I recreated it because I like this build and i was sad thats not on the gallery. So far I notice the following (and it might sound super strange but well... in every bug fix I do find one "How was that a thing" Problem). So here we go: - If you are using round walls your building must be at least be at least 9 tiles away from the end of the lot. - If you put it 8 tiles away from the end of the lot a toilet in the last tile of the house wont work but a toilet right next to it will - Square buildings do not have that problem on this lot - It does not happen in a newcrest lot - It will also happen on other sulani lots but not at 9 tiles (sometimes more, sometimes less) - My hole theory so far is that it happens at kind of the line the sim would start to swim, so if the water is too deep no matter no high the fundament is So James: As your build is 4 tiles away from the border would you mind put it 5 tiles more to the beach and then upload it? I know it does not have the full effect you wanted but I love this build. Edit: In the comments there is a second level solution. Edit2: I made a reddit post about the hole thing after I tested toilets so many times. You can use a basegame fence to show you the part of the lot where round pieces wont work. Edit3: It is not the point the sim start swimming. It is one lower. The community lot at the same neighbourhood does show with the fence that everything should be playable and it is. But the Sim will start swimming earlier. So maybe thats a good lot for the build.
That theory makes sense! It made me think of how GPS behaves on complex highway structures where multiple overpasses are stacked on top of each other. The GPS sort of panics because it doesn't know which layer of the highway cake you're on & therefore, can't give directions. I imagine the Sims proto-logic freaks out because it doesn't know if it should swim or function as if it were on dry land. VERY interesting!
I might add this info too: No matter how far your curved section goes into the deep water the uncurved part (like the middle) does not have that problem. I was asking myself how James kitchen still could work as it was on the 8th tile. But it is in the middle so thats why. I am just hoping for a gallery upload :).
My best guess is it has something to do with the water depth where the glitchy part of the house is. Maybe it'll work if it's placed closer to the sand, in the shallower water
That was my guess too. I think where the “invisible barrier” was is where you need to scoot it forward, and then it might work! I was hoping James would try this to fix it.
Ive simply watched ppl like James and how glitchy round walls are and i refuse to build with them. I may have downloaded houses off the gallery that have round walls but it was mostly me replacing every lot in my sim save lol so i dont even know if they work lol.
Thanks for letting us see a build that didnt go as planned. Sometimes sims players make it look so easy but it's important to remember we all struggle with this Quality Game
The dedication to round walls, I do not have it in me to work with them beyond being a decorative feature. I think you're getting the hang of them! This is one of your better round builds for sure.
Honestly I think that's how they're intended to be used - just for building. They said for a long time that round walls weren't possible in the game the way it's built and people just kept pushing and harassing them (as the sims community does) and so they did their best to put something together that was at least semi-functional so that builders could use them.
Round walls are awful but I took the time to make a 4 storey house that are round walls plus a square basement. My huehuetl drum house it beautiful and stressful.
BUILDING IDEA: James made a Fire Watch Lookout Tower - but it was 5 to 7 years ago, would love to see them make it again. Especially, now that we have way more DLC and no curves.
My guess as to why it didn't work is the way the round walls work. They always show the diagonal attachment point to the inner pieces and since you sliced those off with making them into a bathroom, the outer area of the rounded wall room might have glitched out with having water underneath it, maybe. I have no idea how programming works or if that's even a thing that can happen, but it would be my guess. The round walls are glitchy as is and maybe the water being so deep underneath just added to that?

To me it seems like the deeper water plays a part in it not working. You can see in the video at one point that the half of the house that doesn't work starts directly over the line where the water colour gets darker, indicating deeper water. Maybe terrain you can't walk on (i think the shallow water is is still walkable) and round walls don't mix? Might (strong might) fix it to shuffle the whole thing closer to the beach in shallow water if I'm assuming correctly. Or it just wouldn't fix it because it's the Sims lol.
Don't know about the walls not working, but as an environmentalist, I really enjoy how natural it comes to you to take the sustainability aspect into account, building your builds (even in something as unrealistic as Sims 4 ;)). And just to clarify, dishwashing machines are actually more efficient than humans doing dishes. So for water saving perspective, use a dishwasher and fill it all the way before starting, instead of doing dishes by hand :)
fun fact: IRL a dishwasher is almost always more water efficient than doing the dishes by hand! (if you always fill it up and use it properly. if you live alone and would have to run it half empty to have clean dishes, then yeah, washing by hand might be more efficient)
Round rooms have an issue with the camera placement - you often have to have the camera “inside” the room in order to be able to click there, things that work on the ground level don’t work on elevated levels (like 2cnd floor balconies) unless the camera is inside the room, so not overhead, but zoomed in and within the bounds of the room and it’s possible being over water is the same.
Don't know why it doesn't work but I had trouble with the round deck over water even before round walls were a thing. I couldn't click on the round section of the deck, and my sim had trouble routing to items I had placed there.
those round balconies have always had an inaccessible section unfortunately - anything that isnt a regular square. i remember building with them years ago and had this issue with playtesting as well. as for the inside inaccessible area i have no idea 😅
I love the idea of thinking about the approval process for curved walls in the sims Did someone look it over and think no one would notice the glitches or did they just see it and think “meh it’s fine who cares?” And approve it anyway

