When you die it gives you full health which can help, but on other levels with check points the clock will not restart until about 2 seconds after you re-spawn so you can gain time by dying right after a checkpoint and then getting further than you were before the clock starts counting again (mostly rocket barrel stages).
@@shugabrush3671 it’s so you don’t have to wait for the enemy. If you don’t plan on taking damage afterwards, why wait for an enemy when you can just damage boost through them.
No, these were all done on my nintendo wii with the nunchuck and wii-remote. I beat only guy I ever saw doing TAS for this game on many of the stages. I spent a lot of time on these runs.
Shuga bush no i think it’s cool that shiny gold is so hard, it makes it so it’s more rewarding to get it, regular gold is for people that want to get good rating without really playing it flawlessly, while shiny gold is when you actually want it to feel like a speedrun, which is great imo
No, they don't matter. All you need for 200% is the KONG letters on each stage and beating all of the K levels as well as mirror mode. Puzzle pieces don't count towards percentage either, they just unlock the art gallery and other extras.
This is just sick.... Well done, dude... I thought about going for all the gold medals after completing 200% right now... but after watching this vid I will consider the game beaten and let it be ^^
Chrizzly Bear It will let you appreciate the level design so much more if you do the speedruns. I'm just one shiny gold away in Tropical Freeze and the journey to get there was pretty awesome (sometimes frustratingly hard though).
@@douglas4934 Just so you know, packattack is much faster than even needed for a shiny gold. You don't quite need that level of optimization. Currently I have 55 shiny done, 12 gold and 6 silver. A hard journey but a rewarding one, I'm excited for TF.
I always liked to shake the nunchuck because then you can more accurately press 'A' to jump when needed. It feels strange at first, but once you get used to it, it's much easier I think. Sometimes when my left arm would get really tired, I'd shake the wii-remote though.
Well, I’ve done that stage, Feather Fiend, and still managed to get a gold on it. The only bosses I can’t do are Mangoruby Run and Tiki Tong Terror. The reasons are that Mangoruby Run forces you to have ONE MINUTE TO GET A GOLD! And for Tiki Tong...the rocket barrel and the actual fight.
@@nostalgiaking2024 I mean, with Tiki Tong, you just have to seize every opportunity to jump on his hands (that also means when he does that swipe attack or the short hand stomp, you gotta stay on the sides/be fast on that one). For the head, you have to position yourself directly under him so you won't lose time because of him moving to you. Now, the next parts are RNG. Sometimes he attacks a second time (good RNG), sometimes he does a fly-by (bad RNG) or sometimes he does the Fire Eye Attack TWICE (worst RNG). But even with the worst RNG, it's really easy to get the Shiny Gold Medal! And fuck Mangoruby Run, that's just plain unfair

Read the description. I agree with the waggle controls. It's much harder to get the rolling down on the 3DS. Plus, the hitbox is different too, which doesn't help
@@DinnerForkTongue he means that instead of giving you the option of reloading the timer from the beggining, it just keeps going. Thus, you have to watch the death screen AND the loading screen, which gets very tedious after a while.
@@undergalaxy775 The thing is, most of the time you're able to start the level over before dying(if you're falling into a bottomless pit). So, most of the time it doesn't change that much compare to Tropical freeze, but the few times it does, it really pisses you off.
I'm not a competitive speed runner but I decided to play the game again and your video helped me get all the shiny gold medals, I got close to beating some of your times, and I did manage to beat one which was Longshot Launch but by only 00.03 seconds (49.97). I wish I recorded it.
This is insane, you've inspired me to go back to this game and try and get the rest of the shiny golds 8-B can do one though, that time attack is ridiculous. Hours of attempts hoping the boss won't do any of those stupid fire attacks, meaning you can't even get the regular gold
Tiki Tong is pure bullshit luck. Back when I made it, more than two years ago(way before I decided I wanted to get every shiny), I spent about one hour where I was unable to get even a bronze medal, then suddendly I had the best pattern ever and got one of my first shiny gold medals in the game.
Just watching this gives me an anxiety attack. I'm currently playing it on the 3DS and was proud to get a few Golds. Once I heard there were Shiny Golds I was tempted to just stop trying all together. I couldn't imagine using the waggle controls for most of this game, but now I'm curious to try it.
Breanne Neal It's not a glitch. I just managed to continue playing while off screen. I guess it's a bit glitchy that the camera doesn't follow DK right away. It's a really small 2 or 3 frame window to make the correct jumps.
Tbh, getting shiny gold on Feathered Fiend is more based on luck rather than skill (although skill is still required) since you can't decide on when you want to hit him. The game decides for you when you can and can't
Time attack is the most difficult to play in this game for me. I already finished all levels, got all puzzle pieces and KONG letters, including the mirror mode and finish mirror mode aswell, and by the way, I'm playing this in Original mode. I really wish I was that great in time attack, so that I can complete all the badges in my game [puzzle piece, mirror mode KONG, mirror mode, and time attack(the one I don't have)].

