So will electric power prevail? Or will the Porsche leave the Beetle in its wake? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The more I watch Matt, the more I realize how good he is at driving, his launches are almost perfect every run he does. There’s so many people who find it hard to get those perfect.

It's always such a pleasure to watch your videos. Your enthusiasm is so genuine and wonderfully British. Such a relief from the phony America presenters I see so often on RUclips. It's watching videos like this that makes me miss living in London. After 20 years living in SE Asia I've become a scooter rider which is not quite as exciting as the vehicles you get to drive. That having been said the streets of Saigon can be pretty scary at times.

Old cars getting a new lease of life from a Tesla motor is actually an amazing idea! I hope manufactures catch on to it and start producing Miata like cars with ev motors instead of crossovers

Looking at GT3 speedo it seems like it max out at ~130mph.
I'd say a little less than 130mph cos at 128mph Matt was gaining on him, so he may have topped out at 126/127mph.
Aside from Yanni, i think Richard needs to feature more often with his electric cars. Top bloke!

I’m pretty certain it was the car that Guy Martin tried to do his record breaking run in. If it is, they took it to a wind tunnel. Without mods it would have taken off.

Current top gear isn't that bad. Yeah we should forget about the Chris Evans season, but the others are all at the very least decent. And IMO current top gear is definitely better than the first season and the last few eps of the grand tour. Like I love the old gang, but they have lost some of their magic. (2nd and 3rd season of GT were pretty good though)

@@MisticDW Chris Harris is definitely a better car journalist than even all 3 combined and with paddy and Freddie it's pretty funny as well. Why the need to keep hating on it? Just be happy we have a good, big budget car show there are very few of those left. In my experience most people hating on current top gear haven't even watched the recent episodes, because it's not the trio. Just give it a chance and be open minded. It's not like the trio is so amazing themselves. Season 1 of the grand tour for example was an absolute dumpster fire IMO. Thankfully they got a bit on track the later seasons, but the last 2 specials felt horribly scripted again and just weren't that great. I'd watch, but wouldn't watch it twice unlike top gear.
@@markeldik7057 I don't care, I want to be entertained, if I want car journalism I'll read a magazine, I'm hating because the show is dead without the trio, they should have just killed of Top Gear. I'm not alone, TG used to be one of the most watched shows in the world for a reason, now it's not.

I’d say that was a win for the beetle, he won the drag race, he got a much a better start in the rolling race, it’s not his fault his car max’s out at 130mph. That Beetle is rapid