So I've had a similar issue with the round walls and the stilt foundations. So likely it was the foundation, you need a "room" for the stilt foundations to work, and your roundhouse ended up without being a room on that balcony. Maybe try putting a solid foundation under the balcony?
I think round walls are just problematic. But I would like to downlod it and place it on the small lot (20x20) next to the beach. You know where you had your banana stand. I mean it's not over water but it works on land at least. Then all your efforts wont go to waste. Looks good!
Yeah I think something about the glitchy-ness of round walls plus the water depth might have something to do with it. I think round walls take up more “space” and I mean… they also weren’t all that perfect upon release 😭 (still love that we have them though). I don’t think they tested it much on lots like these lol. It’s a shame you couldn’t get it working tho! I think it has to do with the water depth? Have you tested building it on the second level and then lowering it down? Would that fix it?
The ladder into the ocean wouldn't work because the water was waaay to shallow. I loved to see you struggle with this build, makes me realise it's never that easy. I might steal the idea of an entirely round self-sufficient home ovo
Try to reconstruct the home WITHOUT making the curved rooms smaller. It might be part of the problem, also, see if you can raise the floor up a level or two to create more height over the water, and if the tile limit goes over 100, reduce the length of the pier. I believe this should Unbreak your build over the water.
Combining curved walls and stilt foundations on a waterfront lot is truly very brave 😄, since each of these on their own can already cause lots of issues.
I got the brilliant idea a while ago to try and make a futuristic city in sci fic vein for fun and most futuristic houses has rounded walls. Needless to say, I know how you feel. I noticed that there were two things that generally helped. One is raise/lower foundation or make walls taller. No idea why, but those things often made the rounded walls work.
I've found that half the issues with round walls comes down to changing your camera angle to not be overhead view of the room. Its incredibly frustrating sometimes.
I probably would have made this a studio and not worried about a wall to separate sleeping and living spaces especially since there’s only room for one sim anyways 👍🏼
I also experienced this same bug too, James. I found that I had to zoom in really close for me to be able to click the floor in the round build for some reason. I recently built a giant multi story nightclub with curved walls & it destroyed me. 🤣 Also even there’s a ceiling & roof, rain still comes inside, because curved walls are broken. EA fix this shit! 😂
After building with curved walls several times I noticed that if you tilt your camera at a certain angle you can select things in a curved room... BUT you cannot select with your camera above it. It is like you have to get "under" the curved ceiling section and then things become selectable..... irritating!!!
My husband decided to build a round house last night and then was like “here, decorate it” 😭😂 it has no windows and the same wallpaper and floors on each level. Towards the end I just kinda gave up and did the bare minimum 😂 I just can’t deal with it. But now I can tell him not to feel bad about it. I still don’t understand why they added round walls in this condition. It’s truly the worst thing in the game.
I'd have a lot of money if I got paid every time I bailed on a house because of a glitch, build mechanics being a pain, etc. Loved the concept! Thanks for showing the whole process 🙂
James patience with curved walls is honestly admirable 🤣

- If you put it 8 tiles away from the end of the lot a toilet in the last tile of the house wont work but a toilet right next to it will
- Square buildings do not have that problem on this lot
- It does not happen in a newcrest lot
- It will also happen on other sulani lots but not at 9 tiles (sometimes more, sometimes less)
- My hole theory so far is that it happens at kind of the line the sim would start to swim, so if the water is too deep no matter no high the fundament is

Now, now you're asking a lot
yes exactly!
B-but how would they milk ignorant fans if they focus on bug-fixing?? 😱 😱
Why would they?`You're gonna buy all the broken expacs anyway.
Why would EA fix bugs when everyone just buys the new pack anyway?
Fans need to stop spending their money until EA sorts their game out
Lesson: learned. Plans to build a round house today: canceled.

Still so confused why the Sims gave us curved walls. Nothing works with them and they’re so glitchy. It was such a waste of resources.
16:04 "no no dont put that there. Telescopes gives me anxiety ever since my Sim died using one LMAO Death by Meteor! Never saw the warning. LOL
Try doing a circular house from the outside but square on the inside, maybe it won't glitch like that
Been loving the build videos keep them coming. Maybe even add some quirky builds to it. And yes more proof to almost never use curved walls lol!
tHe SiMs iS a PeRfEcT GaMe
So when gameplay is buggy, you can always build. Not anymore. 😢
12:57 imagine they come out with a trash can kit 😂😂
I'd have a lot of money if I got paid every time I bailed on a house because of a glitch, build mechanics being a pain, etc. Loved the concept! Thanks for showing the whole process 🙂
blue absolutely HAS to be your favorite color. you always decorate with blue lol