18 shiny gold medal to go for me! I'm missing 1-B, 2-1, 2-7, 2-K, 3-2, 3-5, 4-K, 5-4(ahh!), 5-K, 6-1, 6-B, 7-5, 7-6, 8-1, 8-4(this is embarassing), 8-7, 8-K, Golden temple. 6 of them are still silver medals. So more than 75% done. Edit one day after:16 to go.

In 5-3 Flutter Flyaway, shouldn't you jump before reaching the ends of the platforms so that you maintain the extra momentum? Or is that mechanic exclusive to Tropical Freeze?
Do you mean that the fact that jumping as early as possible means you spend less time rolling, which is slower? That's in DKCR too, but still, sometimes you won't make it unless you jump a bit later, and that seems to be the case in this level, for the most part.
Are you going to try to make these runs again? After almost 9 years the best times have been achieved by Leah or JXD, or minusonetwelfth a little, etc. You held these world records for a while and you still hold 3-B and a couple of others were only tied.
Pack has long since left the game behind, obviously he's capable of taking some of them back with the new strat improvements but judging by the description he's quit DKCR for good. Also worth noting that getting the vast majority of the records back is borderline impossible with today's standards, especially since JXD has put in a huge shift recently and he's showing no signs of stopping...

I got my copy of Returns for 3ds and after hearing this i am MUCH more reliefed since my d-pad is not very responsible

Time attack is the most difficult to play in this game for me. I already finished all levels, got all puzzle pieces and KONG letters, including the mirror mode and finish mirror mode aswell, and by the way, I'm playing this in Original mode. I really wish I was that great in time attack, so that I can complete all the badges in my game [puzzle piece, mirror mode KONG, mirror mode, and time attack(the one I don't have)].

18 shiny gold medal to go for me! I'm missing 1-B, 2-1, 2-7, 2-K, 3-2, 3-5, 4-K, 5-4(ahh!), 5-K, 6-1, 6-B, 7-5, 7-6, 8-1, 8-4(this is embarassing), 8-7, 8-K, Golden temple. 6 of them are still silver medals.

In 5-3 Flutter Flyaway, shouldn't you jump before reaching the ends of the platforms so that you maintain the extra momentum? Or is that mechanic exclusive to Tropical Freeze?
Do you mean that the fact that jumping as early as possible means you spend less time rolling, which is slower? That's in DKCR too, but still, sometimes you won't make it unless you jump a bit later, and that seems to be the case in this level, for the most part.
Are you going to try to make these runs again? After almost 9 years the best times have been achieved by Leah or JXD, or minusonetwelfth a little, etc. You held these world records for a while and you still hold 3-B and a couple of others were only tied.
Pack has long since left the game behind, obviously he's capable of taking some of them back with the new strat improvements but judging by the description he's quit DKCR for good. Also worth noting that getting the vast majority of the records back is borderline impossible with today's standards, especially since JXD has put in a huge shift recently and he's showing no signs of stopping...
