    I enjoyed the switching video. You did a great job on your background structures and weathering them. I especially like the light blue structure in the corner. Hi John, I am honored to hear I have inspired you with your layout. You have done an outstanding job working with the space you have. It was very smart to select one industry and make that the focus of your layout. Please contact me at tklimoski@gmail.com and I'll discuss a few options you can consider for switch lists for your layout. I use a simple excel spread sheet format for my switch lists that you could easily modify for your operation. Thanks for listening to my AML pod cast episode, if I knew there were going to be so many questions on how many articles and videos I did I would have studied! ;) -Tom

    Expansion without new benchmark? Universal Paper (now Saddle Creek Logistics) in Florence Township, NJ., used to have two parallel tracks for their docks. They would put ramps between boxcars to access the outside cars from the docks. Wondering if you have room for your tan building. Greatly enjoy your videos!

    Maybe for retirement or if I can win the lottery or become a recipient of fortune I would certainly move in this direction of model trains as I grew up with a rail line when I lived with my parent's that was right behind the house. It's amazing how authentically model rail cars are made today even with rotating bearings. When I was a kid that's what was always the first thing that made model trains and manifest freight cars still that lesser than the reality of life sized trains - no rotating bearings and bearings that looked nothing like the life sized trains here in America. Your layout is exemplary and beckons a place I would like to park my truck next to and observe rail action switching so to speak.

      These are the Walthers figures with orange vests. I just painted them with a bright yellow.

    How did you pick up the railroad worker buy the tank car

      The figure is just a Walthers figure that I repainted. I believe it is from their recent release of "workers"

    Roy Smith's Dispatch video sent me. Shelf layouts can be terrific. Here's another guy who inspired me to build one: MOG

      Thanks! I have been a huge fan of his layout as well. That is where I came up with the bracket shelf design.

    What are the dimensions to your layout? Love the weathering!

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  4 года назад +1

      Thank you. It is 18 inches deep by 8 feet long. The small extension under the layout for switching is an extra 3 feet.

      Oh yes. My bad... auto correct. lol I meant at the end to the right.

      What paint did you use so it doesnt flake off?

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  5 лет назад +1

      I used various paints. Vallejo, Tamiya and Testors fluorescent Yellow. All acrylic except the Testors yellow. The trick is to dull coat them once finished to seal the paint as well as give a more realistic look.

    • @RailserveJohn

      No I only use a uncoupling pick to uncouple.

    Good o'l corn syrup, the only tanks without placards and the reason America's getting fat. I've worked on a Railroad and often wondered, if one of these tanks were to bust open, just how big a mess would there be?

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  4 года назад

      I always thought I was missing placards until I realized there wasn’t supposed to be any lol

      @@RailserveJohn You do fantastic work, when I used to have an HO layout, I could never come close to your skill level. To be honest I handled three actual tanks not requiring Haz-Mat placards, Corn syrup (1), Candle Wax (2) (black tank with words WAX stenciled on sides) and white tanks with clay slurry (if you want a real challenge in weathering try one of those. This clay slurry is a sloppy white slop used in the production of paper and each full tank weighs 200,000 pounds each. Wanna see some cars get pushed down a classification track, just release five or so of these tanks coupled together, off a hump, when they couple with the other cars. it's like a battering ram.
