  • Johannas Persson owner of JP Motorsport was at the SCC event in Norway competing in his 1963 VW Beetle. It is fitted with a 1584cc engine 69x85.5mm, with std valves 35.5mm intake and 32mm exhaust, as per the rules of the class, but then with added head work, cams, and fuel injection.
    Rules
    Aircooled VW based engine with 2 valve technique
    Displacement 1584 cc (1600+-3cc)
    Piston size 85,5 mm (+- 0,5 mm)
    Stroke 69 mm (+- 0,1 mm)
    Valve size 35,5 mm intake, 32 mm exhaust (+- 0,1 mm)
    Normally aspirated or ONE power adder - it's up to you
    Nitromethane prohibited
    Johannes competed in the N/A / Race class (so no forced induction, but with slicks)
    Classes
    Naturally Aspirated (NA): Engine only run with carburetors or EFI - No Nitrous Oxide or Nitromethane
    Power Adder (PA): Engine with ONE power adder i.e. turbo, blower or NOS - no Nitromethane
    Street: A car of "standard" type - basically built for street use with no bigger changes done apart from possible roll-cage etc
    Race: A car primarily built for Drag Racing or other racing purposes
    Johannes ran several low 12 second runs, but with a best, (and a NEW WORLD RECORD ) of 12.34 @ 106.6mph

    As a fellow 1600 modified Beetle owner i really appreciate the work that has gone into this machine. I doubt my bug tops 80BHP. 193 BHP with stock stroke and heads/valves is incredible!

      Yeah, i'm trying to get my head around it.... its all about the flow and higher compression then??

    • @martinharris5017
      @martinharris5017 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@mikescudder4621 I'm guessing compression and cam are major factors and probably some big carb venturis for maximum flow.
      For comparison: I have a fully rebuilt stock block. Stock 69mm crank, stock barrels and pistons. W100 cam which is a mild street upgrade. The heads have been ported but with stock valves. 12lb flywheel and header, single 1 3/4 inch SU carb. I put the engine together with careful attention to detail for reliability not top-end performance.
      I can't imagine how you'd get that setup from 80-ish BHP all the way to 190+ without a turbo, but cam, compression and carburetion must be the key.

    • @mikescudder4621
      @mikescudder4621 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@martinharris5017 Cool Martin, thats pretty close to what i'm doing, stock with the w100! I'm doing the whole blue printing and balancing process. SU carbs are awesome, where did you get the idea to use an SU carb? Down here in Brazil SU carbs are highly sought after for vw engines! Its a youtubers fault of course... even with a turbo i wouldn't expect to make 190HP!

      @@mikescudder4621 Hi Mike, I haven't but the motors largely stock parts, built by GAC (Formula Vee manufacturer), 1285cc magnesium case, factory twinport heads with stock sized three angled 33x30mm valves (bigger valves simply won't fit), lot of head work, stock pistons but the piston tops were clearanced for the extra valve lift and the outer piston edge domed on a lathe (creates extra turbulence) stock barrels have mild clearancing near the valves to get better air flow between the valve and the edge of the barrel (as its tight!). Engle FK10 cam with Empi ratio rockers (1.25 inlet 1.1 exhaust) counterweight crank, Empi H beam rods, 10.5lb flywheel, EMPI 44HPMX twin carbs, Porsche 911 style cooling, merged 1.5 inch exhaust with custom silencer. CR is 10.5:1 running on Sunoco 102 octane racing fuel. 126bhp@7300rpm 97lbft@5000-7000rpm. It has ZERO torque below 4500rpm so you have to slip the clutch and rev the crap out of it just to get it on the car trailer and during a race it manages about 6 miles to the gallon!
